I own stock in Cisco and realized my router is made by them and it is also out of date. I asked one guy and he said Cisco sucks. Shit company he said. lol. I don't take this comment seriously so I am asking around. I don't know the tech industry. So 2 questions:

1. What specific router should I get? I notice Netgear and Asus get good reviews. As does Cisco.

2. How good of a company is Cisco in general?

Thanks.

Dunno, but I'd suggest reading the recent articles re: FBI/CIA advising people to reset their routers due to some hacking where the related web domain was seized by the good guys rendering the old hack useless.

I have an Asus. Does the job. But I'm nowhere near tech savvy enough to offer real advice.

I'm an IOS guy and use Apple everything. The Router in the Airport Extreme is not the greatest, but it's not bad and I love how it integrates with all my Apple products.

Netgear night hawk is pretty much the best bang for your buck.

I guess what I am also asking is whether Cisco is keeping up with the times. I know they are into cloud and other things. Made many acquisitions over the years. I don't have a feel on the tech industry though to know if it is a dinosaur or its status in future.

There are much better stocks to own than Cisco. Trust me. I learned my lesson.

Netgear has always worked well for me. Had mine for about 5 years

Most folks don’t realiz how much difference a router makes. I have the google one and it’s great

Broadcom chips that have been hacked. I have the 7000 and have seen a man in the middle attack many times. I've been buying netgear stuff for many years but they are on the hack list.

Its a router. it either works or it doesn't. If one router is rated at 100 mbps and another is rated at 100 mbps and they both work, there is no difference.

Where is this hack list? I have another router I can use but I'm curious to see if it's been hacked too.

I have used both Netgear and Cisco. Both companies make great routers. I am currently using a Cisco router. It's very reliable. That being said, when it's time for an upgrade, I will most likely go back to Netgear.

I use MAC address filtering for added security and I must say that the Netgear interface gives you greater control and more options. The Cisco interface is not nearly as good. It's so limited compared to Netgear. That's my only gripe. In terms of hardware, both are great.

The higher the number, the better. You're welcome.

Not really. If they're cheap, they degrade with time and the throughput decreases. I've learned my lesson and always buy quality routers now.
