STARFIELD discussion

I picked normal, I’m ok with it. I still die from time to time but don’t feel like I need to constantly quick save to get through areas with tons of enemies. There so many areas that are poorly lit and tons of cover with enemies blasting you from every direction, I can’t imagine it would be very fun if my health was cut in half. I might crank it up for ng+. I am only level 16 though and I don’t even have any powers unlocked so maybe I have yet to discover how overpowered I can get. That’s likely the case I guess.

I guess my weapons and gear are really good for my level. I can handle the damage pretty well unless they bum rushed me 3+ but that's rare and you can always find places to backoff and funnel them. On larger areas you can attack one way and then run around and flank them and they'll still be staring in the direction you originally fired at them so I found myself very aggressively attacking successfully depending on the area.

There are certain details in this game that are really impressive. I found myself in a giant warehouse and i was firing from a higher vantage point through metal stairs. they couldn't hit me well but i was nailing them easily. i don't recall many games that would allow me to fire through the gaps of each steps. Very nice touch.

Another time i shot this pirate and he fell down with a little bit of health and started crawling. shot him one more time to finish him and he collapsed on top on another body and stayed there instead of clipping through. i couldn't help but laugh once i approached to loot the bodies cause it looked like the dude was trying to doggystyle the other one.

Helpful map of New Atlantis, and outpost overlooking the city.

I freaking love this place. The score is the best yet, especially the track for this area, really helps take you to another world. The composer, Inon Zur, has done every Bethesda game since Morrowind I believe, even New Vegas.

Enjoy it while you finally can get your head around the layout, as we know the map isnt worth shit lol

I had no idea you could build this close to a major settlement. According to his reddit post, you can see ships landing. I believe he's still inside the Atlantis tile, so hopefully you get the track playing.

It warms my heart every time I walk out of my ship and Vasco says "Hello, Captain Fuckface. Can I be of any help?"

Haha, if you're as immature as me. Here is the list of all the names he can say. Think I'm actually gonna change my name to Captain Titties.

So I had a week off work and was gonna take a vacation, but fooked my foot up running the very first day off. So I've been stuck at home playing this game religiously, After spending almost 2 days running an outpost farm. I just hit level 65 and I'd say I'm probably only 60% done with the main story, and I've only done 2 of the factions. So easy to get sidetracked haha.

Just now got all my mod research done for weapons and armor, and holy Hell it opens up lots of new weapon variations. Don't sleep on crafting at least for weapons and shipbuilding.

I love when Vasco says my real name. I always use it and roleplay myself in a first playthrough of RPG's like this

I think Codsworth said a bunch of different names, including mine in Fallout 4.

Hoping House Va'ruun is explored more in future DLC.. reminds me slightly of Unitology from Dead Space.

That is quite rich, comparing it to one of the biggest disasters ever released, that was so bad it was pulled from stores, and people were given refunds.

Cyberpunk wishes its big technical issues at launch, were frequent loading screens.
Yeah, but that is how starfield feels with the load screens. That is probably my number 1 complaint with the game. Even the guy who posted that tweet has been a big starfield fan

Jeremy soule was composer for Skyrim I believe.

So I'm putting my skills into ballistics, pistols and sneaking for early game. I'm level 10.

Are pistols viable? They're fine for some things but I would like a sniper rifle with a big scope...

It's really funny how everyone is echoing my experience in the game.

in the last page and half:
- flashlight sucks (yup!)
- are there fuckin' maps for each town instead of randomly running around looking/remembering where the vendors are? (check)
- why are the resources in the lodge storage inaccessible at the upgrade/research tables? (complained about it first).
- guide arrows don't show up or disappear (have to retrack them from time to time).
- awful UI/menus (yup!)
- frustrating start, was always getting lost or can't seem to find what i was looking for. thought about quitting cause i was getting a headache from playing this game (had to switch to behind the toon POV).
- frustrating fast travel issues in the beginning (not intuitive to do this.. sometimes menus are not available and I wasn't sure why).

But in the end I am hooked on this game. Once you settle in a groove it is REALLY enjoyable. I have stubbornly not upgraded my ship (for storage yet) but I will do so soon.

Question:
What difficulty did you all pick? I chose normal but so far it's kinda easy. actually too easy. I found some really good weapons and your toon helper is very powerful. Give him/her an arc welder and they're clearing rooms on their own almost. Shoulda picked the next higher difficulty at least. If I wasn't trying to develop the story/relationship with these toons and need the extra carrying capacity I'd leave them to make it slightly harder.

I'm normal.

Combat isn't hard, but it throws quite a few enemies at you. It's fun but you can slip up.

Ship combat is quite hard to then in my favour. I either start well and mop up, or die, no real in-between.

Stealth is pretty shit, especially with a companion.

i think Pistols + Sneak are great. Someone in a discord I'm in were going that direction and they said they liked it

Just finished up the Crimson Fleet quest line. My character is a goody two shoes with Sarah in tow, so been siding with the UC and limiting casualties at every turn. Which means stealth for a lot, which I hate sneaking around and was getting pretty frustrated.

In the final mission
when you storm The Key, I took great pleasure in laying waste to everyone in my path in the name of morality. Armored spacers and named NPCs in flight suits alike, all got a bullet. Then lording my morals over Delgado while persuading him to turn himself in to look like a hero.
Sarah liked that..... hell yeah she did.

Big fan of that guy, his criticisms reflect a lot of the general negative feedback I've heard about the game. I haven't played Starfield and won't pass any judgement on it, but based off the things I have heard and the bits of gameplay I have seen, I'm going to pass on this one and just wait for Elder Scrolls VI. Maybe if it's on sale at some point and there's enough interesting mods... We'll see
