Takedowns against shorter guys

There's a guy who refuses to take a fall. His rationale is "i'm trying to get better". One time I threw him with a sumi gaeshi and he twisted and contorted all the way down, he jumps up and said "you gotta finish the throw". I said "F you, i'm not sparring with you anymore. You're either gonna hurt yourself or get me hurt". And that was that. I always take the fall. It's randori, check your ego.

I am lucky to not have some of those where I train, I saw it more in BJJ thoug at the moment of tapping but I always see it as randori, specially against thw supplex / tani otoshi variations..

Not giving out the ippon is a crucial part of competitive judo, if you always take a fall because you are looking at a long term hobby, kudos for you, but in competitive judo you need to take those faceplants to avoid the ippon.

Well, if you compete for fun like many in judo and bjj I think is ok, if you are an Olympian of course no, I have seen guys getting his arm broken a la Yoshida because they didn

randori isn't shaia. in a tourney? sure i'll do everything i can to avoid the ippon. and this guy doesn't even compete! i've completed and placed. that's like engaging in kumi kata during uchikomis.

Not even close to the same thing.

You compete like you train, i have seen elite athletes do randori and none of them will take a fall. You cant really make a consciouss effort to try and escape a fall, you need it drilled into your head and that requires you to defend it in randori. You dont simply take falls and expect it to be different in shiai

If he was trying to not take a fall during uchikomi you would have a point,

I'm in Wrestling so I don't know if this applies to you. I either hip toss, ankle pick, body lock trip, outside power double. Outside power doubles are decent on shorter guys, taller guys can see that shit coming from miles. If he sprawls catch him coming into your arm than ankle pick off that.
