Statistical Analysis: All UFC 2017 Fights

Who were the others?
See my response to another user:
I copied down the result of the bout and what weight class it was contested at (444 fights total); copying down the fighters' names in addition to everything else would've been far more work than I would have wanted to do for something as benign as this.

We all know why welterweight finishes went down when the current champ throws 3 punches a fight

Woodley's fights in 2017 accounted for 2.8% of the total fights at Welterweight, so no, that is a false statement.

Note: I excluded fights that ended in No Contest.

I was personally surprised by:
-How active Women's Strawweight was this last year, and how barren Women's Bantamweight is becoming.
-How high Women's Strawweight was in submission percentages compared to the other divisions.
-Flyweight having a higher finish percentage than four other weight classes.
-Welterweight having the lowest finish percentage of all weight classes.

Funny how people can defend a triangle and armbar, but can't defend a RNC with gloves on? WTF? Does people giving up their back when rocked make up for most of those chokes?

What's interesting to note is that despite Men's Flyweight having five times the number of ranked fighters than Women's Strawweight, Men's Flyweight still had five less fights than Women's Strawweight. That tells me the UFC isn't putting forth a concerted and genuine effort into recruiting male Flyweights.

I bet you're correct. I wonder if we will see them start to release some fighters in that division to balance out the roster since they are not booking enough fights to keep them as active.

We can't really make that inference from those numbers, it lacks the proper context. How many of those RNC's came about after a fighter got hurt from strikes? Whereas a triangle choke, the receiver is in top position; too much context is required.

I doubt it; the UFC desperately needs fighters due to how many events they're promoting (39 in 2017, and it's likely to be more in 2018).

There were a total of two punch(es) finishes at Women's Strawweight in 2017; one of them was Namajunas' finish of Joanna. However, Women's Strawweight has the fourth highest submission percentage of all the divisions and more fights last year than all the other women's divisions combined.
Yeah because a.) They're average on the ground and b.) 9/10 a sub is the only way a woman's getting a finish.

Yeah but check out his lifetime title defense rate.......

oh shit that's still at 0.0% too

it's the same as his lifetime loss percentage vs guys under 7ft and 900lbs.

his only losses are to Godzilla and a 8'9 4000lb Nate Diaz.

Based on what? There are plenty of men's divisions with higher submission percentages than Women's Strawweight, does that mean they're average on the ground too?

One thing I love about running the numbers, it absolutely trashed the armchair shit-talk ‘facts’ that usually rule the day around here.

HW had 5 subs last year?

Werdum had 1 and Oliynyk had 2.

Who had the other 2?

I would like to see what percentage of flyweight fighters that miss weight on the scale.

All I know is that 1 submission was an Ezekiel Choke (Oliynyk), 1 submission was an armbar (Werdum), the remaining 3 were Rear-Naked Chokes (Oliynyk, and two other Heavyweights).
