Yes, he should renegotiate, I agree with you.

If I was Stipe, I would talk to Bellator, use them as leveridge. Gilbert Melendez did this.
 
I don't know enough about contracts to really judge this situation but I think every Champ should have his contract renegotiated as long as they hold the belt. It would be huge if every champ would do that. The UFC wouldn't be able to strong arm these guys anymore. If they don't have the balls to do it they don't deserve more money. Good for Conor, Stipe and Demetrius. Pay them.

Nah. Contracts are renegotiated all the time in sports particularly. The UFC doesn't have qualms about releasing a fighter who they feel is no longer worth the amount they have agreed to. So why should a fighter do the same if they feel that they've outgrown the contract they currently have?

I understand what you're saying and genuinely want Stipe to be paid at least 2-3 times what he takes home currently.

The problem is though, that holding out doesn't always solve the issue in places like the NFL. It's a hit or miss tactic, and Stipe has to make his own decisions.

I just wonder about how successful stalling his own career would be for his longterm earnings.

Have to step back and look at the big picture.
 
Would Be great If a champ moved to bellator. Fuck the ufc and their policies

Wow he really did that? What an eternal dumb move. Even for HW in MMA he is not an exceptional boxer. Joshua would obliterate him in seconds. The Conor fight is just a freak show no one takes serious and Mayweather will drag him through some rounds or even go for a boring decision but the HW MMA champ getting stomped in seconds would really damage the sport.

He is getting more since he was champ
After the Overeem fight he got more for JDS, he told Ariel that.
He has has two contractual bumps in pay since he won the belt from Werdum
He just doesn't feel they were enough now because both JDS & Reem had a higher guarantee then him
So looking back, he now wants more going forward.

Nobody should be making more than the Champs. Period. I don't care about merchandise, PPV numbers, being able to sell a fighter to the fans. If you are the top dog in your weight class, you should be paid as such. Minimum. That's not the case here so pay the man. If you're Conor, if you are the complete package, you should ask for as much as you want.

Sports are not like that though
Yankees, Cowboys, etc are by far the highest paid teams & have been nowhere near the best
Best players don't make the best money
 
Hard to feel sorry for Stipe.

He tries but he's just not entertaining outside of the cage.

Smart move to renegotiate now though. He has the leverage.

Well, I agree with you as far as it being uncertain, but he will NEVER get the amount that he wants if he doesn't stand his ground. Only time will tell is his decision is actually beneficial or not.
 
He got the same deal with no changes in the JDS fight and in the Reem fight.. only thing is he made more money with CM Punk extra 100-150k buys.

He gave them (the UFC) the JDS fight.. same purse same conditions, now he won't do it again.
 
@Gonzaginator - Don't get me wrong, I'm all for stipe re-negotiating if he feels right doing so.

But I was just being factual regarding the fact that he re-negotiated after Werdum & again after reem.
If you remember Ariel drilled him before the JDS fight & he said he was very happy with his bump in pay after the Reem fight & Ariel kept asking "are you sure?" & Stipe started getting mad.

Funny looking back on it, because he was happy until he saw JDS pay lol
