Students Suspended Indefinitely For Confederate Flag

If only the kid had worn a swastika, then you'd support him through and through, amiright?
The swastika was really prone to bad influences.

The swastika was/is a Hindu symbol for peace and luck, but because of it's association with nazism people distanced themselves from it. The confederate flag associated with racism by most people, but a small group wants to convince people its about heritage.

I thought the Nazi turned the swastika slightly, and that is what differentiates it from the Hindu/Buddhist symbol

It was a joke based on another poster's... questionable view of Hitler.

Jukai you are correct but i think they look similar enough that most people see them as the same.

In Hinduism and Buddhism, the swastika can be seen facing both ways (apparently right facing is more common in Hinduism, and left facing is more common in Buddhism).
The Nazi swastika is always facing right, and is usually (but not always) tilted -but although rare, tilted versions can be seen in Hinduism and Buddhism as well.

So a swastika does not automatically means Nazism, even if tilted.
However, a person in the western hemisphere using the symbol (tilted or not), is not very likely to think of any east-asian religious or cultural meanings behind them.
