Nobody ever talks about Han Solo's other son. He was also being trained by Luke to be a Jedi, but after what happened between Ben and Luke, he stopped hanging around with his brother and realized his life long dream of working in the galactic fashion industry... You may recognize his name... RalphLo Ren

DAAAD!! THIS AIN'T EVEN MY FINAL FORM, DAAAAAD!!

I found another issue I have with this movie.

The time lapse between the movies is so small.

From episode 7 to 8, 2-3 days have passed ... yet in those few days, Finn and Rey have grown into the strongest fighters.

From episode 1 to 2, 20+ years had passed.

From episode 2-3 5+ years had passed ... This leaves a lot of time for training and growth.

I hope Lando and Wedge come back for the 3rd movie. They're the real heroes of the rebellion.

Finn and Rey have grown into the strongest fighters.
What gives you the impression Finn is a strongest fighter? He lost the heads up duel against Phasma, but got lucky he didn't fall to his death and Rose laid down distracting fire.

I mean aside from being a Black guy still alive in a major motion picture unless that was what you meant exactly.

He destroyed Phasma twice.

I like how she's slowly crouching down to emphasize how tall he is.

I liked THE SHAPE OF WATER, but not as much as THE LAST JEDI.
The Last Jedi ruined the Star Wars trilogy. Shape of Water was weird but was a better made film by far.

Rose would also be enamoured by Lando, being a hero and all, but would quickly slap the misogyny out of his stash when he makes a sexist comment while reminiscing about Leia. A new strong/badass female pilot (pink haired lesbian with tattoos this time) would be Wedges ace student who has to rescue Poe after his toxic masculinity gets him in trouble.

Watched it again on a date. She loved it, I just went for the popcorn. Star wars was cool but I dunno what this movie was, but I do know it wasn't for me.
Everybody I saw it with likes it as well. My 10, almost 11 year old saw it twice, and started to notice some things on second viewing.

Well that's kind of unrelated to your original statement, though. Here's what you said:

I would agree that parts of TLJ do feel like they have the weight to measure up to the original films but that these elements don't get enough focus or commited to fully and ultimately it doesn't actually move the plot forward much, at least in terms of the positions of its lead characters.

You were speaking about moving the plot forward, not whether or not the characters' internal lives are more interesting to you.

The thing is, the events in TLJ do set the stage for new plot developments.

Consider the fact that Rey is now recognized as a Jedi, who is also in possession of the Jedi texts. Well that means she could now potentially establish a new Jedi order which has HUGE plot ramifications. Because of that series of events in TLJ, things can now happen in Ep IX that could not happen before.

Or consider that Kylo has killed Snoke and is now in full control of the First Order. Again, that means a lot in terms of where the story goes from here. No longer is he some young apprentice under another's control; he is now the Supreme Leader.

I'll agree with Finn though. Finn is just Finn. I think he's more of a . . . I dunno, sidekick character doesn't seem like the right description, but he's not a leader like Rey and Poe are.
Rey is recognized by a Jedi? By whom?
Lol how is she going to legitimately establish a Jedi order? She got like 2, 9 minute "lessons". She barely knows what a Jedi is, and she's going to teach others? From books?!? TLJ is so horrendously written.
Now that Luke is dead, Rey has no choice in the next movie to continue getting magically stronger because there is now no one around to teach her.

Kylo is now the leader....and so what? What possible interesting thing could he want at this point? To rule the galaxy? Destroy the rebels? There is nothing interesting here.
He and Rey must fight again, and she either kills him or saves him.

I didn't like TFA, but i left that movie with a ton more questions than when i left TLJ.
Finn COULD have been interesting. A stormtrooper turned rebel? How do you have that and waste it so epically? This guy starts the movie off being sickened by the violence of killing innocents. He could have been a leader and a hero, a complex character trying to redeem himself, free his "brother and sister" troopers...or be conflicted about fighting them...battle in his mind about the ideologies the empire put in his mind...there is a ton that could have been done..instead we got casino planet and camel dog racing..
This entire series is so awful the more i think about it and what it could have been

This movie wasnt nearly as bad as die hard s make it out to be. All of these films have had issues but this one was at least filled with beautiful worlds and scenes. Loved the red salt planet scenes, and the casino world was cool. It lacked some character development in Laura Drn and that Chubby Asian. And I still don’t like Fin, but Rey and Kylo have developed pretty nicely and the red throne room was amazing.

The aliens in the casino world were such caricatures. They looked like the monopoly man.

It was so lame.

The Red Throne room was pretty "metal" looking. I liked it. They should have done more with Snoke and ... yeah, this movie had lots of potential.

I just think that if you look at the originals, a lot of the same things could be said. Agree with Snoke...that scene could have made him more badass.

Some of the characters in the casino were much better than Lucas characters. Truth.
