How do you see that happening? Stipe is super hard to grapple, and hard to finish on the feet as well. Jones doesn't have much KO power.

I see a long boring fight going the distance.

Anyone at all picking Stipe?

I latched on to Stipe as a fan way before he was champ. (even before the Struve fight ...) & people have been doubting him like this teh whole time.

The odds are -400 for Jon, which is high, but it's not the -1,200 we see when nobody believes in a fighter (Rousey/Holm for example) So this means that a lot of top analysts are giving Stipe a legit chance.

Were this prime vs prime, I think the odds would be closer... but people are doubting Stipe more due to 2 things that I think people are over estimating in favor of Jones.

• Age - Stipe's older than Jones, but Jones has obviously aged himself massively with all teh coke & god knows what he's been doing to himself all these years, while Stipe's been living clean & aging more naturally. Hard living equates to harder aging. Jon's exploding on a USADA guy & needs anger management classes, while Stipe ALWAYS remains light hearted & stoic. Emotional trauma ages someone beyond their years. I don't think age is a factor in this.​
• Ring Rust - It's a real thing for some, but not for others. I don't think this is an issue for Stipe. He was "fight ready" just under a year ago & he's a lot smarter than people think. I'd expect he's been keeping it as lit up as possible in teh gym to negate this.​

Btw I like Stipe and I sincerely hope that he lands a hail mary on Jones to win. Would be glorious.

No one has a better ufc hw record than Stipe, that’s why I said he’s the best ufc hw ever. Jones never lost, got dq’d. Gsp has 2 l’s not 4. Both have 25+ wins against competition in their prime. Nogueira has a WAY deeper MMA resume than Stipe, would feel like a fool
comparing these 2.

I think everyone cosiders him best ufc hw and lets leave it at that. I think the poster you quoted also thinks this way unless he really rates hw as premier div of mma.

Stipe hasn’t fought in nearly 4 years and has one win in over 5 years.

The betting markets don’t see this fight as being competitive for a reason.

Stipe was already retired and only took this fight because of the massive $ and allure of facing Jones.

I hope Stipe proves me wrong but so far it looks more an exhibition than a serious fight. Time will tell.

This is a 42-year-old Stipe who hasn’t fought in nearly 4 years.

What Stipe used to be is irrelevant against Jones as he’s probably a shell of himself now (and the betting markets reflect that belief).
