Media Stipe: Ill do what I want against Jones

I'll be surprised if he survives the first round.

Power punching is a high variance MMA strategy; power punchers are always going to be vulnerable to something because sitting on a power punch leaves you in a relatively weak defensive position in terms of distance, feet, and hands. Jones fights standing on the outside and in the clinch where he has low variance advantages over everyone he fights. He doesn't stand in power punching range and he's the best there's ever been at closing from the outside to takedown/clinch without leaving himself vulnerable to the power punch - his takedown in the Gane fight is the textbook example of how to do this. No one's even rocked Jones on the feet, and Stipe's too old and slow to have a decent chance of being the first to do so, much less being the first to knock him down or out.

Stipe's not getting a first round stoppage. The most likely first round stoppage by far is a submission by Jones.
 
Jon does his front leg side-kicks to Stipe’s knees to test him out and get range going

Stipe has good hands, but HW Jones won't try to outstrike strikers.

The question is is Stipe good enough wrestler to prevent a 250-pound Jones from taking the fight to the ground. I don't think he is. Jones is still a phenomenal grappler. There's no way in hell Stipe survives if Jones takes him down.

Jones couldn’t even keep the fight on the ground against Santos and Reyes.

Assuming he’ll just wrestlefuck Stipe isn’t a bet I’d be willing to make.

The bigger question is whether Stipe is too diminished physically (age + rust) to put up a real challenge standing.
 
I am not so sure that Jones is the beast everyone thinks he is at heavyweight. We san him smoke Gane, who is a great matchup for him, but Stipe is a different fighter.
 
It’s disgusting that Jon is fighting an old man.. it will be even worse when he wins and celebrates it.

True. When people think of prime Jones, they are thinking of the LHW version. Jones isn’t a natural HW and the guys he could fight at HW hit way harder and are way stronger than they were at LHW.

As for Gane, he couldn’t even stop a takedown from one-legged Ngannou. He was always going to be a sitting duck against Jones.

I can't believe that we're less than a month away from those two fighting. Only thing left to happen is an eye poke related NC and we should be set for a couple more years of HW limbo.
 
Stipe will win and it will be because of him being great but people will still disrespect him and say Jones sucks at HW
 
This fight is going no longer than the Gane Jones fight unfortunately
