That’s right, another weight cut thread

While you are correct that weight cutting will always be around, I kind of disagree on it as a "skill."

A wrestler begins his weight cut journey around the age of 12 or 13. It is most definitely a skill that they hone over years and years and years.

They did...

-Carlile never fought in California again, or the US for that matter.

-Barzola moved to 145lbs for his next fight in California, then dropped to 135 in other states...

Any change in the sport requires all AC's to be onboard, if they all do and nothing changes then the system doesnt change anyrhing, thats not the case here.

Right on. They did something.

no one was prevented from cutting weight
or limited in cutting weight.
Fights were not stopped-
guy with the most extreme weight cut fought.

1 guy will move up and continue cutting weight
other will go to another state to fight, so very little accomplished.
both will have full weight cuts (or did) for their next fight
Both of them fought at their supposedly illegal weights that night, including the guy the missed not only the 15% threshold (19% is wild) but also missed his weight class.

Actually pretty telling that nothing happened to UFC fighters when many missed weight but a few Bellator guys got a punishment. Reminds me of the drug testing policy where no one famous gets popped but a few inconsequential lower tier guys get a sanction to keep up appearances

The ruling addresses Re-Hydrating which if anything takes away from fighters safety.

The possible outcomes of solutions are

- more cancelations (big punishment)

- more danger to fighters (limiting rehydration) (hydration testing)

There is a sad irony in the fact that one of the original selling points of early MMA was the absence of weight classes, and now there is arguably no sport more obsessed with weight cutting than MMA.

When fighters talk about the hardest part of a training camp, it's almost never the training itself. It is making the weight. Not perfecting techniques or strategy, but how much water they can drain from their bodies without actually dying. That is not martial arts.
It'd be cool if the UFC could bring back the openweight division. If you can do stuff like the BMF, why can't you make an openweight title?

If a fighter has to move up a weight class like 99% of the times he will cut less weight than what he used to cut for the weight class below

If a fighter can go to a different state...thats been my point since i mentioned it, if all other states would adopt the same weight cut policies, or any policies, at least that one then the guy would be forced to move up, it doesnt have to be CSAC´s, just all of them implementing the same rules...they dont.

The thing with the UFC is that they rarely go to California, Bellator went 31 times in the last 10 years, UFC went 13 times, i guess there could be some truth that they will never touch UFC fighters, some have had issues tho, but then again, said fighter simply just wont fight in California, even if just a prelim guy, the UFC puts too many cards in other places to bother.

Dont focus on how bad (or good) the CSAC weight cutting rules are, the issue is that no one else does it.

The original argument was that no athletic commissions would allow that. But in today’s world, where a commission signed off on Jake Paul fighting a 60 year old Mike Tyson, and where slap fighting is legal, if they wanted to get open weight bouts now, I’m sure they could.

I'd just like to see the guys who walk around above 215 lbs relatively lean, just not cut weight and try HW.
