Stephen played a pivotal role in introducing the sport to the mainstream. This meant the next generation of fighters would be able to live more comfortably and would be treated with a level of respect that those who came before them were never afforded.

RIP

This is my third post in this thread and I’m done after this.

Forrest vs Bonner TUF 1 finale is the greatest UFC fight of all time. Not the most technical. Not the best comeback. But the best “dude you gotta turn spike TV on and watch this” that the UFC will ever have.

two warriors gave literally everything they had and I remember people, more people, were tuning in after every round. This was prime time tv 20 years ago and this is a childhood memory I’ll never forget. Rewatching the first fight now. Never forget.

this was THE fight.

Gosh damn I can’t believe Stephan has passed away. This guy was half of UFC being successful today in a few days to be 2023.

Man it’s so sad the American Psycho couldn’t beat those demons. Stephan was a good man. Can’t believe he’s gone. Rest in paradise Stephan. Can’t believe you’re gone.

I always watched his fights. Very entertaining guy. Amazing chin as well.

It’s unfortunate that Bonnar fell on hard times later in his life. His war with Forrest will always be an all time classic. RIP.

RIP Stephen. Sad road the last few years and then to end at such a young age. Damn.

Damn did not see that coming… hopefully it was natural causes and not a result of his issues
Article I read said “heart complications”. My thought is he has been having some kind of long term substance abuse problem. He has not looked mentally self or a while. Kind of awful to see.

Dude was in a rough place his last couple of years.

That hospital video of him showing massive weight loss hit hard. RIP, he's no longer suffering.
I didn’t see that. The last video I remember seeing him in was the one where like hospital security I think was trying to restrain him, and he was yelling crazy shit into the camera and having a full on freak out. Physically he looked fine but he was clearly unstable

Rest in Peace, he played a HUGE role in bringing the sport to where it is today

I hope this is a wakeup call to other fighters too since many currently fighting were no doubt watching Bonnar when they were up and coming.

All the money and fame doesn't mean anything if you don't have your health and this sport can take it away in more ways than one.

"Heart complications" is a catch-all term in our field. There is no autopsy coming back that quickly. Probably had some chest pain or shortness of breath before collapsing so they're calling it cardiac preliminarily.

Whatever the cause, they're all sad. I hope he wasn't still in the mental anguish he appeared to be in for the last couple of years.
