Strength in Interesting Places

I have designed a new programme, a version of Smolov, for bicep curls. I was going to call it "Smolov Jr Jr" but then I remembered that bicep curls aren't junior to anything- they are the king of all exercises. I was going to go with "Smolov Senior" but I don't think that quite captures the awesomeness of bicep curls. So eventually I settled on the following:

I think a routine like this, had it been created by any other person than Jaunty, would be worthy of JauntyPoints. Of course, this is to be expected of the person who was innovative enought to develop said JauntyPoints.

Very true. And it highlights my sad tale- one of those most worthy of JauntyPoints, yet never to possess even a single one!

Still, actually doing the programme and thereby massively increasing my ability to point people in the right direction of the Gun Show would doubtless ease the pain somewhat.

Some of you might not know that I *really* love strongman competitions, especially WSM. I guess I first watched it in the late 70s, but my first real memories of it are from the early 80s.

Anyway, last week I watched this documentary from a few years ago about WSM. It's been linked to once or twice in the main forum, so I am not posting it there. But I figure a few people who read this log won't have seen it and might enjoy it. I thought it was fantastic:

Din, Voodoo- I think it's pretty clear that after you've done a big lift or hit a PR, you need to channel Jean-Pal Sigmusson by shouting "I am a Viking!!!!" and/or doing his big theatrical laugh.

Thanks man, ive been wanting to see that again! I like WSM, but i like the old school guys like this :) Only thing i dont like about WSM is the stupid song :P

Chiang Mai: Week Three, Workout Three
Thus did he pray, and Apollo heard his prayer. He came down furious from the summits of Olympus, with his barbell upon his posterior deltoids, and the weights rattled on his back with the rage that trembled within him... First he smote the guidos and the bros, but presently he aimed his barbell at the CrossFitters and the bodybuilders, and all day long the pyres of the dead were burning.

I can't help but applying my new system to your lifting as you count tonnes, and I could easily match the tonnage with the equal weight of model.

but I just can't make myself do that to you

thanks for posting the WSM video. Ate up 50 minutes of my life which at 0500 hours is much appreciated.

well I could have gone with something more Americanized

or even I could pick something other than azn

Notes
- Squats were good today. 105kg is my 5RM, which I guess I need to use for the comp. So from now on, every top set on 5s day is a new PR for the comp. Before when I got to 105 my depth started falling off, but I am 100% sure that I am going to progress now. Stay tuned.
- Bench was easy. Probably could have gone heavier.
- Did some light barbell rows- took it easy as the last few times they give me a slight ouchie in my back.
- Today's workout took a long time as I was with a friend and team-mate who likes working out. We tested his 1RM on bench (he got to 88kg, not bad for a guy in his early 50s who doesn't do it seriously at all), and I also got him to try deadlifting. At first he was reluctant as he has had back and knee issues, but he ended up really liking it. He had pretty good form right off, and he got up to 80kg without fuss. I'm going to start him there for his linear progression. He's extremely reluctant to squat, but I will work on him gradually, and in the meantime probably get him to power clean as well. Anyway, the extra time taken with my new workout partner meant that I didn't have time to do everything. I'll do my incline bench and some more GHRs tomorrow, along with my conditioning work.

I've been full of silly thoughts recently haven't I?

Bro Workout Day

C2 rower: 5000m in 26 minutes 50 seconds.
Dips x10, x10, x10
Raised-leg crunches x10, x10, x10 (supersets with dips)
Barbell bicep curls 35kg x10, x10, x10
Dumbbell tricep extensions 17.5kg x5, x5, x5 (superset with curls)

I decided to do dumbbell tricep extensions because the incline on the bench in my gym is pretty shallow and I don't think it will have so much carryover to press as the steeper ones I was doing in CM. As I was planning to do tricep extensions next anyway, I decided to do the jump now. They should have been yesterday but I ran out of time. They were surprisingly hard- even on 17.5kg (38.5lbs) they were a little difficult and by the fifth rep I was running out of steam (of course I can curl the same weight for 10 pretty easily). So this is great news, as it means my triceps are very weak, and so I have something I can improve quickly and easily which will help both press and bench.

Ab work was too easy- too little volume. I did bicep curls for the obvious reason- they are awesome.

Some cardio, ab work, gunz work, some dips... pretty good bro workout.

I don't actually worship Sq
