I'd ask, what's with the hard on for the Star Trek reboot? That was way more guilty of fucking with canon for no good reason, than TLJ did. Actually, the latter part has yet to be seen, as JJ Abrams has the ability to colossally fuck up Episode 9 by pandering to the audience and doing stupid shit like, "Well actually, Rey was the daughter of (insert whoever would generate the most superficial fan service)."
Makes more sense than her being more powerful than everyone with 0 training. Oh wait she sat on a rock with luke for 20 minutes. Give me a fucking break.

Star Trek 2009 > force awakens > into darkness > mission impossible 3 > Looper > last Jedi

Abrams is clearly a better director than Johnson

Come at me bros

What's with everyone's hard on for looper anyway? Did not enjoy it that much. Very interesting concept, made kinda boring and cheesy.

<{1-17}>

JJ Trek is abysmal. Possibly worse than TLJ imo.

Firstly, isn't Star trek 2009 set in an alternate universe - therefore keeping the entire star trek canon intact?
Secondly, I never had more than a passing interest in star trek so I don't care anyway. The movie was entertaining and thrilling with great characters, and humour.

The main gripe (for me) with TLJ is not that the characters went in an unexpected direction (it doesn't bother me that Rey doesn't have a lineage) its not a lack of abundance of fan service either, it's simply that the movie is a confused mess which doesn't make sense at all, for several major reasons which I mentioned in my previous post, and more.
And for what it's worth, I never really nitpick on movies for "plotholes", in fact I find that many posters on here are overly pedantic about plot holes and don't give a movie enough leeway ...but TLJ just doesn't make sense, either on it's own or (especially) as part of an established universe.
Yeah the JJverse movies are now called the Kelvin timeline. When Paramount was restructured, the TV rights and old movie rights went to CBS, and the current movie rights went to Paramount film.

Dude, it's comic book shit. She has some force potential, and it's all fake and ridiculous if you didn't notice.. Maybe your head is more covered than ass than theirs.. Maybe taking these movies so seriously is ass.

I was mad when I first saw it as well at some things. Still think they missed multiple opportunities to make this a 9/10, like the critics thought, instead of a 6-7.5 Like I believe it was.

7.5 is being very generous. They fucked up all the characters, most of the story was crap, and they kind of ruined the third one so yeah 7.5 is a good movie. This was not a good movie.

The Star Trek reboot disregarded canon, only to end up rehashing the same old stories again, which was its problem. Let's wipe the slate clean and piss off fans only to follow up with another version of The Wrath of Khan. Fuck off with that bullshit, JJ Abrams is an overrated hack.

Those sound like legit gripes but I feel as though the new Star trek movies were made for people like me who aren't fans of the previous material, or just have a minor interest in them (understandably so given the poor box office returns of previous movies).

I didn't have much prior investment into the franchise and enjoyed the film in isolation because of the reasons I mentioned above - basically it's a really good film.

I've never seen wrath of Khan...the only ST movies I've seen were the 3 new ones and the one where Tom Hardy plays Picard.

Edit: a lot of people say that the new Star trek 2009 was much closer to a star wars movie and not for trekkies at all, which I suppose is fair and maybe why I enjoyed it more.

The elements of what people seem to hate are actually what I liked about this movie. I liked that it smashed the pedestals that the audience places some of these characters on. Luke shows flaws and he himself, in his initial shame and recluse, tries to make realistic some of the hero worship and romantic preconcieved notions that people had of him. He eventually finds the strength to crawl out of his rut and in some ways, meet the expectations people had of him, but not in a grandiose manner where he bitch slaps his nephew down and destroys a squad of AT-ATs. He does it with minimal defense, almost non-violence, thus becoming a symbol of hope yet again. My only major gripe with Luke's portrayal is the brief temptation to murder Ben Solo in his sleep; that was definitely from left field.

As for Rey's Mary Sue tendencies, to me, it goes to show that lineages shouldn't matter, as if one particular bloodline has a monopoly on the force and there should be some kind of force monarchy. It can be anyone.

Just thought of a big plot hole: how did Benicio Del Toro betray the Resistance’s plans to the First Order when he shouldn’t have even known about the plan? Finn and Rose didn’t know about the plan to evacuate so...

<{vega}>

Whenever there is a plot hole in fantasy stories = a wizard did it

What I have read from other fans who enjoyed the TLJ is essentially, stop asking questions. Take it for what it is. Right, I got that. I have been watching movies for a long time, when there's a 3 titted girl in Total Recall, I don't ask questions, enjoy the tits and move on.

But.

It's Star Wars, I have watched the OT probably 30+ times, 1-3, easily 10-15. I read forums, I bought an Xbox specifically for Knights of the Old Republic. I am grown man and I watch the cartoons with as much interest as my kids! The point is not all fans can enjoy it at face value.

I know 1-3 and 4-6 had some plot holes but I felt like I could deal with them more easily.
I say, don't keep asking questions to which you already received answers to but didn't line up with your expectations. There are interesting questions and discussions to be had; it's just evolved and become more complex than black hats versus white hats.

I think the betrayal is more of a case of, "Hey, we were planning to steal your shit, but since you're clearly more interested my new buddies than you are interested in me, I'll throw them under the bus for the right price."

Shit, you're right.

Luke should have immediately piggy-backed Rey while she ran through a swamp and force moved rocks. Only then would she be ready to whoop Kylo Ren's ass even harder than before.

Thank you.

I find it hilarious that people whine about Rey being an unbeatable "Mary Sue", and then whine when Luke isn't an unbeatable "Gary Stu".

Luke was a boring, bland character with no flaws in the OT. I'm glad this was fixed and he was actually portrayed as a human being.

No, I was specifically referring to Hux saying “so he was telling the truth” about the convoy of evacuation ships. I didn’t understand how he could have told Hux about it, but someone else itt mentioned that Poe told Finn about it and BDT overheard their conversation, explaining away what I had mistakenly thought was a blatant plot hole.

That doesn’t make any fucking sense. Rey being a Mary Sue has to do with her power notwithstanding a lack of any training. People wanting Luke to be the next Mace Windu has to do with him being a Jedi for decades, his lineage and his access to the ancient Jedi texts.

Seeing it through less serious fans eyes helped. I'm going to level off at around 7, and yes. Maybe that's generous.

One bloodline?
Yoda had the force.
Palpatine had the force.
Mace Windu had the force.
Dooku, Maul, all those characters in AOTC, etc.

Such a silly excuse to justify a disappointing flick.

She shouldnt had bested him the first time.

Look, i get it, you like that the skywalker blood line is tired. So rey comes in and is just better.

No sense training then. No sense in any sort of struggle, development, challenge, she's just better.

sounds like a fun movie

Yah i could not take that post seriously so i skipped his ass.

im so fucking sick of the bullshit SJW narrative anti-Trump bullshit.

also fuck Leia surviving space. Only good thing was Luke pulling the insane Jedi mind trick.

bullshit dialogue trying to be funny, its pathetic.

I gave it a 6.

Also who was Snopes? like wtf. I wanted some backstory.
