Tallison just sh*t the bed

The heavyweight division is so thin the UFC are constantly rushing fighters.

They had to sack Jairzinho for repelling too many prospects.

What? Too many? 1??? He beat Gaziev. Tuivasa wasn't a prospect, by the time he fought him Tai had already been around the title picture and was a veteran? Daukaus? That guy was fucking shit, he was never a prospect to anyone with eyes. Big Boi was cut because he was mostly incredibly boring to watch.

People keep talking about the cage grab, but correct me if I'm wrong, aren't they two separate issues. He cheated by pulling himself up, but the only way to address that would be to stop the action and issue a warning or take a point, that would be bad for Derrick since he's going for the finish, him calling off the fight(which was bad cause the guy was fine) shouldn't be related to the fence grab.

I would prefer if ref took 2 points, separate and let continue. There would be more fireworks.

Lewis would probably come on top either way. But spectaors would be highly rewarded.

The fence grab is seperate yes. It has no bearing on the justified stoppage after 20 or so unanswered punches from the ufc ko king. But as Lewis says, it was a hoe ass move that makes Allison look even worse.

I would still question the fact that he's unable to intelligently and LEGALLY defend himself.

But yeah, at first I thought fuck him, but it's probably a bad stoppage.

I haven't really seen it discussed much and here seems as good a place as any: Tallison really shit the bed last night.

Everyone is so focused on the horrible ending to the fight that no one is talking about how bad Tallison was in the sequence leading up the the end of the fight:

1) Tallison threw a punch at the side of Lewis's face with his thumb sticking way out, grazing the side of Lewis's head and poking him hard in the eye with the thumb;
2) The ref, seeing the fist, assumed Lewis was hit in the eye with the fist and not the extended thumb and so failed to pause the fight;
3) Tallison shambled around doing not much and certainly not attacking as Lewis grabbed his eye several times; and
4) When a temporarily blinded Lewis started throwing wildly right in front of Teixeira because he didn't really have any other options, Teixeira:
  • firmly planted his feet,
  • stood straight, chin held up high,
  • dropped his guard,
  • pawed a soft, ineffective jab, and
  • got clocked right on the chin.
Talk about shitting the bed!

He worked his way up by cheating and pulling himself up the fence. fuck him
Agreed. And he should have had a point deducted. But Herzog panicked and stopped the fight instead. He's a good ref, but this was a terrible blunder.

Good stoppage. If you need to grab the cage to get up. You don’t deserve to go on.

Nah that's just a garbage take. The fight shouldn't be stopped unless he can't continue. He was completely lucid. If he used the cage to stand up, that's a foul or a restart, not an automatic TKO.

Except that the fighter he was throwing punches at wasn't hurt enough to stop the fight. The amount of punches he throws does not matter. The amount of KOs he has in his career do not matter. What matters is whether the ref has to stop the fight because one fighter cannot continue or not, and Tallison was fine to continue. Thus a bad stoppage.
