STARFIELD discussion

Just curious where is everyone in the main story so far. I'm still on the the old neighborhood quest. Basically got there and started doing whatever quests I've come across. What's everyone's level currently 22 with alot of crimes on my hands.

I completed the main story right away. Character is at 40 but I might make a new one

So I'm putting my skills into ballistics, pistols and sneaking for early game. I'm level 10.

Are pistols viable? They're fine for some things but I would like a sniper rifle with a big scope...
I’ve got an awesome rare pistol that absolutely melts enemies even far above my level even from long range. I still haven’t found a sniper rifle.

Yeah, but that is how starfield feels with the load screens. That is probably my number 1 complaint with the game. Even the guy who posted that tweet has been a big starfield fan

I heard about it before playing, but I don't think it's a huge deal. It's your typical Bethesda design, where big interiors and fast travel have loading screens. It's just that there is more of those interiors, and that fast travel is a requirement to get around this stupidly large game. However, it's not like the load times are insane or anything. They're like five seconds.

Asking for a seamless, load free experience with this game, is ridiculous. "No Man's Sky" can do it to an extent, because there's not much going on under the hood. There are so many variables at work in any given zone of this game, that it's gonna require them to break it up.

As for complaints, the menu system is a far bigger one to me. Even though I've got a handle on it now, it's still a mess that is probably gonna turn off some folks in the early game.

Pistols are viable. I have an Urban Eagle that does pretty high damage that I use at mid range and a modded Krakken that is full auto and shreds most enemies at close range. Other than that I mainly use shotguns and a hunting rifle.

40 hours in, level 20 and I'm probably halfway through the story. I've spent alot of time exploring and doing side quests.

I wish there was a universal “get out of the menus” button. Keep forgetting if I pushed M for the map I have to push M again to quick exit and not tab or escape

Oh', but there is! I don't know what it is on PC, but if you hold the "B" button on Xbox, it closes everything.

They knew it was a mess, and gave people a "fuck all this shit" button. LOL.

I am being a bit harsh on it, as everything in the menu has a purpose, but man is it ever nightmare to navigate at first.

I'm really trying to like this game but my god it's just so tedious. From the traveling, to the menus, to having to constantly manage your inventory, to sitting through all this flat boring dialogue...honestly that might be my biggest gripe. The game completely lacks that Bethesda quirkyness or comedy. Every NPC so far is just flat delivery of boring forgettable dialogue. They're also constantly talking over each other.

I just upgraded my ship and spent a talent point on the ship "target" thing... it makes a HUUUGE difference. It targets your enemy, zooms in, and slows down time

If you're having problems doing space battles, get this talent
I wouldn’t say I’ve been having problems but I did suspect I was handicapped by not putting points into that. I’ll definitely do that going forward.

I will say the companions in this game are the least favorite of any modern Bethesda game I’ve played. That being said I’ve run into a ton of really unimportant npcs that have some surprisingly smart and witty dialogue. Can’t have it all I guess.

I’ll have to hold tab to see if it works

I'm level 30-ish and have played for 91 hours.

I spent a good chunk of that messing with ships until I finally got the design I want, at least from this profile. The ass needs improvement and I want to hide some of the stuff like fuel. I just need to level up some skills so I can carry more mass, install better engines/reactors/shields etc...

I love the EM weapons on the front, look like headlights. The 4 electron (forget actual name) weapons on the outside eviscerate every shield, while the missiles, along with the electron weapons, take out the hull. I get enemy ships down to super low health before using the EM guns to disable engines for boarding. I'm in the CF, but I can attack CF ships and board them after disabling engines. So long as I don't kill anyone on board, I can loot at will as they still see me as their ally. If I destroy their ship, only then will I get a bounty on my head, must be a bug.

The FS-Defiance (inspired by Star Trek's Defiant). This was the Razorleaf. It's still identified as the Razorleaf in random events by Pirates.

On top of letting you do a walkthrough of the compartments, they really need to let you save your edits as a temp blueprint. Shit can get bananas, takes me back to my lego days.

95+ hrs in, level 76, and every item in my inventory is legendary and modded to the tits! I had the past 2 weeks off work though so I have been playing a bit too much haha. I've only finished 2 factions though and probably have 1/4 of the main story left.

It's amazing how we can spend near identical time in the game and I'm only level 30-ish (maybe 35?).

The ship building ate up quite a bit of time, but I did alot of faction quests. I think I'm halfway through the main quest.

Where did you get so many levels from? Crafting weapon mods/settlements, or just side quests?

The outpost build options are pretty limited/meh so far, as I'm more interested in building settlements over factories. I should focus on the latter for resources. Aesthically it's just not appealing though, but I know that will improve like it did for Fallout 4. I'm afraid of what I could lose, time wise, in that lol

Any of you guys play Sim Settlements for Fallout 4? It's a massive mod that completely overhauls the settlement system. It's like a giant DLC itself.

The maker, King Gath, who I follow on YT, shared his take on Starfield's lackluster outposts. Hopefully he jumps into the mix like he did for FO4. It was basically his full time job, so he'll have $$ incentive.

With Eurogamer's 6/10 review finally being published (the only major gaming website that hadn't released its review yet), the game's critic Metascore looks like it will settle at 84.

Not GOTY material.

Lots of missions, then hunting much higher level animals. I got a sick legendary sniper rifle early in-game and traveled to a lvl 75 system. The amount of exp you get is insane especially if you find a really crowded planet. I also built an outpost to farm for resources and crafted a ton for the exp. Yeah, the outposts are pretty lame, but there is a good variety of things you can do with them to gain steady experience. Otherwise, they're pretty useless.

I never got into the building in FO4. I'd mainly just through up some walls and a roof if I needed a structure built haha.

Yea Xbox store and steam both have it in the high 70's which is a good game.

That's a great looking ship. I've only upgraded the ballistic guns and added some cargo (also upgraded the engines)
