My original post itt said that the Axis and the Confederates shouldn't be compared to each other. Not trying to downplay how bad slavery was, but it was nothing compared to what the Axis did.

How? Millions of people died across generations and there was widespread rape and torture. I guess year by year it wasn't as bad but just think about the fact the people lived their entire lives as slaves. Both are among the worst things humanity has ever committed and I don't think its fair to say one was much worse than the other.

however, i think some people simply have the flag around as some vague symbol of southern heritage. its almost as if they like baiting people into some shit about it.

Imo the Southern flag is more of a symbol of defiance than racism in today's world.

I get that but that's a narrow way of looking at it. On the flipside no Holocaust survivor was born into a concentration camp and had to live out their entire lives in those conditions. Both are horrific in their own way and its hard to say one is worse than the other.

I agree with your point, but not all slaves lived in the conditions we see portrayed in the movies (granted way too many did). Some slaves lived as butlers, nannies and maids, or cooks - that wasn't a lot different from those roles today - and were seen as something closer to family that slaves.

With that in mind I would say that at least some slaves had it much better than any Jew or Gypsy in Germany; even if it were slavery for life.

Where I am from, its just what rednecks put on their truck to fit in. If you asked them, id wager they wouldnt know what theyre defying. I think most just see it as pride in southern heritage.

And why do you care what others display? Where is your outrage at minorities using ethnic slurs? Racism and evil thoughts aren't limited to just the hillbillies.
