Movies STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS v.9 (Dragonlord's Review)

The frustrating thing for me is that I really enjoyed the story, and the quality of the animation was excellent, I just didn't like the "marionette" style. The movement was so awkward, when anyone walked you looked for the strings, like Thunderbirds, which was never really my thing.

I love all the Sith stories, though, it's really fleshing out the universe for me.

the animation style is ok for me - i would have preferred an animatrix style to it personally but either way it worked.

have the last 4 viewable episodes now and just finished reading the sons of dathomir comic - interesting indeed. i'll have to get the 2 novels as well now.

I'm watching them in HD now and I'm blown away by the use of light and color. The light sabers look insanely good.

Also, even though I've criticized the movement, some of the action is insane.

Ventress with the multiple force chokes had me almost jumping from my chair.

Also, why ppl dont like Kylo Ren? Well I actually really like the idea on paper. A Dark Sider feeling conflicted and drawn to the light side. Thats actually a brilliant and not before seen idea.

There's literally nothing brilliant about it. Our generation was filled with men who tried their best to be virtuous in spite of overwhelming power of the evil that resided inside them. It was a constant battle which some of our heroes lost and usually ended up feeling guilty for letting their dark side corrupting them to the point of changing their destiny. We were fighting against a much more powerful opponent - the destructive side of our nature.

Kylo Ren, on the other hand, is a perfect reflection of today's spoiled generation that thinks morality is something that could be likened to accessory in the mosaic of personality. To them, it's a fad, a way to express their "individuality", which they seriously lack and therefore desperately seek to assert it. He is basically a good guy that's trying his best to be bad. He is trying to be bad, which was and is a very easy thing to be since it never took any effort to achieve it, quite the opposite. All it ever took is to hand over your soul to your basic instincts.

It's pathetic and not rooted in reality.

Yea all James Cameron's SciFi sequels have sucked so far, no reason to be excited for this.

I question the judgment of Cameron considering he named that rare ore "unobtainium"... And that's just one of the stupid things I didn't like about Avatar. (their were many)

Makes me think James had gone all George Lucas on us.

Avatar was made purely to sell the tech of 3d on the public, as well as introduce them to having to pay 5 bucks more for that shitty tech to watch a movie now.

6. Story is a retread: Sure there's a lot of homages in the story and it could've been more original in parts. However Ren is an entirely new type of villain, Finn is a new type of character. Seeing X-wings fighting on a planet is new.New aliens were introduced, new monsters, new ships, new weapons. It's not as if there wasn't anything original in the entire movie. Plus I enjoyed the new super saiyan death star.

Yes it's a retread of the story. It felt like Kenny Florian took crib notes from ANH and ROTJ and wrote the script. Movie starts with a Darth Vader like character searching for a droid containing important info who brefriends the protagonist on a desert planet. Add in the father-son story line straight out of ROTJ and a Death Star with a singular weakness that can be only exploited with a fighter.

If Lord of the Rings 4 comes out and it starts out with a Hobbit who befriends a wizard and then has to go on a journey to throw the ring in a volcano im calling it what it is.

this series has made me a much bigger fan of the star wars universe. i love reading, don't have the time to read as much as i'd like so 20-30 minute shows fleshing the entire universe out would be the best thing ever for me.

i'll get to reading those novels but with so many kids in the house, you dont get time for that much alone time.

I read several Star Wars novels back in the day, Splinter, the Zahn books etc, but it's been decades.

It's a valid criticism that the movie could have been more original. It's a bit of a stretch for people to say that makes it a 5/10 movie when everything was executed so well. It's also nonsensical when people are criticizing the new villain for not being more like Vader. Do you want new characters or not?

I think the parallels drawn with the original trilogy was a way for the writers to bring the franchise " back home" so to speak, and to better times before Lucas went full potato with the prequels.

I didn't think it was that low of a rating and I enjoyed it but I question on how it translates when I watch it at home on a second viewing. Im not going to have the aide of a giant 3D IMAX screen and sound system to give me that amusement ride like experience on something so visually stunning.

Well when they are basically ripping multiple plot elements from the original series, why not at least keep the coolest one? But it's not even that to be honest. Kylo Ren's character was portrayed as basically Vader like at the start(he stops Poe's blaster in mid air which was actually very cool) and next thing I know he's having a light saber battle with a guy who could have starred in Good Burger and just lost steam throughout the movie.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it stands up on second viewing.

Unobtanium wasn't coined by Cameron. It's a scientific concept from the 50s, used to quickly convey an antagonistic motivation. You don't have to like it, though.

Different = better? Maybe people wanted another Vader? I know it may sound so obvious and simple, but maybe that's just what they wanted?

I think the name was too on the nose for what it was representing. It would be like Jurassic world naming a dinosaur, "evilsaurus". (Which wouldn't surprise me given how piss poor Jurassic world was written)

Your standards are low.

Sadly you are not alone.
I'm not a movie buff. I watch very few movies compared to most people, honestly, and I like different movies for different reasons. This movie did everything i wanted it to do, and more, and I feel confident going into the next in the series that things are going to get even better.

I'm happier and having more fun than you, with a family, no less. Peace out, Grumpy Cat.

Oh...ok blissfully ignorant. I too have a family and am happy as well! Thankfully my enjoyment in life wasn't hinged on the success of Star Wars!

LOL.

Not sure if you are aware, but the animation style was intentionally made to look like the Thunderbirds.
