Steak

Not all cuts of meat are fatty. It isn't the traditional "steak" but a trimmed round steak probably has less fat than a trimmed chicken breast, or it is extremely close.
Braised trimmed round steak 185 g has 16 g fat
roasted chicken breast 200g has 8 g of fat

So less than half.

I love eating steak. I should eat a bit more of it though. When I go out to a restaurant, I order steak. This past weekend I had a 9oz steak @ Ruby Tuesdays. Delicious!

Steak's expensive.

I throw 96% lean ground beef in chili; that's where I get my red meat fix. The rest of the time is a lot of eggs, chicken, tuna ...

Cheaper and easier to prep in bulk at the start of the week.

the times I eat steak are when going out to eat or an evening of grilling. otherwise 93%-96% lean ground beef is what I eat several times per week.

I love steak, but I suck at cooking it (no grill at home), So I usually just go out for dinner once ever couple of weeks and eat one that's properly cooked. RARE!

i mainly eat red meat, rarely do i eat chicken, probably eat more fish than chicken.

1 meal of red meat a day is usually the norm for me....late afternoon most of the time.

On a side note, every time I see a post by theNuge I mutter "the nuuuuuuuuge" out loud to myself. I don't know why, but it's physiologically impossible for me to read that name and not say it.

I love steak, but chicken and fish have a lot less fat.

And that is the reason one should eat more beef.

To quote Pavel Tsatsouline (and my former sig):

"Eat more eggs; less chickens will be born, and you'll be forced to eat beef"

For further clarification, from a recent Waterbury article:

Testosterone is derived from cholesterol. There's no other way for your body to produce it naturally. So if you're skimping on cholesterol you can be certain you're short-changing one of your body's most powerful muscle-building hormones. Egg whites, petrified chicken breasts, and other foods that are basically void of any cholesterol should be avoided. A carnivorous diet is key to getting enough cholesterol.

'Nuff said. Beef rocks.

Here it is folks.....the official reason why men in society are becoming "de-balled." I'm sure we've all made Dr. Dean Ornish proud though, but let's just forget the fact that he died of leukemia in his 50s. The world epidemic of overpopulation should solve itself with the next generation of "limp dicks." Unless of course 'Big Viagra' starts getting grants from the Federal Gov. to give prescriptions to teenagers.

What exactly is the deal with the link between red meat and cancer?

I eat mostly chicken because it's easiest to prepare and transport in soups and casseroles. I make beef stew occasionally, but by and large beef and fish recipes are difficult to prepare and/or transport.

Good point. Maybe this is what MuyThaiFighter was referring to.

My point is that his blanket statement is not true. There are very lean cuts of red meat and most fish has a high fat content, albeit from Omega 3s. To simply say chicken and fish have less fat than red meat is inaccurate.

For almost 30 years society has been preaching the evils of fat. It is going to take a while for people to get that out of their skulls.
I don't eat enough beef myself. My lunches are either Turkey or ham and diner is chicken and turkey mostly with ground beef thrown in. Occasionally I buy some nice New York strips but alas, my veggie bill keeps me from buying to much of the good beef.

I am looking at remodeling to put a deep freeze in. Then it is all on with a quarter or half side of grass feed beef. Only way to cut the cost.

Steak (both beef and bison) is a major wf protein source for me, followed by salmon, whole eggs, cottage cheese, and lastly turkey breast.

I really wouldn't mind trying bison but its not easy to get over here

I have started eating bison in place of beef and I like it.

(it helps to have a bison herd right down the road)

lets not get crazy here, im a huge red meat eater, 40 -60% of my calories come from beef.

but im not gonna lie

in general, red beef has a higher saturated fat content than both fish and chicken.,

yes you can compare a lean cut of beef to a really fatty part of the chicken and say SEE! chicken is just as fat. but lets get real

in GENERAL, beef contains a higher fat content than chicken and fish. don't know why this is really an argument.

lets compare a very lean cut of beef to one of the fattiest fish at 3.5 oz
Mackerel: 13.8 grams fat
Topside (roast) 11g

mackeral barely beats out topside roast (which no one should eat)
you dont even wanna see the 3.5oz fat content of lean fish

btw lean beef tastes like crap. i eat fatty ass cuts that are marbled so well i can't even see the fat or cut it out (not that i ever do, i just eat the outside fat with the meat)

That's terrible. We can get it pretty easily over here. Helps to have bison farms near you. I think they even carry the hamburger patties at Wal-Mart.

I want to try ostrich, too, but the only farm near me went out of business in 2000. :icon_conf
