News Stephan Bonnar passed away (RIP)

RIP to a legend. I'm sure he won't be the last fighter to pass before his time, sadly, as this is a brutal sport and the amount of injuries, steroids, etc these fighters endure/ingest leaves them far worse off that the average person, but he will certainly be one of the most crucial to the sport's development into a powerhouse to pass.

At some point it is what it is. I was listening to a David spade interview last week about Chris Farley and he talked about how much him and others tried to help him but at some point it starts compromising your personal life. You just have to hope that they get better and that your fondest memories with them aren’t the bad times.

was recently Farley’s bday and Spade and Dana Carvey had a pod cast about it (they have a podcast anyways, this was a tribute), really got me right in the feels.

but yea, saw this news and was pretty shook. Reading the thread, seems Bonnar had some outside the ring problems I wasn’t aware of.

obviously with my join date I was a fan of mma before the TUF noobs, but god damn I was so happy when Bonnar and Griffin had their fight because I knew from that point on, MMA/UFC had made its way and what better finale to the first season of TUF could you have.

shit, I remember a similar kind of being thankful when UFC 37.5 on SPIKE or whatever had a great main event with Liddell and Belfort, which helped MMA a lot, but Bonnar Griffin was even more so perfect.

RIP, truly a pioneer, all things considered. God bless

I’ll never forget watching TUF1 with my dad some 20 years ago as a ten year older old kid. He had Forrest I had Stephan.

both men won. The fans won. The UFC won.

This was THE fight, that made UFC where it is today. Never forget. Can’t believe this.

rest in paradise Stephan Bonner

I was very saddened by this news. 45 years old is way to young for anyone to pass. He was an absolute warrior and helped to bring MMA to a wider audience. I wish he stayed in the MMA community after his fighting career. He will be missed. Godspeed Stephan.

I still think he easily won TUF finale. He was definitely robbed and was never the same afterwards. That decision always bothered me, no way Forrest won that fight...
After the fight, you could see it in his eyes that he knew he had won, he was TUF...Then they announced Forrest the winner, that had to be a huge punch to the gut for Bonnar. He never looked the same after, how could he...

45 is way too young for anyone to be passing away. May he rest in peace.

Horrible news. Always an entertaining fighter. His struggles the past few years were very unfortunate to watch unfold. I will remember him for all the great fights he had.

I always felt like the Forrest vs Bonnar fight and its value to the sport was a little overvalued. TUF 1 was already relatively successful and guys like Chuck and GSP were about to turn into megastars regardless. That being said it was a very good fight and perfect circumstances for the UFC to have that as the finale to their first reality show.

This one hurts. He always presented himself as a good guy, and I always rooted for him even when he was out of his league. Even more so.

It was better when he was around.

damn sad news man I was always a fan.

R.I.P Stephan
