I've watched the fight like a dozen times at this point

He didnt really gas until the 7th

Up until then it was close. Even the 4th,5th and 6th were close, some which could be argued for McGregor.

The 7th was the first real dominant round of the bunch in Floyd's favour.

Conor got a bit of a second wind in the 8th and again we ended up with another close round.

Not sure if people just dont remember the fight that well but the common narrative I've seen here is that Conor looked good for 2 rounds or something then Floyd started to dominate.

But that actually isnt true.

It was fairly competitive throughout, up until Conor started to truly gas out.

I'd suggest everyone to go back and watch it a few times.

Dude I literally watched that fight 13 times now. You see what you want I guess. I'm too tired to debate this and honestly I doubt it'll make a difference.

Floyd used some of his old pretty boy tricks. It worked really well. Conor had more success than anyone expected. Both made money

Perhaps but they were still competitive rounds.

For me that wasnt really a factor. I just score rounds as I see it.

There's just this idea that after the first portion of the fight, Floyd just took over and dominated


Even I believed this until I went back and watched it a few times. Once or twice stoned just to see if theres anything I was missing as well.. lol

But up until Conor really gassed in the 9th, he was more than holding his own.

You could hear the surprise amongst the commentators / sugar ray Leonard as well.

At the same time, it needs to be said that Floyd just didnt look good. His feet weren't there, speed, reflexes, timing, everything was off and he looked every minute of 40.

Emotions meaning

People are allowing themselves to be heavily influenced by their dislike of a person.

Not all but many.

Many have had a picture of McGregor painted in their heads. To give him the same credit Atlas and other fighters, boxing legends have would be to admit on some level that they've been wrong this entire time and that he's more talented than they gave him credit for.

It's a lot easier to double down and do the opposite, attack credibility and cherry pick whatever narrative portrays him worse.

That confirmation bias is deeply embedded, as you can see by the level of hatred on this forum. Reinforced even further by the hive mind / group think. It's not a paradigm shit that many are ready for.

You can see a similar sort of thing amongst haters of a wide variety of public figures, celebrities, athletes. Conor just happens to be the most glaring in the MMA world.

Well he tried, he tried to not get hit and he did cop a decent uppercut. Was never really in doubt, I feel Conor was better than he thought though, but he did correctly judge his gas tank (or lack thereof).

I don't think I am reading too much into it. There really isn't much to read into. Atlas said two very simple things and that is Floyd was out of his prime and that based on Floyds style, it's not his game to be on the offense and just attack like he did in the later part of the fight. And that is why Conor made it to round 10.

Floyd does usually take a few rounds to feel his opponents out, pretty much most successful boxers do and then open up. But Conor proved to be a bit more of a challenge in that aspect than most expected and that is why it took Floyd 10 rounds to get it done. So it's not that he carried him, it's more that he waited till the risk was limited and then pressed the fight the last few rounds till the finish came once he had the fight figured out. That's not carrying an opponent, it's just a strategic win.
