Students Suspended Indefinitely For Confederate Flag

War and slavery is awful, deliberately destroying cultures and mass murder is worse.

Chattel slavery of blacks included deliberate efforts to destroy culture and included mass murder. Are you one of those pro confederate flag guys or are you just not that knowledgeable about chattel slavery in the US?

The Germans and the Japanese should never be compared to the Confederate states of America.

A shitload of slaves were mistreated, tortured, raped, and murdered. Many call it a genocide of which the CF is a leading symbol.

But of course it's not really that bad.

I'm guessing that this catholic school would expel a student for that too. Not to mention that these two students would not likely be kicked out of public school.

It was banned at my old high school to cut down on fights between blacks and whites.

I like how you purposely ignored the 'mass murder' part.

It's pretty well documented that the # of murders (a large amount of which happened on the boats to the Americas with elderly, sick, and young children who were not taking the voyage well being thrown overboard because the captains had the cargo insured against losses and could get more money for the slaves that were not going to be in good condition on arrival by killing them than by getting them to auction alive but weak) attributed to the African slave trade numbered well into the millions and far exceeded the death toll of the entire civil war.

Let's be real folks, this was massive scale government protected human trafficking.

The reason human trafficking is generally regarded as worse than murder and rape is that it usually involves substantial amounts of murder and rape in addition to the slavery.

God bless those heroes. They're not kids anymore, no, they're men. They're paving the way for future bravery. These angels will be long remembered for their actions. Years from now people will look back on this heroic restraint and remember, this was the day it all changed, this is ground zero of a new America. May the sun always rise on these men.

SCOTUS granted schools some flexibility on the first amendment under Tinker where certain kinds of speech could be banned from being made on school grounds if they were sufficiently disruptive. (Tinker) I'm not altogether comfortable with it, but it's arguably necessary to keep schools under control, or at least was when it was ruled on.

Private school. Who cares?

I'm sure there's a code of conduct and I'm sure the principal has broad discretion in interpreting it. But there's no freedom of speech issue at play so if kids want to do things that will have consequences then let them have those consequences as long as it doesn't involve federal prosecution or some other over-reaction.

I thing school over use this to enforce whatever policy they support and the burden should be on the school to prove something meets this criteria but I understand why they must have this ability.

Are you retarded?..

Oh yeah, you never graduated school. Forgot for a moment there :icon_chee

My original post itt said that the Axis and the Confederates shouldn't be compared to each other. Not trying to downplay how bad slavery was, but it was nothing compared to what the Axis did.

Everyone is unless you think a kid should be able to wear shirts with curse words or pornographic images to school?

Is that censorship or more like age discrimination? If nobody can wear these shirts in public without being ticketed or something then I'd consider that censorship.

Weird, I'm in Houston TX and I see rednecks with Confederate shirts/truck stickers everywhere. Nobody cares, Hispanics and African Americans deal with those dudes all the time here.

So you think it's better journalism to not print what the principal said about the issue, than it is to print it? Because you don't like what the principal said?

That's dumb. Stop projecting.

Reporters never print everything a person said. They always pull out a few quotes to use. It has to be that way. You can't print every word someone said.

Should've gone incognito.

its odd that people want to sport a flag of another country. one that sought to separate itself from us so that they could own slaves.

however, i think some people simply have the flag around as some vague symbol of southern heritage. its almost as if they like baiting people into some shit about it.

school overreacted.

If a politician makes a speech a good report will have that entire speech next to the report to give context. In this case it was an incident at a school the official from that school made a statement. Not including the Schools statement on the issue would be terrible journalism.
