Strengthening tendons and ligaments?

Ah yes... the foam roller. I've been wanting one for a while, but would you believe that the cheapest one I've seen here in Denmark costs 60USD plus shipping? It's quite insane really... It is completely absurd if it ends up making more sense to order one internationally.

You can use one of those cardboard tubes that posters come in, or really anything that's cylindrical and resists compression.

You can't strengthen ligaments. They're non-contractile and pretty much avascular, so that means you can't strengthen them as you would muscles.

Tendons can be strengthened by plain old weight lifting, it just depends on what a professional (physiotherapist) would recommend for you.

But, if you find a supplement that works, go for it. Good luck to you.

I don't really have a good answer to your question BUT if you're looking for ways to strengthen your knees start doing TKEs. I was having inner knee pain for a while from running and no matter how much time off I took it always came back, but it was only on my left leg.

So I figured it was maybe a weakness in the vastus medialus (made a thread about it) and someone recommended I start doing terminal knee extensions (TKEs) and they have worked wonders. I only do them one day a week on my squat day right before I lift and its done the trick.

Don't know if any one still cares, but glucosamine chondrotin is awesome! I have horrible knees (minor deformities that cause dislocations of the patella), and they HURT!!! Also, strengthening the quadricep muscles also helps with knee injuries. Keep in mind though, if you do have some minor mutation like I have, all the strength in the world won't prevent injury.

if your meniscus 'popped'...ie ripped...that's tough shit as it heals nil to none...

ligaments can heal depending on which and the extent of the tear...

cissus quadrangularis can help speed up healing bones/tendons/ligaments...

glucosamine/chondroitin will help with meniscus/joint damage...

how do we know it works? because despite contrary to popular belief most people are not utter morons...if something doesnt work then at some point those people would stop wasting money on a supplement(at some point...muscletech has been trying to disprove this for a while)...I have been using glucosamine chondroitin for a few years for my shoulder and knee and it works quite well....it makes day to day function much easier...and may help heal the injury outright depending on the extent of it...

I have very weak tendons in my girly wrists. They often hurt like shit, but only in supinated position. What should I do/take ?

In terms of sups, I would also go with the glucosamine. Taking in some extra Vit C wouldn't hurt either. If it's the tendon that's irritated or inflamed you could use some non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, but surely your doctor should know about this.

Old thread here, but I'll just give an update on the knee:

DEVILsSON: By popped, he just meant that it had popped out of position and then back again, not that it was broken.

My knee healed quickly and felt pretty fine after just two weeks. I sprained the ankle on my other leg badly at that point, but that's another story...

good to hear Mum....if you have the misfortune of hearing a loud pop in your knee and then have accompanying pain...you'll learn to dread that sound for the rest of your life....

Yeah... pop+pain is never nice. This was probably my first ever knee injury and hopefully it will be my only one. My shoulder may be shit, but at least my knees are good.

K1ck to answer your question...do wrist exercises...you can use sledgehammer(Start light at 8-10lb)...and choke down on the handle as necessary(grip away from the end towards the middle until it becomes doable)....and do front, side, back, overhead levers.....you can also use something like a broom with a weight secured to the end or a specific levering gadget made by some companies...high repetitions spaced with some infrequent lower rep sets will significantly strengthen your wrists...
