Anyone else think it was completely absurd all the work that went into making the casino scene was barely even used.

I don't understand how they allowed thst to happen. The detail of that scene was intense and labor intensive but you barely saw it. They spent more time in the stables than the casino


How do they justify something like that to Disney?

Heard a lot of mixed feelings about the film. Some of my friends really didn't like it, but I really enjoyed it, as I enjoyed the last two films of the new, new era.

The pacing was a little annoying, with a quick opening, slow first act, and then hitting the pedals and not letting up until the end.

Didn't dig the Rose character, at all. Found her to be annoying and she made otherwise tense scenes, feel trivial and silly. The movie did not really need her.

The best scene of the movie, for me, was the Rey/Kylo Ren/Snoke fight scene. Really entertaining.

Based on the sheer amount of fun I got out of this movie, I'm rating it 8/10.

I agree (though I am one of the few that liked Rose and thought that whole subplot served an important purpose). If you take it in as a sci-fi movie and not a "star wars" movie, it hits all the marks. Still has its flaws, but it's a cohesive unit, it creates tension, has complex characters with interesting tests, is fantastic visually, and most importantly, every subplot eventually pays off, even if you feel like it is wandering while you're in the middle of it, in the end it keeps its eye on the ball. I said before I think it is like an old muscle car that groans and sputters a bit when you first start it and run it for a few miles, but then it hums and chirps when you want it to, may not corner too well but damn it's a great ride. The flaws do not detract enough to keep it from being really entertaining, imo. Just strap in and enjoy.

Now, as an sw fan, I completely get the anger and disappointment. Rian basically said "get over yourselves, nerds, this is what we're doing and this is what star wars is now". Snoke don't matter, the villain is Kylo. Saber battles aren't the point, watch Luke perform a force projection hari-kari and save the rebels. If a lot of die hards don't like that it's understandable. Very intersting choices were made in this episode and I love that shit.

My guess is that Disney knows that Rian Johnson is the only person in Hollywood that won't have a sexual harassment claim against him so he pretty much runs the town now.

I'm just messing with you. If you liked it more power to you. For me, personally, I started growing more and more frustrated with each scene. I though the design of the location was fantastic, but every single minute of that arch felt tacked-on and pointless. I would have much preferred 30 minutes spent doing just about anything else.

Picking up Benicio (who is a great new character), learning the rebels and new order alike are buying weapons from the same profiteers, the kid with the force, and the message the movie wants to achieve (agree or disagree), all made it work for me. But I'll check back in after rewatching. A lot of good posters are in here disagreeing with my thoughts so I don't discount the possibility that I was just hyped to see it and willing to overlook anything.

Man....i just can't wrap my mind around this.
Ive heard multiple people say similar things...amd i canf understand how "interesting choices" = good choices
A lot of things happened that i didnt think would. ..and most of them were not good. Im not understanding how being not what you expected = good.

I am not a SW nerd at all. I just watched the movies about 4 years ago...and i have only seen 1 of the original ones in full.
So as a casual fan, Luke wrecking shit > Luke force projection hara-kiri.
That's just a no brainer.

And Rose...jesus...i really wish i could understand the good, or point you saw in that character. She was a complete waste of time.

See I feel they dropped the ball hard with Del Toro, should have made him much more important. Instead we get a pointless subplot with fin and ole girl accomplishing nothing. I kept expecting them to pull something out of their ass with Del Toro.

In my very humble opinion someone like Johnson should spend more time honoring that legacy than trying to be the guy that told his own story. I can see how you brought in Lucas because he's cited in the quote, but I feel like you're referring to Lucas wanting to make the Prequels enjoyable, whereas Johnson's referring more to the OT being a labor of love and vision.

If they would've let Luke train her and showed Snoke and Kylo's relationship the movie would've been better. Cutting the casino scene compeltely or making it a good plot device, rather than a silly one. Poe could've led them on the side quest detailing his natural leadership abilities over being Looked at as a pilot (granted the best in resistance) who blows things up.

You could've had Phasma on their tales the entire time adding more to her character as well.

Even keep the same ending but let Luke live until the next movie. Would've been the better route imo. Killing Luke was meaningless. And I still say he should've destroyed all the Walkers on the screen with the force. Really showing the exertion of it all and the command he has on the force.

i think the real twist would've been to let Luke live for all 3 trilogies and killing off everyone else. No one would predict that.

A few plot changes and the movie would be incredible imo. The Snoke throne room scene was done extremely well but would've had more gravitas if Rey was trained. She still would've left with the tough decision at the end showing her walking the balance between light and dark.

I had troubles trying to right exactly what i was thinking ,

Lucas wanted to give the fans what they wanted in his story, he just wasn’t right all the time. Take for example the re edits of the originals. The original versions are better by a lot of fan standards, but they had Lucas wife and others keeping the silly ness at a minimum.

The first screening of Star Wars was terrible apparently and they didn’t get the green light to show it, it had to have rewrites and reshoots to be great.

We can only speculate that the original screening of Star Wars looked more like the prequels or the stupid ass new versions on the originals.

But forget about the silly ness, Rian went off on his own vision of Luke for self serving purposes.

Lucas has always said that the original 3 trilogies were the story of the Skywalker family, and other movies and offshoots would tell other stories.

Rian has his own trilogy coming up to tell his own stories, why fuck with this one so much. Just let it go for one damn movie but know had to take Luke in a new direction and out of it to give more room for rose time.

Where you are right now is about where I was when the Prequels came out -- and for me it's doubly weird in that the Prequels somehow simultaneously got worse with each attempt but PHANTOM MENACE is still the shittiest movie of all time at the same time (not sure how that happened, but it probably has something do with the number of parsecs involved) -- so I totally understand the sentiment.

I wish Lucas had done 7-9 and left 1-3 to mystery.

Lucas had some interesting ideas for 7-9, but luke still had the same “lukeness” to him.

You can replace Kylo with Anakin Solo and there was also Ben Skywalker in reys place.

I guarantee Lucas would have had Rey be either a Skywalker or a kenobi.

I think he wanted her to be a kenobi personally and jj did too, there is so much that pulls that way.
