This may seem like a thicko question, the minimum graphics card says a 1070ti, will a 1070 work ?

I’m the first person to admit I know nowt about PC gaming.

What resolution will you be playing at? At 1080p medium it will average around 29fps according to the timestamp (and that's with a core i7 12700KF), if you use FSR to upscale then you could get more FPS.

Just hooked it back up, it says i7-7700 @ 3.60ghz.

Got it years ago, it’s prob a one legged dinosaur at this stage.

Didn’t post during my lengthy session but my overall impressions so far. My god this game is beautiful, character models still have those weird Bethesda quirks but the environments are breathtaking. Intro is slow but that’s the same for every Bethesda RPG, I’m just super overwhelmed with how massive the game is so far. Going back to a silent protagonist was a good choice I will add. Back to the game. I’ll give further updates after my next session but I love this game so far.

Starfield is good, Starfield is great, I surrender my will as of this date.

Seems to be more appropriate discourse lol

Buying it and it getting my time are two different things

Yeah, I've always wondered why Bethesda can't make a hairstyle that looks good. I get what you mean about the quirks.

I almost feel like Bethesda games occupy this sort of gaming uncanny valley. Where they're trying to make the world feel as authentic as possible, but at the same time it's still a video game and random stuff happens that just screams VIDEO GAME.

I'm wandering around New Atlantis and the scope of it is super impressive and then I talk to someone and the most random shit comes out of their mouth like "Boy, I sure love my girlfriend and don't want her to leave". It makes sense from a video game standpoint but it cracks that authentic immersion.

Likewise , the game systems themselves can't mesh with every decision a player can make. It's why your companion will have the exact same reaction whether you steal an apple or shoot random person in the face. Basically "HEY, not cool, bro".

Anyway, it goes back to what I said earlier. Spotting these cracks are easy if you want to find them. But they still create an incomparably immersive experience if you aren't trying to peek behind the curtain.

Got a handful of hours in the morning and really enjoying it. The only real complaint I have is map navigation. Jumping through menus to get to the proper location and just straight up bad world map.

Hand full of experiences with glitched out AI navigation. Enemies jumping through ceilings is a minor annoyance but was doing a quest and I needed to follow an NPC into a secured area. The NPC got up from her chair and walked in the corner of the room in a small cubby between the wall and a filing cabinet, kicked over a garbage can and proceeded to get stuck in the corner. She kept trying to walk out between kept walking into the walls, cabinet, or getting her path tripped up by the garbage can on the floor. It took a few minutes of nudging her out of the corner before she continued on the right path.

Is the game out already? Thought it came out in a week or two.

Early access. It officially launches on the 6th.
Gotcha.
Does it actually play like fallout games though? Is there VATs?
All I see on Reddit is people building ships and shit which I don’t really care much about.

the game is going to be pretty rough on older hardware. its especially demanding, and dare i say it, unoptimized. especially for all nvidia cards. hopefully they will be able to tweak the engine and release some better drivers to optimize the performance. i mean shit my 4070ti crushes just about everything at 1440p 120+ fps on ultra settings. on this game with the FSR shit off, im barely able to hold 60 outside, and sometimes itll dip into the 50's.

theyre recommending a 2080 for the game, but this is clearly a scam. i have a 2080 in my older pc and i know if i were to run the game on it i would get about the same performance on it as i would on my series x. i'd barely be able to achieve 30fps at 1080p with low-medium settings.

even 3080 users are suffering. they shouldnt even be having to run their games at 1080p, that card is still more than capable for modern gaming, but here they are having to dial down their settings and resolutions just to hit 60 fps.

i think its just badly optimized at this point. i mean for me the game still runs smooth, but i expect alot better than what it is. this isnt some groundbreaking technology they are using here. its still the same bethesda game with a shinier coat of paint, but as far as pc optimization goes, it seems very lacking. i mean shit, for some reason nvidia gpu's are performing up to 30% less in this game then their AMD counterparts, where in every other game the two cards perform nearly identical in terms of pure rasterization. something is definately fucky here, especially on the nvidia end, and hopefully this gets addressed and resolved in the future.

expect a fair bit of backlash next week after most people get their hands on the game, and even people with higher end cards arent achieving anywhere near the performance they would expect out of a game that is recommending a 2080. alot of pc users are going to feel like they were scammed if bethesda doesnt rush some kind of fix out to ease the gpu burden. they are going to notice it right away from the very first minute they start the game.

cant say i'm a little bit disheartened over it, but it is what it is i guess. i just hope they will get their shit together and optimize their game software better. if not, at least implement dlss 3.5 features into it to help make things better. this FSR shit doesnt really help when it makes the textures look like shit, you sacrifice alot of resolution just to try to squeeze out a few extra frames.

i wouldnt recommend this on game on a 1080. at least not right now. if you have pc game pass you may as well try it first just to see how badly you will struggle and whether or not the graphics look decent enough to please you, but youre going to get sub-console performance and it might be a little jarring during areas with lots of enemies or npc's around you. i mean yeah, it might be playable, but even on the brand new top end cards that you pay top dollar for, youre not going to achieve the kind of performance that you would come to expect, and you have no trouble achieving in any other game. the game needs alot more polishing in that department.

I'm having no performance issues with my 3080 at all, feels really smooth, even in a couple of the big battles I got into.

I'm running in 4k everything maxed with FSR 2 applied. I turned off depth of field too. I think have my resolution at 70%. I don't know what FPS I'm getting, but I'll see if I can activate an FPS counter

For those on PC wanting HDR, I followed this guide. New Atlantis looks stunning now, but I'm still not happy with proper implementation not being there, even though it's advertised as such.

I can't believe there's no FOV slider either, and you can't even even change it with a console command, but tje fix is easy.

Not vats, but thankfully the shooting mechanics are the best they've ever done. The gun modding is a ton of fun too. Combat in low gravity scenarios with your jetpack is a blast. I have a shot gun that does double melee damage, it's very gratifying.

There's kind of a vats in space though, as you can target individual systems in battles. I just boarded an enemy for the first time after disabling their ship, and took out their crew, that was awesome!

Sweet. I’m actually excited to play. Got two kids now and barely play games anymore. Been waiting for this one.

if you want to display your fps on screen, you can first try fraps. but it might not work for this game at least not if you run the game in borderless windowed mode. i havent tried.

if you have the steam edition, you can also enable an fps overlay in the steam settings, and it will display in any game you launch through steam

or you can use the windows game bar. hold the windows button + g and it will come up, then just enable the fps under performance, customize it a bit and pin it to your screen. if that doesnt work you have to enable xbox game bar, either through services or through somehow in the control panel. it works for virtually every game or application, full screen or windowed, with no performance hit. i used to use fraps or the rivatuner statistics server through msi afterburner, but sometimes that wouldnt work for games, and sometimes it would just prevent the games from even launching, depending on the game, and the launcher. but the windows game bar fps counter has always worked for me so i tend to use that.

with all that fsr and dynamic resolution off, you'll be getting framerates consistantly in the 40's outside of the menu's. i mean thats playable. if you dont mind the drawbacks from FSR, you could run the game at 4k on high settings with FSR and probably be closer to 60fps most of the time. that would probably be a better tradeoff IMO. you probably wouldnt notice much difference between high - ultra, but the visual difference between FSR on and off will be distinguishable. there is a patch out right now to trick the game into using DLSS, but it doesnt actually improve the framerate, it just uses the dlss supersampling which is way better than AMD's FSR. and apparently theres some bugs that go along with it too.

but still the 3080 is a pretty capable card. i would expect a little better performance out of it. especially out of a bethesda game where our cards will just destroy those games at any setting and resolution. aww hell we even have to lock the game engine to 60 fps just to not break the god damn physics. i mean shit, from all of the tables and chairs in skyrim that i've launched into outer space just by uncapping my framerate and walking around them, i'm probably gonna be flying my ship i days and see some of them spinning around in orbit

and this time we need high end hardware and still have to make some compromises just to achieve the kind of performance we're after. with all of the FSR and dynamic resolution bullshit turned off, 4090 users are struggling around 70-80 fps maxed out at 4k. they would probably expect more out of their cards considering the price they pay, and the performance they get in every other game. there's really nothing special about this one. its just stupidly demanding right now and could probably be optimized a hell of alot more.

give it half a year and i'm sure this game will be in a much better place. at least in the optimization department.

Thanks man

I don't think I've ever used FSR 2.0. I think game devs have to enable it where FSR 1.0 works regardardless. I always found the latter pretty meh, often with terrible artifacts, or some weird smudging. I haven't noticed anything like that here and I'm playing on a 75 inch TV. I did turn off FSR and didn't notice drastic improvement in visuals, but certainly did in performance.

I'm not surprised it's chugging without any upscaling help. Like I mentioned in another post, when I got FO4 on PC a year or so after release, I had just upgraded to a beastly system. The performance was all over the place.

I do wish the game had VATS but at the same time, the shooting is better than ever in a bethesda RPG.

Fallout 4's shooting mechanics were pretty damn good, compared to previous FO games at least, but I still used vats most of the time. I especially loved closing the gap with melee attacks, and seeing heads fly off in slow mo. Did you get that bat with the rocket jets on it? It was so ridiculous, loved it!
