STARFIELD discussion

Shooting looks super generic and lame. But it's a Bethesda game so no one is here for engrossing combat, it's the world building, the ability to do whatever you want that makes their games great. I really hope that a fair few planets are really nicely created and interesting.

That’s really the only thing I’m worried about with this game. It’s science fiction fellas! Go all out on the planets. Purple vegetation. Green skies. Crazy shit you dream about. Stop being scared of making it “unrealistic”.

There's just no way this game WON'T be the buggiest EVER. Bethesda can't possibly release a functioning game of such scale and scope.

Pretty typical of a Bethesda release, yeah. I wonder if having planets act as hubs as opposed to one giant interconnected map could make a difference? One of the biggest factors of Bethesda bugs is because of the interactive physics and permanent items, which is insane from a coding perspective. But I dunno if thered be as many items littering the planetscape. I dont see you stocking up on potatoes and chicken legs in this particular game.

Space potatoes and space chicken legs

too lazy to link, but Tom Howard basically indicated this still has the largest hand crafted worlds/cities, and areas, but the 1000 planets are mostly procedurally generated crap to waste time.

And correct me if I'm wrong, they're just using another upgraded version of the same game engine they've been using for 20 years.

I had a thought today. This is a new engine. They can just mod a Starfield/Fallout 5 on the engine. For all we know they have practice fallout planets for the fun of it. I'm predicting an earlier release than expected. Hope to see an Elder Scrolls 6 soon as well. In some yt vids i'm watching, people are talking about ES6 in 4 years and then Starfield 2 coming out 6 years after that. Lol we're preparing for 1.5 decade waits for games. Bethesda fans/gamers should be investing in stocks with that kind of patience.

Well this creation engine 2!!
But looks a lot like creation engine 1 just made for newer systems, and if the rumors are to believed that is what is, with new jank.

It makes me wonder, after seeing the Oblivion-like faces and dialogue in the Starfield gameplay, if 'Creation Engine 2' is completely brand-new engine from the ground-up... or if its just the upgraded old engine.

The trailer itself doesn't look anything special, just a generic shooter imo. But like some said here earlier, you don't really play Bethesda rpgs for their combat mechanics, it's more about the world and freedom to do whatever. Nothing they've said or shown has really killed my vibe other than it looks really gray but Skyrim managed to be a really nice setting despite the gray colors so I guess I'll wait and see.

Can barely tell the difference.

Can barely tell the difference.

They've obviously improved the graphics and animations.

But how they stare at you... its downright disturbing.

Back 17 years ago when Oblivion came out it was a new system of interaction with NPCs with voiced dialogue.... but now? It feels... not just disturbing but also lazy.

They're bragging about how advanced this new game is going to be, but they haven't figured out how to advance NPC interactions past what they were doing nearly two decades ago?

Hell, say what you want about CP2077, but there weren't any complaints with interactions with NPCs, aside from it maybe considered basic.

Dont you think maybe, juuuuust maybe, you're sorta looking for reasons to be critical about something that doesnt really matter? I mean, you want to "advanced NPC interaction"? Well, theyre talking to you, but they also look at you at the same time. I dont really get the complaint. It feels like reaching. I dont really remember much difference in CP 2077 honestly. Did you ever end up playing it?

Boarding a ship, killing everyone on it and making off with said ship like an intergalactic Dread Pirate Roberts confirmed.

"We don't want to put too many limits on what the player is or isn't allowed to do," said Hines. "We love it when players say, 'I wonder what happens if…' and then they try it."

At the time he was talking about stealing items from shops, but the discussion quickly escalated to more serious crimes and having the freedom to play the game the way you want to.

"You could spend thousands of hours doing nothing but ship-building," Hines said, "and [make that your focus] and that's okay." Players could also choose to just explore all the planets, or just follow the main story line for a more guided experience through Starfield. "And no approach is wrong," said Hines.

Hines then imagined a conversation between two players comparing notes about their different experiences during the same quest, with each making totally different decisions that led to different outcomes.

"Oh yeah, I just ran in and stole a ship and shot all of the crew members and took off," said Hines. "Like… you can do that? You can do anything. I think that is a special part of a Bethesda Game Studios game."

"You just gave me some ideas for stealing people's ships, so I appreciate that," said Prince. "That's going to be top of the list to do in Starfield."

most i can find on it is that its the biggest overhaul the engine has had in a while. The original was based off the Gamebryo engine.
