This almost got me to go to the theater. I hadn't been since pre-pandemic and the semi-local Regal closed a year or two ago. The nearest theater is now a 90 minute round trip and when I checked prices for Saturday it was $13 for a regular matinee, $18.50 for IMAX. So $30-40 with concessions for one dude.

...no wonder theaters are dying. A year from now I can buy the 4k bluray for less than that and watch it in my own home, on my own time, and still have some awesome stove top popcorn. Hope this kills it at the box office; I will not be contributing.

Hearing people that seen it its not great. Superman returns level. I plan to see anyway sunday but my optimism is waned a bit.

I would guess its the kind of thing that really absolutely works for some people and not others. Like, it seems as if Gunn really has brought the actual comic to life, as opposed to adapting it to a theater experience. For some people that's all theyve wanted for years, and for others it might be, just like the superman comic, a bit too much like a comic book.

That's exactly what I've been seeing in reviews. Well put, Bob.

Sorry dude but there’s a price to pay for living in the middle of nowhere. That’s an insane travel time for the absurd amount of theaters there are in this country. Also just go there on a full belly, no need to buy snacks. I don’t watch many movies these days but I usually end up spending 15 dollars total.

There's a spot nearby that let's you order burgers, other hot foods, and beer. It's my go to. It's where I'll see this.

Believe it or not, I'm actually not in the middle of nowhere -- the theater that closed was in our state capital. It's actually kinda absurd that it wasn't bought by another chain when Regal went into bankruptcy. It ended up getting bought by a developer and they've been wanting to knock it down and build apartments.

For those that are planning to watch this in theaters:

Going in blank is the wrong mentality to go in. Please read this post. Set your expectations correctly. Forewarned is forearmed as the saying goes. This is not an origin movie. The film immediately hits the ground running in the opening. Treat this as a sequel where Superman is already three years active, where supporting characters are already established and new characters pop in constantly. This is a James Gunn movie, so don't expect a super serious tone like Man of Steel or Superman Returns.

Thanks for the Heads up on this. I got the feeling it definitely wasn't an Origin and he get snippets of some of his past but he's already Superman at this point in the Prime of facing challenges

I just wanna see if my "interview with the superman" theory is correct. Hoping to see it this weekend. Loved the review. I grew up reading Superman and had boxes of his comics as a kid.

Probably not for me because of a director.

Super... 1/10
GotG... 1/10 (cried at the end of the movie because of how outstandingly bad it was and couldn't believe what i was watching)
GotG 2... (friend convinced me to watch it... was massacred by it)

Decided to never watch a Gunn movie again... i like Superman himself, but i think i must not watch this.

I'm so fed up with all these comic book movies. I heard they finally stopped making profits.

Was a new Superman movie really what we needed? Haven"t they been done to death?
