When the major reviewers on the front page giving you less-than-GOTY-level scores are IGN and Gamespot, you know...
{<redford}
I'd love for those big reviewers to be wrong but I have no bias against most of IGN aside from a few reviewers, including Dan Stapleton who reviewed Starfield and also gave Fallout 4 a 9.5 which I loved even though it was admittedly flawed.

This is what I always expected Fallout + Outer Worlds. I enjoyed both (even if Outer Worlds fell off midway) so I plan on picking it up one day when all these top tier AAA titles stop distracting me.

I enjoyed Outer Worlds. I didn't care for some of the sillier aspects of it, but it was a fun, free pick up and play that ate up a good chunk of time. Obsidian usually makes good games.

Dude needs to leave the reviews to his subordinates. It's his second review in 2023-- Star Wars: Jedi Survivor was the only other.

He gave a 7 out of 10 to Vampire Survivors, LOL. Only to follow it up a year later with the glowing praise, "This is the game to play while listening to podcasts" in a mea culpa after he realized the mindless bullet hell thrilled the gamer world.

Outer Worlds was short but sweet. That was 27 hours total for me. The devs of Starfield say after 150 hours of gameplay, and you're not even halfway through the game?!

haha it might be 150 hours if your out there trying to do everything. I'm sticking to the main story and major side quest for this one. I'll veer off here and there but I'm going to try and limit it.

I spent five hours on a planet scanning all resources, ensuring I hit every marker and went spelunking for a bit. I can see how someone would pour hundreds of hours into this. I put close to 200 into the Witcher 3. I think I'll easily do that here.

That's my problem with Bethesda games is I end up putting hours and hours into them and never even beat the main story. Then eventually I just drop it cause I'm done with it and don't want to put another 20 hours into trying to finish the main story. Then when I played FO4 I was committed to finishing the main story and of course my main quest gets bugged and I was never able to finish it.

I experienced that with the Witcher 3 initially. I put the game down for a long time and eventually forced myself to beat the main quest as I kept getting enveloped in the side quests and getting every card in Gwent. I get where you're coming from, lol.

I beat FO4 a couple times. One vanilla, a few with mods. When the mod community turns Starfield into Starwars, I'll be even more invested, lol.

Why are people acting like they’re open to negative criticism in here when reviewers are being discredited because they didn’t like it as much as others.

IGN? They don't really bother me, as I think they've eaten some shit over a very select few reviews, and they mostly line up with the averages, but that doesn't change the reputation that they have among gamers in general. They haven't been taken seriously for a very long time. It didn't just happen with this game. They're practically a meme.

Game Spot, PC Gamer, there aren’t many but anyone who’s not falling in line with an 8+ score is catching ire and being dismissed as a joke.

I'm going to wait I think. Diablo is still fun.
Because it’s better? No console is worth buying over one game. Pay a dollar for PC game pass and just play the shit out of it then unsubscribe
You sound poor.

I bought a PS3 solely because of mgs4.

And I can't believe spiderman 2 is gonna suck so bad.

Its the culture. All the 9 and 10 reviews are being completely dismissed by people like @Zazen and the only thing that matters is the criticisms.

Not sure what the personal insults are for but I just don’t think any video game has been worth 600 bucks

It really feels like anyone with a dissenting opinion is getting torn apart but alright.

How do you know it didn't live up to the expectations you had for it when you haven't even played it? You've been negative this entire time. How are we supposed to engage you when you don't have an actual informed opinion? It isn't as if we can truly delve into aspects of the game with you. At this point, there's really nothing more to discuss. If you want to complain about a game you haven't played, feel free.
I just feel the overall vision of the game and marketing is at odds with what the game actually is. It was hyped up to be this massive universe that’s fully explorable. Turns out there are invisible walls all over the place and nearly all travel is down through fast traveling. Where’s the sense of immersion? That’s what originally sold me on their pitch. It sounded like No man’s sky on a massive budget but now it turns out all these explorable planets aren’t fully explorable and most are just filled with rocks and nothing else. It’s not just me, the Reddit forum is filled with thread after thread of disappointed gamers. If you know anything about Reddit sub forums. The subreddits are usually fanboyish so if it’s hitting them then something is off with the game. Maybe people will have a fun time but best to set expectations because it’s looking more like a 7 than a 10 and I think user scores will reflect that when the hype dies down.

I hope many do because, presumably, it would prove viability of putting AAA+ title for free in game pass less than a week later on the original release date. I don’t give a shit about the console wars but I have really grown to like game pass.

I doubt it because this sort of strategy will only work for certain games. One of Bethesda's biggest games ever can't be compared to the regular AAA+ titles we get. This thing seemed to have sold very well with 200,000+ playing on steam but I doubt most games will ever see that.

I think MS will continue to do this simply because it does help. During the FTC trial they released emails where you could see that the day one AAA was causing MS to lose a lot of money. They were talking about getting rid of that program but Matt Booty pushed back on it.

I can't even imagine how much money MS lost with Halo.

Game Pass is being marketed as day one releases. They’re now charging a premium for that right. I’m sure this will continue with so many people opting in to that charge.
Wasn’t it like 35 bucks or sometime as well? Not even the traditional practice of increasing it by 10 dollars for some extra in game items and few days early access. Some people in the industry including former SIE CEO Shawn Layden say these big AAA games cost too much to make profit on a subscription service. I think it definitely becomes the norm going forward but probably only for their juggernaut titles like this. Who knows though it might extend to a lot more once they see how much cash this is generating.

You also get the first DLC they release also. I'll never participate in this practice and I see the BS they are playing by releasing the game mid week while giving me the option for early access during the weekend.
