It was pretty good. I wish it wasn't asynchronous a rehash plot, but I enjoyed it.

Glad to say I was completely wrong about Finn based on the trailers. He is a great character.

A New Hope could have been adapted to medieval times and still been a hit. In fact much of its story arch is borrowed from medieval mythos. The Hobbit movies didn't suck because Lord of the Rings had been done before, they sucked because they are bad movies.

If they really wanted to ripoff the Death Star then thats fine. But if you are going to then atleast make it decent. You could copy the original even and still give people goose bumps. Did they do that? No. This was a mess from both a story telling and cinematography perspective.

This movie lacked emotion and suspense. It doesn't have to be set in an original universe to do that. This is why no one can address my critical comparison of both Death Stars. I even stated that the duel with Maul in the Phantom Menace is better than anything in this new movie. The Phantom Menace is shit but even that at least had a decent and iconic scene. If George Lucas could get lucky with an iconic scene in 1999 whey cannot Disney make an iconic Starwars today?

If you're going to write a sequel to the Odyssey or Return of the King then you better do a damn good job. If you have a mediocre performance then you deserve the criticism. Just 'okay' really isnt good enough, especially when the whole hype around this movie consisted of bringing back what made the originals special. You know why they were special? Not because of X wings, Vader or Death Stars but because they are very good movies! (Perhaps minus Ewoks).

I cared about the characters. I think the leads played their roles perfectly and showed tons of emotion. I wonder what movie you were watching. I don't know how anyone could watch this and not like Rey. Seems impossible to me.

I will state my point that I believe this movie needed 30-40 more minutes. I would've liked more but I don't think you were supposed to get more.

New Hope left you with tons of unanswered questions that get fleshed out later throughout the trilogy. This will be no different. This movie was supposed to be this way. Fit the structure of the other 6, similarities and all.

Lastly I disagree with you final statements. All those things helped make the movie special, as well as a good story. Like I said earlier, good story never hurts so why even say that, its implied and no one would argue that point. Just visually star wars was iconic, broke the mold.

Yeah, Kylo Ren was injured and messed up in the head b/c of the Han Solo thing, but the level of power they attributed to his character throughout the movie made it seem really dumb that he wouldn't be able to kill Finn and Rey with ease, despite the fact that the force was "awoken" within Rey. She has no experience with the force. What, because she got Skywalker blood and punted a few would be thieves and Finn with her stick she has the combat acumen to fuck with a feared galactic badass? Ren been fuckin with the dark side for a minute. He could have had two severed legs and only one arm and still be able to kill those two noobs. My 2 cents.

Great fun movie. I just wish JJ didn't go with the whole an even bigger death star plot..

Eh... it was OK. Some parts of it were good but I felt like it could have been a lot better. Like, some small things were very good, but the big things -- talking about the Force, the heart of Star Wars, those moments fell flat. There was a lot of nostalgia and some good scenes, but it just didn't come together in the way that either of the first two did. A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back were both better. I can see why Lucas wasn't totally satisfied with it --- it had a lot of good hollywood popcorn flick moments that the other movies didn't necessarily have, but I didn't feel like it captured what Star Wars is about in the way that it should have.

I mean, it was a good movie, don't get me wrong, but I can see where Lucas didn't find it to be what he wanted. If Lucas had this kind of direction for the small things + the big things he wanted to focus on and included, they would make the greatest movie ever and tell the story perfectly. This had all the little things the prequels were missing but it was missing some of the soul that they had. I just wish it would have had more depth to it, more about the Force. But it was good, it was worth watching, although some of the scenes didn't come together fully, IMO

And I agree that it lacked emotion and suspense, it was not comparable to how you felt watching either of the first two films or even the third was better in some ways.

It relied too much on the greatness of the previous movies. That's the only way it compared to them, by referencing them, it didn't have the soul they had. Although a couple moments were good, but it wasn't enough, they should have focused on that and and not the popcorn moments.

I haven't seen it yet, not expecting anything good..

Haven't seen it yet. I'll probably wait a couple years, til the hype dies down, and I can watch it without silly expectations.

Also, wrong subforum?

Daniel Craig's STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Cameo Revealed

Daniel-Craig-Star-Wars-The-Force-Awakens-Dragonlord.jpg

During an interview last summer, EW asked Daniel Craig about a certain rumor that had been ricocheting across the web (thanks to Simon Pegg’s loose lips) since May: that Craig delivers a cameo as a stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Not only did the star vehemently deny it at that time, he responded to EW's query with barely suppressed rage. “Why would I ever bother doing something like that?” Craig sputtered. “F—ing hell! Pffft. Play an extra in another movie.”

Starting last year, the Spectre production took place across various soundstages in the venerable studio facility, just yards away from where The Force Awakens was being concurrently filmed. So if Craig had wanted to make a cameo, it would have likely been as simple as cozying up to Star Wars director JJ Abrams, slipping out of his Tom Ford suit and donning the white plastic helmet.

According to multiple sources close to The Force Awakens who asked not to be identified because they were not authorized to speak publicly, that is precisely what happened.

Craig does make a cameo in Star Wars VII as a stormtrooper, turning up in one of the movie’s most memorably nostalgic scenes. “He did it for s—ts and grins,” says one of the people with knowledge of the actor’s performance.

For anyone who has not seen The Force Awakens, the below description of Craig’s cameo contains Spoilers. So stop reading now if you don’t want to know what happens.

At one point in the movie, Daisy Ridley’s character Rey has been captured, and makes her maiden attempt at a Jedi mind trick.

“You will remove these restraints and leave this cell with the door open,” Rey tells the stormtrooper played by Craig.

It is, of course, an implicit shout-out to Obi-Wan Kenobi’s “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for” scene in Star Wars IV: A New Hope. And the sequence prompted shouts of joyful recognition in the pre-release screening I attended earlier this week.

“I’ll tighten those restraints, scavenger scum,” Craig’s character responds, although few in the audience can be expected to register that it’s him. We only hear the actor’s clipped British diction and never see his face.

Watching it on Sunday, but with lowered expectations. I read James Berardirelli's review; I almost always agree with his reviews, and he calls it a mixed bag.

I have to say, making a woman the main character of the new trilogy really turns me off to the whole thing. It's like making a new Sex and the City movie with a male lead; women are allowed to have their movies, why aren't we men allowed to have ours?

Um... why is this is in the wr?

It was underwhelming (to say the least). I give it a 5 because i liked a lot of the elements (visuals, action, FX, new characters) amd i give JJ and co. points for skillfully splicing together elements from ANH and ESB into one film.

That being said, the story was still super derivative and I felt Rey's ascension was not earned at all.. she reminded me of Jesse Eisenberg in American Ultra, as if she had all this stuff in her and it would just come back to her in moments of danger/convenience. That's not a bad thing if it's so, but the story should address it. In general there were too many things left unanswered and unaddressed.

And- TBH, i wanted more of a proper sequel to ROTJ. The character arcs of Leia and Han did not feel organic to me. 30 years. where is the growth? progress?
The whole movie felt very much like a under new management re-launching/re-branding effort.

My initial ranking FWIW
ANH 4
ESB 5
ROTJ 6
ROTS 3
TFA 7
TPM 1
AOTC 2

lol, several things you say were not explained were in fact explained. Maybe watch it again before jumping to conclusions. Also disagree with lots of points.

I'm not a star wars nerd, so it's different for me. Nothing really suprising, kinda like the same thing. (That's it? That's how they beat them?? lol)

Love chewy and that circle droid, they were so cute.

Chewbacca: Mmmmhh hhamm rrgggr.
lol

(and I thought Han Solo deserve better than that weak sheit, dat was so corny, you could see it a mile away)

Never really seen Star Wars, but apparently their is a black guy in the movie, so I guess that makes it bad according to the TS.

Inb4 "That wasnt all he said."

Its not "that wasn't all he said"

He never said that at all

He didn't like Finn because the only reason the character exists at all is so the movie can have a black guy in a lead role. Just like Jar Jar if Finn was removed from the script altogether it would not effect the plot at all, if not make for a better movie. (the character isn't quite as useless as jar jar, but its close)

If they cast a white guy in Finn's place it wouldn't make the character any better.

The bad guy will never win a single fight in any of these new star wars movies.

You will probably have c3po knock him out cold in the next one.

How can you justify the baddest man in the galaxy being fucked up by a 20 year old girl who just picked up a light saber for the first time.
It would be like some drunk college freshmen walking into the MGM grand at UFC 200 and KOing jon jones.
How the fuck are they going to hype up future fights? The hero has already beaten the main bad guy @ his strongest and her weakest she's just gonna bag on this dude for three movies until he goes all vader in the last one and kills snoke or some shit thats exactly whats gonna happen.
