Garcia specifically called for the "BMF" Championship belt, which Max Holloway currently holds. If Max lost to Gaethje, then Garcia would've called out Justin instead. There are a lot of recognizable names in the FW division, including former champions that aren't Max Holloway, who is a lightweight that is near a title shot.
I dont get how it "does more" for him than calling out Jean Silva, who is a topical, active fighter that is pushed by the UFC who could plausibly fight Garcia. What exactly did calling Max Holloway out do for him? If not for this thread I'd have no idea he even done that.
Well, if Max is the BMF champion and he called out the BMF champion, he called out Max. Whether it is Gaethje or Max Holloway the problem is the exact same.Garcia specifically called for the "BMF" Championship belt, which Max Holloway currently holds. If Max lost to Gaethje, then Garcia would've called out Justin instead.
If the UFC offered Garcia a fight with Max for the BMF title, then you should assume it will happen at Lightweight.
Guys we literally had people on here that did not know who either Garcia or Onama were, are you seriously shocked Steve decided to call out one of the more recognizable names in FW? Regardless of Max being done with the weight that call out does more for Garcia in terms of having his name out there than Jean Silva, Arnold Allen or someone near his ranking.
You guys overestimate how much the average UFC fan cares about remembering fighters who aren't fighting for titles.
I mean to be fair, Zalal probably has bigger names on the table than Garcia - he deserves a top 5 guy.
At least he didn't call out the ghost of Brian Ortega
I'm tired of people acting like Josh Emmett is some legit contender and not just a guy that can hit hard.
That's fair. I don't think he'd actually get the Zalal fight, but he could then leverage that later on down the road and claim that Zalal ducked him or something.
Setting that aside, I get the feeling that Emmett or Pitbull are probably next for him.
