SUMO - 2020 "Nagoya" Basho (July 19th - August 2nd)

Loving this basho, I really hope mita, asano and hakuho stay undefeated as long as possible

Nice welcoming from Hakuho for his fellow countryman.
Having no spectators around the dohyō has it's advantages, i guess.

If Hakuho keeps being this intense he might kill a guy on the dohyo.

wow, some amazing stuff on day 7. one of the best days in a while.

Kotoeko outmuscling Tochinoshin was a shocker. again, i think Tochinoshin can fight him off if he had a functional right knee, but it's still impressive to see.

Shohozan vs. Ikioi was a really fun brawl.

the lower body strength Enho had to use against Tamawashi was amazing as well. he was stuck in a pretty bad situation from the "tachiai" but staying on his feet and with the strong shallow grip on the mawashi, that was some great stuff.

Terutsuyoshi's amiuchi... wowow.

Shodai's defense can be pretty amazing, and he showed it again.

and Asanoyama and Hakuho still on track to have a fantastic showdown.

Very funny that the commentator named him "no hands down ever Kotoyuuki" :D at day 7. Still dont get why they dont restart. Blatant cheat.

Regarding Endo I thought he would fight at a higher level nowadays but he looks not 100%. Like some energy is missing.

Shodai's defense can be pretty amazing, and he showed it again.

Yep his equilibrium is very impressive. Greath that these two prospects back then in Mita and Shodai have developed further.

As I was away 2 years from Sumo the body change of Mitakeumi is still surprising and imo today was a good example that he has added a little too much weight.

Maybe I am wrong but it imo takes away his fantastic technical ability especially against the elite opponents. Slows down his reaction time and makes him too front heavy.

Really like this basho and Asanoyama looks in every aspect like a future Yokozuna. Will be very interesting to watch him vs. Mit/Shodai and Hakuho.

really poor from Takakeisho on day 8.

for the smaller guys, today was Ishiura's time to shine with the slick susoharai trip.

Was good to see Terunofuji win with a kimedashi, haven't really seen it as much lately from him but he's one of the few guys I remember from the last 5 or so years that used it very well

And Mita again dissapointing. Sorry but I will stand by that. 175kg is just way too much. Should loose 10kg.

Takakeisho vs Endo clear fault in judging. Should have been a win for Enho.

edit: Ok correction. Enho Taka was called a shini-tai and because Enho was flying and Takakeisho had dominant position he got the win despite stepping out earlier. Kinda strange because for dead body rule Enho should be completely in air but he was planted with one foot inside. Imo still a missjudgement

yeah i don't like the dead body rule to begin with, but that and the Asanoyama/Okinoumi rematch were poor decisions.

god bless Tokushoryu, by the way.

The midget trio (enho, terutsuyoshi, ishiura) is continuing to impress me.

Still really hate the dead body rule. Leaves way too much to interpretation and is poorly applied too often (like today). To me Enho going for the belt and being able to prolong his exit from the ring with his legs and balance shows that the rule shouldn't have been applicable.

Really happy for Terunofuji already getting kachikoshi and being well in the yusho race. Also can't wait for Asanoyama and Hakuho to face off

How can I find out the next day opponent for rikishi?

You can clearly see him lift his leg up mid air to avoid touching the ground. Sumo should be scorched earth. Whoever touches the ground first loses, doesn't matter if the other guy is about to land head first in lava.
