Tank Abbott

He waz a really straight up nice guy when I met him at UFC 17.

We were driving around the hotel & surrounding area of teh event when we saw him walking. We hollered his name & hooted & hollered... & he waved us down for a ride to teh hotel. Of coarse we pulled over. He waz "wider" than expected... took oop my whole back seat. He insisted my friend stay up front while he got in back. We talked to him the whole time & he waz a very cool & down to earth guy, thanked us for teh ride & went on his way.
That’s super interesting.

Because I have not heard one Tank interview or attempt to hear it and not walked away thinking what a dickhead.

Someone in here commented so he’s a dick so what? Well here’s the thing, I believe a scale for asshole exists and some dudes in this genre do this shtick and it’s playful or not meaningful….especially when it involves two individuals about to face eachother….thats wolf ticket shit……then it gets progesively worse from there. I think David fits in the upper echelon….hes top shelf.

Example:
Tank on the Jaxxon podcast and forgive me for not timestamping this, But Tank starts going into it and they’re laughing playfully because Tito’s a friend. But the laughing fades when it becomes clear he’s still angry or sick about Tito LOL. Literally after 10min non stop roast Jaxxon host has to ask the most nonrelevsnt question to change the subject. Tank isn’t just a dick. He’s a mean dick

Funny stuff.

I think he definitely hammed it oop for teh camera. He has that cocky "don't give a fook" side of him too, but that's not all he is.

As far as having bad energy about Tito... even teh best of us could get upset talking about someone who did us wrong.

I grew up a redneck, before outgrowing the stereotype somewhat. I grew up with bikerz as well. I'm also a lifetime iron-worker. Point being, that I've regularly hung out wit teh roughest toughest folks most of my life. I'd say almost all of them have a sweet center & are some of teh most loyal friendz a guy could ask for. That said, they can also be teh worse enemy a guy could have if you cross them. I think that's what you're seeing with Tank. He waz a perfect gentleman with us & in that brief car ride, I found him very accessable, layed back, & pleasant to talk to.

Nice bra. Appreciated all of that

he's a strickland / el cucuy type, not just pretending to be unhinged but the real deal. however he's more intelligent than a lot of people would know.

He is a complicated character, he seems a little insecure and arrogant to me, always bragging and always had a lot of excuses if he lost, always claimed new fighters aren't "real fighters", always had these skeptical stories, he told some story on JRE about how he knocked out a highly decorated & famous pro boxer sparring (Wouldn't drop the name) from the first punch he threw when he just started boxing, he started MMA rather late so hard to say, he was definitely a top fighter in the early days of MMA but he didn't take fighting very seriously and with his poor career comeback he ended up being more of a solid club fighter than a tough journeyman.

That said, I'm still a fan and always rooted for him, I think he deserves to be in the HoF for being the first real personality in MMA, he set the blueprint for MMA fighters becoming stars.

Oh shit that’s right!
By his own admission, Most wouldn’t know Tank was a very decent student in school. think he said he was B-B+ student in highschool to college

That was another interview I couldn’t do the whole thing

he also wrote a book or two, from what i heard.

In the

I find talking shit about people generally toxic. I don’t indulge (if u can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all)

What’s unique about Abbott is that he seems to be always talking shit about others. I actually cut out of the above interview early just didn’t care for it

Below is a bear. They frolick in large numbers in the 9th and Harrison area of SF. If you’ve seen them it’s impactful. It’s not that I fantasize about anyone’s sex life. Tank immediately hit me as a bear that’s all
Sure, but wild, completely uninformed and weird speculation about Abbot's sexuality isn't "indulging in talking shit."

Tito acts like a heel in a very public, openly obnoxious way. That's not randomly talking shit about someone out of nowhere.

WTF.

Tank was a pioneer. First guy to have legit wrestling and boxing experience. First guy to wear gloves. First guy to almost toss a dude over the cage. First guy to use the fence as a weapon.

I think he was the first guy to crack cabbage's iron chin too, and this was after he was past his prime.

I also love the fact that when his rematch with ferrozo had venue problems, he just says fuck it, let's fight in the back yard!

Tank was awesome.

Tank Abbott was, in essence, a relic of a different era—a raw, unrefined heavyweight with a penchant for delivering concussive force. The crowd adored him, drawn to his unfiltered aggression and brawler’s spirit. Had he committed himself more rigorously to his training, one could speculate that his career might have yielded greater success. After all, beneath the surface, he possessed legitimate wrestling credentials. If there is any true lament to be made, it is that a fight between him and Ken Shamrock never materialized.

I said so what. I'm not going to move in with the guy, I'm not co-signing on a loan for him, he's not marrying my daughter. He's not my hero I liked watching him fight way back in the day.

Tank had an account and posted on Sherdog years ago. I remember his posts being vaguely cryptic with a penchant for having 5 swearing words each sentence and full of spelling errors.

The dude was a legend and one of the OG and face of the early UFC
