Tank Abbott Fans, get in here!

Izzy and Paulo look way heavier in this gif

I'm not a fan of Tank at all but I'm in here anyways.

For the record, he was strong, his wrestling sucked, his punching power was undeniable, his cardio varied wildly but was generally trash, he was slow, his chin was decent but unremarkable, and his submission grappling was weak. He threw punches like a grizzly throws his paws around. He beat no one of any consequence and his biggest claims to fame and legitimacy is giving Oleg a long fight and Don Frye a tough 45 seconds. He gave us some great-looking KO's against limited fighters but always came up well short when put in there with good fighters, never mind great.

He was fun but in no way, shape, or form did he have it all. Not even close.

I forgot about Ferrozo! That was a fun lil mini fued!

He had some great quotes back in the day

“I fought tougher cops at the bar” after making Steve Jenum tap, to grinding him into the cage while smiling at the camera

“I just wanted to tickle his brain a little bit” after a brutal KO of Matua

Jeff Blatnikk on a quote from tank “He is the barmans fighter, he wants those guys to have someone to cheer”

“I felt like I just got molested buy Freddy Mercury” after his fight with Dan Severn

And the list goes on, no doubt his record was far from the best but he did fight a lot of the top guys back then, I always looked forward to watching him fight, much respect

It’s been forever since I watched the ultimate tank DVD but I think I recall him saying he fought for free at some of the earlier fights back then, what a legend

Tank had charisma and did not need the Colby /Chael scripted bs.

I would rather listen to Tank ordering a beer than a full interview with Stipe.

And he hustled Dubb yah Cee Dubb Yah for nearly a Millie! Sauce would be the fine folks at Bleacher Report.

"Right at the top of WCW's contract database, there's one name and one number that outlines everything wrong with the organisation in 2000.

Ex-UFC bad ass and all-round MMA wrecking machine Tank Abbott was someone Vince Russo had high hopes for when the gruff fighter traded martial arts for pro wrestling in 1999. That's fine, because Abbott had a legit reputation and had gained some popularity in UFC. Giving him a contract worth $850,000? That wasn't fine.

WCW did it anyway, then proceeded to do precisely nothing besides book Tank in silly gimmick matches. The one he had against fellow martial artist turned wrestling flop Jerry Flynn at Souled Out 2000 summed it up. Fans, rightly, didn't want to see "shoot fights" on their wrestling pay-per-views.

Things reached a new low when $850k Tank became a super fan of phoney boy band 3 Count, then started a new dancing gimmick. As preposterous as it sounds, WCW were paying this man almost $1m to goof around and ruin his credibility."

Submission defense? Fight IQ? He had it all? He was a brawler, entertaining to watch but definitely not more than that.

Oh and they classified him as a "pit fighter"

<YeahOKJen>

one of the most frequently misused words in the English language. literally.
Yeah and admittedly I do it too, but that one was so egregious I couldn't ignore it. That's a big statement to say he's "literally a killer."

Mediocre fighter wit terrible attitude, a disgrace as human being and very limited as fighter

for sure he wasn't even near the skills set of a Cormier or Stipe... but he deserves props for carrying the Sports, along with Tito and K.Shamrock, in the early days! And most of the population would call us disgrace of humans as well for even being fans of MMA for what it's worth!!

No matter how you look at it, Tank Abbott is an absolute LEGEND.

Tank had it all(except maybe elite cardio) back in the day:

Elite Power
Wrestling
Granite Chin
Aggressive Style
Submission Defense
Bada*s Persona

The man does not get enough credit as a legend but Tank Abbot was literally a killer.

Watching the Greg Hardys and Derrick Lewis’s these days lets you know that HW has not evolved at all and possibly devolved.

Tank is a man to be appreciated by all the NON-sissy fans that are all too uncommon these days.

He’s the reason I fell in love with mma!

850K...was NOTHING for WCW! Hogan was making about a Mill a month during his NWO run... and Bret Hart was making 3.5 Mil!, with Hall & Nash being in the same vicinity! Wrestling was Ted Turner's passion, so WCW executives knew they had unlimited access to Good Ol Billionaire Ted's Checkbook... and they dams sure abused it!
