SUMO - 2024 Nagoya Basho (July 14th - July 28th)

Asanoyama might be done. people are injuring themselves left and right this basho.

Wakatakakage looking solid after 4 days, it'll be interesting to see his level again as he moves up the ranks.

Asanoyama unfortunately gets folded like a lawn chair. I didn't think his movement was looking great anyway but now...

Who told Shodai to put in a vintage performance before week 2?

Glad Tamawashi won, but it's sad to see how poorly Kinbozan fights these days. No confidence at all, just goes out and flops around until he loses. Sad.

For once Kirishima vs Daieisho doesn't end with Daieisho faceplanting.

Oh boy. Takakeisho with the power slap nearly KOing Tobizaru, but somehow ends up losing from yet another winning position just like yesterday. Tobi looked unwell after that one.

Hoshoryu gets obliterated by Gonoyama, and walks off holding his wrist and forearm

Kotozakura doing his best to bring a bit of dignity to the word Ozeki.

Terunofuji looking better and better each day, will his knees hold up?

4 days in and is Terunofuji the only one currently undefeated? This man whose entire body is held together by the hopes and dreams of the YDC.

Tomorrow's matches - https://www.sumo.or.jp/EnHonbashoMain/torikumi/1/5/

Terunofuji vs Gonoyama -

Terunofuji is 1-0 vs Gonoyama, beating him in January this year.

Waka Bro vs Hoshoryu -

Hoshoryu holds a record of 11-3 vs Waka Bro, winning the past 5 meetings.

Kirishima vs Onosato -

Onosato beat Kirishima in their 1st meeting last basho.

Kotoshoho vs Oshoma -

These two are 1-1 vs each other, and somebody moves to 4-1 with a win tomorrow.

Ichiyamamoto vs Tamawashi -

Another match with the winner going 4-1, Tamawashi leads the series 3-2 but Ichiyamamoto has won the past 2 meetings.

Wakatakakage vs Churanoumi -

Yet another match with the winner going 4-1, Wakatakakage leads 3-1 in the series and has beaten Churanoumi the past 3 times they've faced.

Kotozakura had a jun-yusho in May but it was an 11 - 4. I'm not certain even a 14 - 1 could get him promoted. His consistency is the closest to Yokozuna at this point, just a bit off.

Looks like a severe knee injury for Asanoyama. You can see something snap in his left knee in the replay.

Mitakeumi looking as surprised as I was with that decision (Teddy Atlas intensifies)

Hoshoryu continues to look impressive.

Good win for Takakeisho but what a fall.

Terunofuji going for that Yusho and a few more basho off.

The next Yokozuna Shodai blessing us with two great showings in week 1.

Oshoma, Shonannoumi, Wakatakage and Tamawashi still going strong after 5 days.

Onosato finally decides to turn it up and makes easy work of Kirishima.

Terunofuji having to put a bit more work in today, but still no trouble as far as his knees are concerned.

Some people mentioned Asanoyama tore his ACL and damaged his MCL.
Long time before he'll be back

Yep, he'll be back in Makushita, if he even returns at all. He might just call it quits at this point, but we'll see.

Wakatakawhatthehellwasthatkage makes his long awaited return.

Shodai out here looking like a hungry up and comer.

Some soft-ass tachiais going on this basho.

Don't have a clue where the Kirishima from earlier this week went, but it's clear for the moment he's not Ozeki level.

Ura you had it my boy!

Takakeisho just gets tired far too quickly.

Terunofuji beats Tobizaru without getting injured, success!
