If you have seen SUPERMAN (2025), how would you rate it?

It does seem like it has a lot crammed into it. But if she is interviewing him, my guess is that it will be a series of short stories. Like she asks him about one thing and then a different thing and the stories kind of string together. Could be fun.

100% I am saying this is “interview with the Superman” based on the trailers. A movie that is a bunch of short stories will be useful to intro different parts of Gunnverse DCU without it getting too bogged down.

Unless it gets super dooper bogged down in that format which will suck giant bags of monkey balls

I just wanna see if my "interview with the superman" theory is correct. Hoping to see it this weekend. Loved the review. I grew up reading Superman and had boxes of his comics as a kid.

This movie has a very straightforward, linear narrative. I don't think there even was a flashback moment. It's better you know of this now before you watch the movie and have built up a lot of expectations and be massively disappointed when it doesn't come true.

Ok neat! Thanks

James Gunn has went on record saying he's bored with "origin" stories. We all know Superman came from krypton as a baby and crashed into earth, same goes with bruce wayne's parents getting killed in the alley and peter parker being bit by a radioactive spider.

Marvel Studios was the first one to forego origin stories if the movie was a reboot. They did it first with The Incredible Hulk, opting to put a short new origin recap in the opening title sequence. When they got to make Spider-Man: Homecoming, they never bothered to show Peter's origin story. The upcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps will also brush off how they got their powers (I think). I believe Gunn learned what Marvel Studios did during his tenure there and saw the validity of avoiding repetitive origin stories.

I remember groaning at watching Bruce's parent getting killed again in even slower motion in Batman v Superman.

How is it tracking for opening weekend? That's what I'm curious about. Seems like no matter what they do with this character, the returns are always mild.

It's tracking for minimum $130 million or a high $170+ million for the US opening weekend. It's expected to reach $200+ million for a global start.

I saw a review that incredibly seriously said this movie is confusing for people, because they may not know who superman is or his story. I just can't with some folks.

Marvel and DC Comics have repeatedly employed a renumbering strategy for their long-running series, meaning titles temporarily go back to issue #1 instead of issue #354 for example. It's a move to entice new and old readers to take a look at a long-running series with the publisher's assurance that the new renumbered series will have new adventures and be easier to follow.

It's like what's happening with this Superman reboot. I've noticed within my circle that some of my friends, who have no interest in superhero movies, are going to watch the new Superman due to curiosity and good word of mouth. Same with distant friends and acquaintances, they all said they were going to check the new movie out. I just feel there's some buzz about the film that has piqued the interest of casual moviegoers. I doubt they would even care if this was instead a Man of Steel 2.

Minorly disappointed with the movie. It's a 6.5 for me.

I'll share an observation about James Gunn, he seems to do his best with "orphan" ideas. His best movies are Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and Suicide Squad. I think GOTG was a feeling out move by Marvel. No one except comic book nerds knew who they were, and if it wasn't successful Marvel would have pivoted with another idea to explore cosmic entities at that point. It just happened to be amazing. GOTG 2 was underwhelming, and GOTG 3 sucked.

When Gunn was fired from Marvel, DC hired him because no one knew what to do with the DCEU at that point. They were a mess and he made a great movie in Suicide Squad when no one expected anything good from DC. For this one, he was saddled with a pretty impossible task to both revitalize Superman and jumpstart a new franchise. It works but barely.

As for the movie itself, there were pacing issues. It felt like the movie should have been a six to eight part series you could binge but was cut into two hours. The CGI was not great. And I don't know if it was purposeful or not because that's how comic book villains are but Lex Luthor kept providing exposition and leaving Superman to conundrums he could easily escape. Lex Luthor's bimbo girlfriend was surprisingly the highlight of the movie for me even if her "character arc" doesn't make any sense.

Was a new Superman movie really what we needed? Haven"t they been done to death?
There have been 2 true Superman movies in the past almost 20 years (Superman Returns/MoS), 3 if you count this one. There have been about 8 Spiderman movies made in the same span of time.

It's not an origin story, nor was Superman Returns. MoS was the only origin story. So have they been done to death? No...not really.

Nevermind the quantity. What does this one add? What can I look forward to?

You get a story that hasn't been explored within the world of Superman with characters you haven't seen, at least on the big screen. He faces adversity he's not used to. So again, to your question of "hasn't this been done to death...." it hasn't, at least not to me. But if you clearly define "done to death" maybe I can clarify.

Love to hear this. IMO some of the worst Marvel movies are the origin story. I didn't like the first Thor and I fell asleep during the first Captain America movie both times I watched it. Iron man was good though I'll give them that.

I really like the new actor. There's something in his eyes the previous ones lacked.
