If you have seen STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI, how would you rate it?

I'm a newer fan who didn't grow up with Star Wars but started watching 1-6 as a teen. What I think about the original trilogy as someone young:

A New Hope: Fun adventure with memorable characters. I can see why audiences fell in love with this movie in 1977. Not a badass movie, but a timeless adventure. 9.5/10
Empire: Holy shit this movie was good. Best part was Luke vs Vader. 10/10
Return of the Jedi: This is where the trilogy fell flat for me. I liked the beginning, but once we got to the Ewok planet I lost interest. Great ending, though. 7/10
Average: 8.8/10

As for the prequels and newer movies:

Phantom Menance: LOL this did not age well at all. So boring except for the Darth Maul fight. 3/10
Clones: Nothing about this film captivated me except Anakin talking about killing the Tuskins. 2/10
Revenge of the Sith: Has a lot of good parts (Yoda/ Emperor, Order 66, the dragged out but emotional Anakin/ Obi-Wan fight). Still too much cheese, though. 6/10
Average: 3.7/10

Force Awakens: Copy of A New Hope but I liked Rey and Finn as characters, and the mystery of Luke's disappearance keeps it interesting throughout. 8/10
The Last Jedi: Rey/ Kylo/ Luke stuff is incredible (9/10), but the Finn/Rose/Poe stuff is disgustingly bad (1/10, except for the kamikaze scene). 5/10 from averaging them out.
Average so far: 6.5/10

The prequels were meme-worthy, while the newer movies are more meh and forgettable. A worse fate, I think.

Thats because you likely grew up in a proper household, you built tree forts, and understand sarcasm.

Joking but you and I have similar opinions of each episode. I think we could drink at least one beer together.

I couldn't even focus on the movie because every time there was a serious tone developing, they had to throw a shitty joke in there. I was less disappointed with Phantom Menace than I was this. At least that movie had Liam Neeson and Ewan to give it some redeeming acting

I can't wait to see short-round and Finn's love life develop. And some more crying too please. That always helps an action movie.

I'm ok with taking the franchise in a new direction, even with Snoke being killed, Kylo evolving into the character he has become, Luke doing one last deed and Rey being as powerful as she is. After all, JJ set up the story with some interesting new characters and as the theme of the movie told us, out with the old, in with the new. Hell, I don't even care about the mindless pandering going on, that is current events my friends and one day we'll look back on all this and yearn for these days due to current events in the future.

What I do feel cheated about, is that more time could have been spent on the most interesting characters, especially when you consider how much foreshadowing, dream sequences and flashbacks went in to TFA and were made to seem important and an integral part of the story. There is no way I am alone in wanting more story telling on Snoke, dead or alive, Rey's lineage and why her power is so great, and Kylo's ability to be such a strong force user that he was able to fool Snoke.
Star wars without depth and lore isn't star wars. There's no longer that magicical feeling. This trilogy feels so empty and lifeless.

It's strange that strong female characters are too much strain on the imagination to suspend disbelief in a movie about Space Ninjas.

Do you not understand the concept of shitty writing?

man I actually feel for him pretty hard here...

he got a bunch of flack for whatever fucking reason for not really being in TFA

then he's portraying a version of Luke he doesnt agree with...the character that MADE his career, that he is synonymous with from now until eternity.... that would be really fucking hard to portray someone you are identified as, in a way you completely/whole-heartedly disagree with....

I thought the same thing. But like he says, it's not the george lucas Luke, its the rian johnson luke. It's just a movie and life goes on.

But it sucks for him to go out that way. I would've liked to see a lot more Mark Hamill. Not that he's this great actor, just that he did a good job this time around and i think he deserved more of an arc.

Not so much about the SJW stuff people keep complaining about or over the top feminism.

The movies are just bad and poorly written and this last one was, in the words of homer simpsons, just a bunch of stuff that happened.

Its bothering me reading people say thing like "I'm glad she's not a skywalker" or "I'm glad she's a nobody and that any random can use the force"

Y'all do know there's been tons of Jedis not related to the skywalker line right?

Random broom kid at the end shouldn't come as a big reveal.

Now if Rian was trying to convey that when Luke died, his force energy was released in the galaxy allowing for more people to become in touch with the force, well he did a crap job.

I think he says that because he has to. Somewhere in his contract being don't talk a bunch of shit. Because what I am hearing is a big fuck you rian, you destroyed my character.

Easy for us to say it's a movie life goes on. Hamil's life has been pretty much him being Luke Skywalker. Now he has to conclude Luke with a shitty send off in a manner that doesn't even fit his character

Ironically of course we got an entire trilogy on Vader's turn yet as far as the original films go I don't think it ever really needed the detail. Kylo though is a very different character, Vader is basically there to play off of Luke, the motivation for his original turn doesn't really matter. Kylo on the other hand is a character driving the story with his own choices, he needs a proper motivation.

I mean surely its not that difficult? I can think of a lot of potential reasons, maybe Kylo loses a sister to the conflict(perhaps secretly killed by Snoke) and feels he needs more power to save others and bring order?

This film does really highlight what a dumb move belittling Kylo at the end of the first film was as well. It should have been Rey and Finn working together barely escaping with their lives. Having him being injuried was a really weak getout, something Abrams included to give fans an excuse but which he doesn't even comit to himself, Kylo doesn't fight like he's injuried and doesn't lose because he's injuried, Rey is simply better.
Yeah, we get 30 seconds of Kylo's turn & several hours of vader's turn. Funny when you think of it that way. Like you said, Vader didn't even need an explanation... but Kylo's sure does.

I can't say that it's a dumb move with the belittlement of Kylo until I see the whole story... so to me it's a bit too soon to call it like that. Perhaps the only purpose of it was to show a reason why Kylo would kill Snoke. If everything was gumdrops & roses between them then it wouldn't make sense... however testing his ego to the full extent is a sure fire understandable reason why Kylo would snap & kill the f*cker.

I don't know that it's so crystal clear that Rey wins "because she's better" in TFA against Kylo. Main point being that Kylo wanted to recruit her... Not kill her. Light sabers are dangerous... & so he was only sparring. Also, hey... an injury is pretty hard to deal with... especially one that leaks blood all the way down your trench coat from your body through many layers of clothing.

Good point on Vader's turn not needing an explanation.. However that was a sub-plot. I found it fascinating the time & planning Palp put into becoming emporer... & all in a completely legal way. lol... he punked the Jedi & the Senate all at once... f*cking brilliant. I absolutely love the plot of the pre-quils regarding Palp's rise to power. So you obviously gotta have the Vader story since its in the same timeline... but it's far from the most intriguing story of the prequils. I also loved Vader's story too by the way... just mentioning all that because I'm a bit of a champion of the prequils here on Sherdog, & I always strive to make sure they are seen in the proper light... imo.

Mark Hammil is the one that said "It's just a movie," not me.

I found it annoying how Princess Leia told admiral Akbar where he should position the ship to get out of range of the first orders cannons. Like wtf admiral Akbar wouldn't know the capabilities of his own and enemy ships. The dude that has been in charge of the rebel fleet needs to be told what to do.

Wanna be edgy and diversify everything okay no problem but be fucking realistic and write the characters properly.

You are not diversifying anything but just adding sjw do you elements. Diversify the fucking writing and have the characters be believable. Every time some :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: writer talks about diversity you can tell the character is written by some white beta male with some useless art degree.

You're making a mountain out of a molehill and are deliberately looking to scream SJW at any slight opportunity.

Leia is 10,000,000 times more popular than Ackbar. She's a princess that can use the force and was instrumental in the rise of the rebellion.

It makes perfect sense that she's ackbars boss.

Within the fiction, the Sith is a difficult outfit to join. There's ALWAYS only two. They know that coming in. They know that SOMEONE's gonna get betrayed. It's like, "Why am I joining this .... ?" I always laughed at the idea. "AND I have to pay dues?"

The rule of 2 has exceptions.

Even during phantom menace Plagueis, Palpatine and Maul are all Sith.

Nope you are just an idiot. I am calling out shitty writing. Totally fine with the message.

Let me break it down for you. Admiral Akbar is the expert in regards to the rebel fleet, he is the guy that is suppose to know the ins and outs of fucking galactic space battles. Princess Leia is in charge but nowhere has she showed that she knows how to coordinate space battles, hence why she is general and not admiral.

THERE'S A DARTH PALESTINE?

Wait, you mean Palpatine. Sorry. I almost had a jihad on my hands there.

That was a weird auto correct. Lol

But yeah basically the rule has some exceptions. And In the olden days there were thousands of Sith

That's interesting. Sith and Dark Jedi are not same-same, right?

The way I understood it was there are only two Sith, ON PAPER, but there's always a few more who are in the mix -- either waiting to assume a position or fooled into thinking he's already the number two. Like Christopher Lee THOUGHT he was the second Sith but Palpatine was grooming Anakin instead, type of deal.
