How anyone could like either of those steaming shit piles, is beyond me.
A show of what makes a good film is if you hypothetically take the franchise away, would the film stand up on its own merit.
In the case of all star wars films after the original trilogy, the answer is a big fat no.

*with exception maybe of rogue one.
Rogue One was good. It didn't re-write canon, had good characters, and was filmed well.

As more time passes, I can't fathom how anyone can think the TLJ is anything but complete and utter trash, outside the beautiful cinematography/effects. I tired rewatching it the other day. As soon as Poe started yucking it up with Hux like he was Tony Stark, I was out. Good choice Rian, you fucking idiot.

I am very curious to see if JJ can salvage anything decent from this trilogy, otherwise, I really don't care about the story.

The Knights of Ren could be cool, but that feels like a brand new direction, and detached from the trilogy. It's not like new elements can't be entered, but when they're the most compelling aspect of the final movie, you know your film has big issues.

At this point we should be entering the endgame, and wondering how things will/could be resolved. The problem is that I don't care about the scrubs Rey rescued, and the main rebel cast are completely uninteresting, just as the 1st order is.

My expectations are very low, but hopefully JJ can rekindle the Star Wars magic. I'm approaching this movie as much of a standalone as possible.

Pretty much how I feel.

TLJ is a story and theme over character film. That's why so much feels off or character decisions don't make sense. The themes and story dictate what the characters do when it should be the reverse.

Rey goes from hating Kylo to wanting to "save" him and turns herself into TFO to do this - because the story needs her to.

Poe disobeys Leia's orders because the story needs him to in order for him to fail and learn to be a better leader. Rian Johnson thought his character was too perfect in TFA and so he knocked him down in order to prop him up.

Finn and Rose make the foolish choice of trusting shady guy in prison (Benicio Del Toro) because the story needs them to, in order for them to "fail" and for us to be shocked that the shady looking guy they met in jail turned out to be shady.

Finn is saved by Rose crashing her ship into his because the story needs it, not because it makes sense. We are meant to think Rose saved him from a senseless death. But this is where the story contradicts itself. The story establishes Finn as the authority on how that Death Star tech canon works - so for him to be wrong in thinking he could destroy it by ramming into it just makes him stupid. But then if he was right and that ramming into it would have worked (and saved his friends) then this makes Rose doubly stupid. The movie can't have it both ways - either way you look at it one of them comes off incredibly stupid.

Finn and Rose get caught because they illegally parked on a beach...because the story needed them to get caught so they could meet the shady guy in the jail and then "fail" in order to learn their lesson.

Basically, each major character fails because they are written to be stupid - not by facing challenges.

Don't get me started on the salt planet scene with Finn and Rey. None of it makes sense. How they even arrived there (crash landing through the door, just as it was closing) was enough of a stretch as it was.

This guy breaks down the various flaws with that scene. Timestamped:

What makes you think Abrams is even capable of such a feat? His whole career consists of mediocre movies.

I don't think he can, I'm just curious to see if he will. Rian left him a crazy mess, so I have to give props to JJ for taking it on. There's a lot riding on this film, I hope he knocks it out of the park.

There's a lot riding on this film...
Enumerate these monumental stakes, please, if you would. What are we talking about? Bringing back the fans? THE FUTURE OF THE FRANCHISE IN THE BALANCE?

What does this mean: "a lot?"

Dammit Rigs, settle down with all that shouting, you're going to have another stroke!

There's a big divide among fans, and the franchise took a big hit after the TLJ backlash. It was so shitty, it caused Solo to lose money, a movie I didn't mind. Winning those fans back should be a priority.

I wouldn't say the future of the franchise is at stake, but its box office drawing power, in the foreseeable future, could be severely lessened.

Not when I replied
Yes when I made the post, it was Hamill as skywalker aged as we haven’t seen him yet, older than Jedi but younger than TLJ (even force scene luke TLJ)

When you replied it was Asoka

And it’s back to luke again now.

you mean you're not looking forward to see how rose tico and finn's love story progresses?
<{hfved}>
Their love defys physics.. Literally. After the kiss, they teleported inside the door the first order was trying to get into from the same distance away, and were invisible the whole time.

Those were their force ghosts inside. The real Finn and Rose died right after the kiss.

They subverted my common sense. I'm going to subvert their expectation that I see the next one twice with my kids like I did the last two..

As a credit to the people with actual talent in Hollywood right now, the cinematography and overall look and sound of the movie got me to see it a second time, and after first viewing made me think it might have been decent.. Even though I slept through 20 minutes.

They were dead during the kiss, the kiss was force ghost also, they both died when she rammed into him inside the blast stream, he was already dead, then blast stream killed him we missed that part.

So his ship was headed into the center to stop it, with Finn already dead.

She pointlessly rammed a dead Finn and his ship off target and died herself in the process.

Thanks SJW Rose! Everything you do is pointless!!

You stopped Finn twice bitch when he was getting shit done, first when you tased him, as he was getting in the pod to go find Rey.

Where, he would have wound up on the island.

Luke would have realized that HE is the one the Force was trying to awaken, as Kylo did when they had thier moment when kylo looked at him on the battle field. He could sense it then.

Luke would have sensed he was one of Mace windu’s many grandchildren that were spawned from his roaming the galaxy and bouncing on women and the power and skill he could form him into.

So, if it wasn’t for Rose, not only would a trained Finn with that look in his eye have been standing side by side with a real non force projected Luke on a Crait as a Jedi (padWan at the very least) , she would have been able to crash into his ship, and ruin that plan too because he wouldn’t have been in it in the first place.

Real non force fairly Luke would have picked up that tonka toy mini death star cannon and force thrown that bish across the planet, then started force throwing at-at’s around.

We’d have the real “Force Awakened “ Jedi, and an Alive Luke.

FUCK YOU ROSE TICO!
