I tend to agree with the decision, but I would have had no issue with it going to Sandhagen. Had TJ simply been establishing "control time" by pushing Sandhagen against the cage with no tangible offense (a la Vera/Couture), I'd have been very displeased with the decision. However, TJ had Sandhagen in a rear waist-lock position for long periods of time. I wouldn't quite put this on par with back mount, but it should still count as appreciable offense in my opinion as it equates to progress towards finishing the fight. Damage takes first priority, but the advantage in damage from Sandhagen over TJ wasn't enough to offset the positional success of Dillashaw, in my opinion. This is just my 2 cents and understand if folks disagree -- ultimately, it goes down to what sorts of offense you value, even with the unified rules and criteria set.
