I have to admit, i'm being a bit agitated at all the comments (not here, but all over media) that "there is not enough of Joker in this movie". I thought it was waaay more than needed. And not just because Joker sucked, but bcs it's a SUICIDE SQUADmovie.
sorry, i guess i need to work more on my anger management.
Just got back. Quite possibly the worst superhero movie i've seen. Including Batnipples and Macguire hip swinging on the street. I wanted to like this movie, and was on the HELL YEAH bench when they announced it, but every decision since has been a bad one.
Assault on Arkham was much better, in story, common sense, building the team, relationships etc etc.
Turns out, 6 weeks for developing a script equals crap. Huh, who knew?
Don't confuse my criticism with nerdy crying over difference from the source material. It's not that. I welcome a different take on some matters. But taking a different take/approach solely for distancing oneself from the past takes is stupid. There has to be an idea as to why you're doing it, which this movie lacks.
The movie was needlessly rushed, with characters that don't have to be there forcefully crammed into it (Joker, for one, i could live without. Add Flash, Brother). The basic concept is (or IMO should be) that SS is there bcs they need to handle things the government or ARGUS cannot be associated with (i can't remember a Marvel equivalent off the top of my head, but X Force comes to mind, with me knowing they are actually good guys). That's it. Not metahuman fighting. Not covert ops for righteous reasons (as in this case). As Flag said, there's nothing they can do that a Spec ops team led by Flag couldn't handle. Also, they don't know their specific roles. I didn't expect them to be all extremely coordinated but one single training session or general "You do this, and your team member compliments you in that" talk would make more sense than just letting them off the chain.
Yeah, it's a superhero movie, and one shouldn't look for logic and common sense in them, but having a baseball bat and sharpened boomerangs against those two baddies was beyond ridiculous.
With those psychos, i don't see how they found reasons not to go with R rating.
The reshoots for added humor are possibly one additional reason why the movie is all over the place.
I liked the music but it seems as if it's random, and generally doesn't fit with the stuff actually going on. When Diablo started his sob story, you could almost hear "Cue emotional music". Also, as others said, GotG wannabe, but failing in the end.
Joker was a massive letdown, the only thing i did like about this version is the laugh. Tats, mannerism, it just all screams over the top. Yeah, i do like that he was not afraid to do a different take, but it just doesn't work. Some of his scenes are there just for the sake of it, such as the Common scene. It provides nothing in added value for the movie. I just didn't understand the point of having him in the movie. Arguably, Slipknot has a role. He demonstrates the bomb in the neck thing and the fact that Flags and Waller are not making just empty threats. Joker, not so much. If they did him as the main villain, sure. In this way, not so much. Not every Batman associated movie needs to be about Joker. When he was first showed, i was just on the verge of sobbing. I just couldn't even begin to compare that with this revelation of the iconic character:
I'm not gonna go through everyone, but acting part seemed like utmost crap.
Margot is a one trick pony. Did you get that she was crazy? Cause if you didn't, she'll tell you five additional times. We get it, move on, develop the freakin character, which fits you so damn well. Argggghhh. She looks great, but her acting chops need serious work.
Joel Kinnaman was also all over the place. Cara Delavigne looked like crap. Killer Croc looked retarded. Courtney was also overacting.
Smith is Smith. As most of us imagined. He should've been in the mask everytime he's in his suit. End of story, no face time. If Ryan Reynolds can hide behind the mask, so can you, you egoistical maniac. That said, his acting, when not overshadowed by his real life image, is solid.
Waller is also OK, though i didn't understand motives for some actions.
The dialogue and exchanges are uninspired, cliche, not always connected and generally appalling.
The humor is just not there. It's mostly a 13 year old take on Harley being a babe, the guy that can manipulate fire and that Killer Croc looks like...well...Killer Croc.
I'm sorry for the block of text, i'm just so utterly dissapointed, i needed to get if off my chest.
2/10
BvS did just that. And Snyder ruined it for everyone.
Agreed on those points. On the last one, the stats immediately reminded me of Borderlands.
Such a cop out. Obviously a schict for "mom, it's not a phase" comments on the Joker appearance. Also, it's not making any sense in the timeline, as others noted. It would make more sense if this was the Red hood/Death in the family thing. Real, older Joker kills Robin. He comes back, mentally deranged or "damaged" if you will. Becomes Joker. Yeah, everyone confirmed it's not gonna happen, but it would be so sweet.
The R rating comment also doesn't make any sense. Of course the point of the R rating in this movie is not for someone to smoke. You were not allowed the rating, be the man and (to quote Harley) "Own that shit!"
This post is a good example of why comic book movies aren't made to appeal to comic book fans. Nothing anyone does is going to be good enough for you. You're far too busy showing off how much you know about comics, to ever actually take the time to enjoy anything.

If you don't agree with my rating, so be it. But don't go accusing me of fanboyism and showing off.
I rated this as a movie, not as a comic book movie. The fact that i do know different versions of some characters and have limited knowledge on some characters (very few, mind you) probably influenced my opinion a bit but not in a "how could you do that to my beloved character". The flaws that i see in this movie (and in no way, shape or form is anyone obliged to agree with me) IMO arise from poor script, studio meddling and last minute cuts and changes. Nothing to do with difference from the source material or previous iterations of some characters.
Yeah, i know Joker is always there somewhere when Harley is involved but still. You don't have Batman every single time Catwoman is involved in a specific storyline.
Sorry, i don't understand what "Beardsleys" is supposed to mean.
#latetotheparty, but SS has to be one of the worst directed movies I've ever seen.
- el Diablo chilling in a dry tank, he gets let out - an ocean of water drains from the tank.
- In the bar scene Cpt Boomerang leaves the squad - right back with them in the next scene.
- The scene with Common was one of the worst scenes in cinema - so confusing, and why did they cut to Waller saying: "that was just the beginning" after Joker offs Common? It was just one kill, nothing special ffs.
- The transformation of Harleen into Harey was the most confusing thing ever. First he seduces her, then he fries her mind, then he gives her a Joker chemical bath - why would he do that if she was so in love with him that she would help him murder all the guards of Arkham in the first place?
- Why did Rick Flag make a point of the army guys not being fit to engage the zombies when Harley was killing them left and right with a handgun and a baseball bat?
- Was it really necessary to have EVER scene transition be accompanied by an instantly recognisable hit song?
- Why is KC so small?
- Did we really need "trading card stats" exposition for the background of every character?
- Is it just me or did we get repetitions of flashbacks?
- Why did non-trained, non-powered, openly defiant miscreants get sent in to fight a GOD? WTF was the Flash, WW, Aquaman, anyone????
I hate this movie, and not even as a huge comic fan (I have no problem with not-true-to-the-comics Batfleck, Cap, Spider-Man, etc.) I hate it as a movie-goer.

1. They flooded the tank so he doesn't go all Aztec Sun God on their asses. Did you miss the part where he was literally fuming like a fucking kettle the second they let him out of the tank?
2. Boomerangs bro, they come back. Also, why wouldn't he? He was having the time off his life!
3. The second Common made a comment regarding Quinn he was dead. Everything else was Joker making him squirm for the hell of it. One Joker kill we see onscreen. You think that's the last time he killed someone?
4. Shitty editing at work here, but it's very clear what goes on. Harleen loves Joker, he uses that to bust out of Arkham. Before leaving he decides to make Harleen into his sex slave/regular slave/love of his life/favorit toy of the week and does some electro shock therapy brain washing. Then through the process of shitty editing we fast forward to the scene where he's probably already bored with here and decides to make her kill herself for his amusement...buuuut the second she falls in the vat he gets second thoughts(I guess he really started to like her) and jumps right in after her. Now, in the comics that's how she gets the Harley Quinn look(pale skin, perma make up red lips and wacky colored hair) but in SS that was a just a subtle nod to the comics because you see Harley is a natural blonde and just dyes her hair in those colors and wears make up, the same is with Joker. The chemicals had no affect(that we know of) to Harley's transformation. Oh, and he did all this to her because he's a fucking psychopath who kills children! He was in a goddamn straight jacket locked up in DC's worst of the worst lonney bin!
5. I think it's not that they can't kill those Zombies it's that he didn't wan to risk their lives. That's why the Skwad was there. They are on the front line and if shit goes south...oh well, they were criminals in the first place.
6. Shitty editing i guess. They had to make the movie as cartoonish as possible.
7. I'll agree that they could have made Croc at least a bit taller but if you ask me he was great. I guess they had to humanize him as much as possible. Also Croc in a lot of adaptations is just a big dude with bad skin.
8. Again, the entire marketing for this movie is very cartoonish and they wanted them to be as wacky as possible. It was not needed but that's the angle they went with.
9. Yeah, we did.
10. I have no idea. It made zero sense that Batman or Cyborg didn't swing by and see what's up. Especially since they showed Enchantress' evil spell spreading across what looked like the entire hemisphere. Cap Boomer going one on one with Enchantress's bro with a Boomerang was pathetic to watch.
1. They flooded the tank so he doesn't go all Aztec Sun God on their asses. Did you miss the part where he was literally fuming like a fucking kettle the second they let him out of the tank?
Makes sense from a prison procedure point of view... kinda... But still. While he was in the tank was dry and he told them to f**k off in fire-speek, and when he got out he was wet for a second, the rest of his processing (getting strapped in, bomb being implanted) he was liable to flame on. They could have dedicated 2 seconds to dousing him in a foam or something that would imply fire retardant properties.
3. The second Common made a comment regarding Quinn he was dead. Everything else was Joker making him squirm for the hell of it. One Joker kill we see onscreen. You think that's the last time he killed someone?
Sure, that makes sense, but I just didn't get that. I mean, my brain wanted to read the scene so as to get what you just said, but the whole thing was just so awkwardly put together. And the Waller line after the kill is still horrible. If she's telling the story and the scene is part of her narative, a line like "that was just the beginning" feels like it should follow the exposition of a larger scale crime.
In any case, I feel like it would have been a much better movie if a retarded person wasn't doing the final cut. So many things seem out of place simply because scenes seem to have been spliced into the movie without anyone actually paying attention to the repeating flashbacks, contradictory scenes, lack of transition, etc.

I would have to re watch the movie to give a better answer to your remarks. I never got the feeling that him being dry in a tank and the next of him being soaking wet were ment to be percived that they occured one after the other. I'll agree though, that scene where they assemble the squad and Diablo is just standing there in the background. He could'ev fried everyone in a 10 mile radius and just walk away calmly somewhere. Though thinking a bit more about it, his entire narative is that he hates using his powers and them flooding the tank was mearly a percaution in case he decides to go "flame on!" and burn everyone.
I really didn't have a problem with Boomer just popping up again. He seemed like a very impulsive dude, one minute he'll say "fuck this shit" the other he'll get bored with whatever he's doing and decide to change his mind and stick around for the show. Again, this is just me and my point of view.

Well, she does say they were the King and Queen of Gotham. Maybe they were on a fucking crime spree before Batman decided to drop by. A lot of things were left hanging in the Ayer. What's with Jokers tatoos, how does Harley helping J kill Robin fit in the timeline, why did a murder friendly Batman decide to let Joker live... shrug your shoulders and hope a logical explenation comes forth.

I'm probably in the minority here but I liked the finished product overall. It should have been a much better movie but it taking everything into account it did great. I just hope WB doesn't think this means they should interfere with there movies even more now.
To add a little to DL's reply. If it wasn't still in theaters it would mean something had gone catastrophically wrong. Even Fant4stic was out for 11 weeks. Even Jonah Hex was out for 8 weeks. The only major comicbook film to not be out for at least five weeks was Punisher Warzone, which got yanked after three pathetic weeks that totaled only $8mil.
I'd guess that Skwad will be in the theaters for 16-18 weeks. 18 weeks is the median for comicbook films.

That PUnisher warzone movie is a cult classic now. I dont know if he has suffered even worse critical reviews than Skwad, but it is not considered a very good film.

During WW2, the Japanese were known for ruthlessly killing damn near everyone, and only taking prisoners to eventually kill them anyway. Unlike the Germans, the Japanese haven't really owned up to their atrocities or issued any real apologies.
The Rising Sun symbol is SE Asian version of the swastika.

Kinda stupid plot, but not too stupid and and the same time at least a little bit different from the norm.
Somewhat odd morality, but not too odd.
Reasonably interesting characters. Don't really get the chemistry though. One second they seem like enemies forced into a tenuous alliance, talking about killing each other. Next second they're hugging. Think I'd have prefered if the SS blackhats had stayed enemies with the whitehats. They are supposed to be bad guys, after all. Now they're just good guys with a rap sheet.
Superhero team of 7 with roughly 2.5 superpowers between them. And if I understood correctly, Suicide Squad is the US governments safeguard against Superman? Good luck with that.
They kinda blew it with Crock. I prefer the Serious House iteration where he's basically a man-eating tyrannosaurus. Welp, now that character's wasted for future DC movies.
Can't stand Swedish actors in Hollywood movies. Just a personal peeve of mine. No matter how much they try to fake an american accent I can still tell. So every second Kinnaman was onscreen was annoying.
Harlequin was funny and refreshing.
Then she got overexposed and annoying. But I still got a good hour of enjoyment out of her. Hurr.
I get that they want to distinguish new sleek Joker from old grunge Joker, but I don't really like the new version. Also, think he should have been in the squad. Would have made for more interesting dynamic.
Still can't stand Affleck as Batman. Just isn't the right role for him.
Some funny lines, a few nice action scenes (not many). I guess I appreciate the visual style of the movie more than some seem to do.
DC movie universe is still weird, awkward and illogical (and lacking continuity). But I don't mind it being a darker contrast to marvel. Hope they get it right somewhere down the line.
BvS was out for three months (12 weeks). But it had lost half of its theater saturation by the end of week five so there's a decent chance that it was done after a month at your local theater.
Oh, and 12 weeks is really poor for a blockbuster that opens at $166mil.

When she said that, I was interested, but then the SS was finally assembled, and all we got was a guy who can swim really fast, a guy with Avatar firebender-level powers, and a guy with good aim.
So a question to those who have seen it. I heard it was shit because the original was too dark so they tried to add humour but unfortunately didn't implement it well due to lack of time. So I presume the original or at least an updated version will be released right, and if so is it worth waiting for?

I don't think there will be another version. But Ayer did hint at them putting the Joker and Harley scenes that were cut to prevent the movie from being dark on the home release as extras.
