He signed a contract that stipulates if and when he fights, it must be in the UFC and for a certain amount of money. In no way is any fighter ever contractually required to fight.
Apparently this is true even after a fight contract is signed for a specified date and opponent, as shown by the "Lioness" the other week after she was medically cleared yet still pulled out of the day of or the day before the fight, I can't recall which now. As far as I know, she wasn't punished in any way.
Holding out is a viable option for Stipe and everyone else on the UFC's roster. In turn, the UFC has the option to renegotiate, or not.

So everything you have said about the UFC contracts is true.. They are one sided but the fighters still sign those contracts and are bound by them.. it is their option not to fight but if they do it is for what they signed for.

I am all for the fighters getting whatever they can but you put no responsibility on the fighter for signing a bad contract.
 
He officially made $600k to fight Overeem at UFC 203.
If he's not happy, fuck him. Cut him.

You are still missing the point.

The UFC bakes into the contract the ability to cut the fighter at any time with no further compensation. The fighter, to advocate for themselves, can chose not to fight. That is literally their only leverage.

Stipe is exercising his right to sit out. Saying 'you signed the contract' is misguided. The contract is not enforceable with regards to compelling someone to cage fight. That is not legally possible. It does prevent them from fighting elsewhere while the contract is still active. Stipe isn't in breach of that deal.
 
Reem has been fighting the best of the best for 15 years and is still a top fighter.
Stipe has no right to request more salary than him really, sorry but it's not amatuer sports it's pro.

I do understand lightweight guys complaining that they don't make as much as the lower ranked Sage, but this is Overeem we're talking about. He's done it all and has been around forever.

Yes. He has been (T)KOed forever, but that does not automatically mean he must be getting paid more than the actual champion who kicked his a$s on top of that.

Interesting how you brought up Golovkin, who's less than two months away from being able to cash a eight figure payday after his fight against Canelo.

He's been doing well for himself the last few years too, especially considering he's not a PPV fighter save for the one fight vs Lemiuex. He's been strictly an HBO fighter the last number of years otherwise. $1.5 million guaranteed against Monroe Jr. $2 Million plus against Lemieux. $2 million guaranteed vs Wade. $5 million guaranteed against Brook. $2.5 million guaranteed against Jacobs in his last fight. And now a fight against Canelo where he has a chance to equal what he's earned in total from those past 5 fights of his combined if not moreso.

Stipe's payouts have been good, as far as I remember?

Although I certainly think he is worth more, he should wait to renegotiate after he beat the HW title defense record.
Then he can make an argument for being rightfully the most well-paid HW of all time.
