Name: Martin
Height: 5'10
Weight: 160 lbs
Training Background: Played basketball all through high school and then at the JUCO level. When I say "played," I mean that I sat the bench for the most part. Lifted for basketball, and was lucky enough to get solid instruction on olympic lifting from the football strength coach.
After college, began lifting heavy after finding the SnP. A 2-year stretch of pulls, overhead squats and farmers walks began and ended.
I had trained a bit of boxing back in the day. I wasnt very good, but I would work out, spar and competed in a single smoker that I had won. After lifting for a few years, I decided to get back into boxing and take it more seriously. Pissed about for a few months at an LA Boxing Gym, which was a waste of time. Finally found a more gritty and legit boxing club in San Francisco, and began training. Competed in another smoker and had a few fights canceled before making my debut about 6 months after joining. Won that one. Been training pretty hard and consistently for about 18 months now, and have had 4 fights. Been fortunate enough to spar some good pros and accomplished amateurs, and have become fairly competent with the hands.
Goals for 2010: Want to become more well-rounded as a fighter by beginning training in a grappling sport and muay thai kickboxing. Will still be training and possibly competing in amateur boxing, but will look to become competent at my new sports. Will be adding more and more strength and conditioning into the mix, mostly with lunch-break sessions at ye olde 24 hour fitness. I dont see a reason why I couldnt enter a few BJJ or no-gi grappling tournaments in 2010, and possibly get an amateur MT fight. If I can get 1-2 boxing matches in as well, I will consider it a success.
