STARFIELD discussion

Yeah, you picked up too much shit. It's a dumb mechanic in all games, but you have a carry load capacity. Not much you can do, other than upgrade your storage capacity.

There should be a "favorites" or "Quick Menu" command in the inventory screen. Just go to the item you want, and hit that button, and you'll be able to place it on the wheel.

Just keep working your way up the base. I believe he's outside.

I am curious about the guide arrows myself, though. They just seem to randomly show up. There should be a button prompt for it in this game, because it is very easy to get lost inside buildings. The architecture isn't very intuitive in guiding you to the key areas.

It is overwhelming at first, but you'll eventually settle in.

There's a help option in the main menu that is a full game manual and ironically, Bethesda made no attempt to lay anyone know to look there. It explains all of the game mechanics from A to Z.

So far this game sucks.

I'm a miner and my first mission is to raid a pirate base with little ammo or armor and kill robots and a small army??

I can't figure out how to unencumber. So I've stopped picking things up. It doesn't explain how to add things to the quick wheel. Doesn't explain the armor components. I have no idea how to find the crimson fleet captain. The fps controls are terrible. The guide arrows don't show up.

I don't need a lot of handholding but with this many elements it would be nice to have some.

Pretty frustrated.

For a game all about fast travel I've never had such a hard time getting places. I have fast traveled to the wrong location more times in this game than I have in all other games I've ever played combined.

I can't seem to find my way back to the ship dock so I can mod my ship. I took the train but it's not showing that place as an option to travel to.

Microsoft comes across really sketchy. Before the game released news circulated that the game skipped many review outlets and many sites that did get it were Xbox sites. Now that the other outlets got a review code they’re finally finishing the game up and many more mixed reviews are coming out. They wanted as high a score as possible to get more people to play it in the first week. Really unethical

Ok, so I just need to put a new, bigger storage unit in my ship? I've been storing everything in the storage to the left of the cockpit. Its only got like 400 lbs of max storage.
Is it the cargo hold you see when about to sit down in the pilots chair? How do you access this? I can get it to prompt up that it's there but I can't take any action to transfer.

Yeah its to the left of the chair and you gotta look up a little bit then it shows you the option to take and store stuff

Restarted. Went with a character that looks like Amos from expanse. I find it interesting that the first mission with the crimson captain is at an entirely different place than on my first character. That's kind of neat.

Thanks for the help file call-out.

I feel you. I was close to throwing in the towel. I think the game is a mess and does a particularly poor job of explaining anything or helping you get into the game. But I also think once you start to get the hang of it you'll begin to see the game's qualities. I'm not sure I'll play it for 500 hours like Skyrim but it does get better after the slog of those first few hours.

It's really funny how everyone is echoing my experience in the game.

in the last page and half:
- flashlight sucks (yup!)
- are there fuckin' maps for each town instead of randomly running around looking/remembering where the vendors are? (check)
- why are the resources in the lodge storage inaccessible at the upgrade/research tables? (complained about it first).
- guide arrows don't show up or disappear (have to retrack them from time to time).
- awful UI/menus (yup!)
- frustrating start, was always getting lost or can't seem to find what i was looking for. thought about quitting cause i was getting a headache from playing this game (had to switch to behind the toon POV).
- frustrating fast travel issues in the beginning (not intuitive to do this.. sometimes menus are not available and I wasn't sure why).

But in the end I am hooked on this game. Once you settle in a groove it is REALLY enjoyable. I have stubbornly not upgraded my ship (for storage yet) but I will do so soon.

Question:
What difficulty did you all pick? I chose normal but so far it's kinda easy. actually too easy. I found some really good weapons and your toon helper is very powerful. Give him/her an arc welder and they're clearing rooms on their own almost. Shoulda picked the next higher difficulty at least. If I wasn't trying to develop the story/relationship with these toons and need the extra carrying capacity I'd leave them to make it slightly harder.

bro. you should give it a rest. It has its flaws but it's a really good game. it's already an 8.5 in my book and i think the grade will go up after i am done.

not a fan of posters who haven't played and are commenting incessantly on a game they haven't tried earnestly. it's a bit insincere. you're better than this.

Jim Ryan is personally paying me a dollar for every post I make about Starfield on social media. We all got to pay the bills

I picked normal, I’m ok with it. I still die from time to time but don’t feel like I need to constantly quick save to get through areas with tons of enemies. There so many areas that are poorly lit and tons of cover with enemies blasting you from every direction, I can’t imagine it would be very fun if my health was cut in half. I might crank it up for ng+. I am only level 16 though and I don’t even have any powers unlocked so maybe I have yet to discover how overpowered I can get. That’s likely the case I guess.

powers... what powers???

is this a spoiler?...
I guess it could be so I won’t elaborate because you would know what I meant I think. I haven’t even unlocked them yet, just saw randomly saw something about the online.

I'll be honest I started on normal and switched it to easy after a few quests because I seemed to be taking on waves of enemies with very little ammo or health packs. Now that I've got some better weapons and ammo I will increase it back to normal. I like the feeling of starting off weak and becoming more powerful but the amount of enemies they throw at you early on it was actually turning me off of the game.

Started a faction quest line and the amount of doors I need to open (that have loading screens) to get a quest and then complete a quest is annoying. You leave neon do the quest then to turn it back in you lane in neon and go through or 2 or 3 more doors to turn it in. Be nice if it had a fast travel to inside the building to turn the quest in

I probably should play on hard now, I had good RNG and found a legendary Grendel (SMG) that shoots explosive rounds. That along with the *spoilers* just trivialized every single fight. Except for space, I gotta upgrade my space weaponry.

The faction questlines are the best since oblivion.. once you get over the hump of the first 10 hours.

"Normal", but since I suck at shooters, it's more than enough. I usually end up ducking behind shit, and just waiting for the enemies to pop their heads out, camper styles. I really miss VATS. I'm naturally getting a bit better at it, and thankfully the enemy AI is fucking retarded, so it's not too harsh on my limited skills.

So if you use the Razorleaf ship from the Mantis mission sometimes the spacers will jump away when they encounter you
