...when you went to see the lead act.

I had free tickets down the road from here to see Three Days Grace, Pop Evil were supporting them and all I knew of them were a couple of tracks so I just thought whatever, it's free, it'll be a nice Friday night out. They KILLED it in comparison. I've ended up a bit of a Pop Evil fan since but Three Days Grace while I liked themish I've gone right off.

Iron Lung made Nausea
look/sound like Abba when
I saw them last year

I've been to so few concerts. I've never seen an opener outshine a lead. However when I went to see Death Cab For Cutie the opener was The Head and the Heart, and they were quite good.

When I went to see NIN the opener was Queens of The Stone Age. This is still the highlight of my existence to date, both bands were freaking amazing.

I'm a NIN worshipper but I 've ended up such a QoSTA fan too. That must've been a wonderful gig.

Life long Trent fan but I've only seen him twice :'( Jane's Addiction and Soundgarden for me as supports. Woe is me with Cornell.

I looooove NIN but I like Queens as well. They're both just amazing live, and Trent came out and performed with Queens for part of their set! That man is a goddamn amazing live performer. He just exudes this intense charisma. So talented, only got to see them once but I'm damn glad I got to go. Trent Reznor is a genius, so underrated.

I think he's God. I wouldn't say underrated at all considering his Oscar. He's Trent. That's it, he's set the benchmark for anyone who aspires to make music, forever.I won't dwell on it but him and Bowie together was just ... I can't find the words.

A NIN and Depeche Mode colab would be my all, you could shoot me off into outerspace and I'd die a happy woman.

He gets credit, but I've always felt only his fans give him credit as a legend of music. I mean Pretty Hate Machine came out in fucking 1989. How far ahead of its time is that?! He shaped an entire genre of music, he's a legend, a prodigy, and a god for sure. One of the best musicians ever.

I need to address "underrated". Amongst his peers and the real fans, he's highly revered as an artist. Anyone underrating him needs to go and read a book and learn that it's not all about chords and vocal runs.

You just summed up what I just posted in a far more intelligent manner.

I went to his house ! Alright, I saw it from the outside, I was on a Ghost walking tour of New Orleans and the woman said "and there's Trent Reznor's house, he has the plinth from the Charles Manson murders" in there. I just wanted to go and lick his house like it was a donut. This was in 2002 before Hand That Feeds, my husband just guffawed and in company I wasn't going to go and ring the doorbell like I wanted to :(

I remember going to see Rage Against the Machine years ago and they were fun but Shihad blew them off the stage.

Nice, I saw that tour when it came to Auckland a couple of years ago. Brody Dalle's band opened too. Awesome show.

Saw Queens play the Big Day Out years and years ago too, when Nick was still with them. Their sound crapped out on the big stage so they ended up doing their set on one of the smaller stages as basically the closing act. They kicked all the ass of course. Foo Fighters were the headliners but they didn't even come close to QOTSA's magnificence.

Korn opening for KMFDM. No one knew who Korn was at the time. Not really a fan anymore, but fuck, they KILLED it. The energy was out of control.

The best example I remember was Ned's Atomic Dustbin. They made quite a few popular bands look mediocre.

Mendeed supporting Avenged Sevenfold in 2005.

Hatebreed and Mastodon supporting Slipknot in 2004. Slayer were good but i cant remember if it was co headline or they were main support on that tour.

Coheed and Cambria made everyone they opened for their bitch every time i saw them.

Korn for Nickelback. Yep, that's right. Labatt Blue Hometown Bash in London, Ontario, Canada 2003. Google it. Was outdoor in the parking lot of a 9,000-10,000 seat arena.

5 bands, hardly anything in common (other than 3 of the 5 acts being Canadian).

Lineup was Three Days Grace, American Hi-Fi, Simple Plan, Korn then headlining was Nickelback

Nickelback wasn't terrible (performance wise) if that's your thing (not mine), but it was just such a strange lineup. Half the crowd left after Korn.

Bottom picture was from concert.

I went to Ozzfest 2006 in Toronto. System of a Down was headlining and they killed it, Disturbed was right before them and they killed it to, so they didn't really trounce them, but they put on an equally good performance. There was also Hatebreed and A7X. I'm pretty sure there was a 5th band but I can't remember exactly who. I want to say Lacuna Coil but I was pretty shitfaced the whole time. The Canadian lineup was pretty thin compared to the number of bands on the US dates, but if I remember 2006 was a pretty down year for Ozzfest in general.

I've been to a ton of other concerts, and there weren't really any other standout times that I can think of where an opener completely ran over the headliner.

Maybe Egdefest 2011 also in Toronto. A Perfect Circle were up before Rise Against, but Rise Against put on a great show too, just depends on what you're into more. Lots of other good bands were there too (Tokyo Police Club, Sheepdogs, Arkells).

Came here to say Queens of the Stone Age as well. I went to a Red Hot Chili Peppers show in 2003, Queens of the Stone Age opened, even though the drugs kicked in more for the headliner, the opener blew them away in my mind.

Of course, since then the Red Hot Chili Peppers have become a big joke among people in my demographic, but they were pretty big back then, as a teenager they were appealing.

Bleeding Through took all of the wind out of an AFI concert I went to 13 years ago.
