BB-8 and Rey alone garner this movie much higher rating than just a "1"

A '1" is laughable internet trolling.

My original post still stands.

Who cares if he rated it a 1 or not....

It's his review not yours........

Never understood why people get so butthurt over movie reviews

I think you giving it a 8.5 shows that you dont know much about movies anyways

Why this movie was solid. Wasn't perfect and I coud nit pic but there were a lot of incredible scenes that were pure STAR WARS.

I already stated my case above. This movie should have been longer IMO but it works and had the tone and feel of the originals.

and if you don't care about reviews why criticize mine. laughable at best

I thought it was decent. Extremely cliche, predictable plot, good acting, great effects. It seemed very similar to the original film.

One thing I forgot to mention, I really didn't care for the female alien who took Yoda's role in this movie. Can't remember her name. The none with the weird ass goggles. Useless character IMO

Again though, I can't stress enough how good Rey, Finn and BB8 were. Loved that trio.

Why cannot it be compared to the originals? The originals are not iconic because they were some of the first space movies (if that was the case a lot of shit from the era would also be iconic). A New Hope was a DAMN good movie. Regardless if you're a giga-nerd or not you will get goosebumps watching Luke destroy the Death Star the first time. That was not because it was the first time we saw something like that, it was because it was amazing cinematography.

Now compare that to the destruction of the New Death Star. If the originals destruction was a 10 then this cannot be above a 5. Everything was so poor.

There are other really poor aspects like the introduction of this new Death Star.IN the original the Death Star is hyped up as this new super weapon, it is so unbelievable it is mistaken for a moon. This new one is 50 times bigger, destroys solar systems by eating entire suns and it isnt even given a proper introduction. The resistance doesn't even seem phased by it! JJ just assumed we will be hyped by watching it blow up planets we dont care about. Storytelling doesn't work like that, we need the characters in the movie to be horrified so we can relate to and feel their emotions (such as awe inspiring fear).

There is none of that, and that is why this movie failed on a primal level. Really the script writers and JJ should have gone back to University and done a crash course in narrative. Imagine if no one had given a shit about the first (or even second) Death Star? How horrible would that have been.

I focus on the Death Star because it is easy to draw comparisons and explain to others why it is a poor piece of work. There are lots of other poor aspects to the movie. No one has responded to my criticism constructively yet.

As I said earlier, history will not remember this movie as a great one. There are no excuses for that with Disney's budget.

I loved it. Story was pretty obvious though. Also it seemed like a a re hash of a new hope.

Didn't I call that light saber shit months ago in that star wars hype thread.

Some evil bad ass with a decade of light saber dueling experience gets whipped by some random scrub who picked up there first lightsaber 30 minutes before the fight.
.

I AGREE, and Kylo Ren has got to be the most weak ass sith ever - After the movie I keep thinking Darth Maul would fuck those two up with out breaking a sweat.

8/10. I figured it was never going to live up to the original. I had fun, that little droid was cool. OVERALL, I liked the movie. Was cool to see people dressed up. I felt like I was watching A New Hope at times. Was really cool to see the old faces.

Because they are the originals. What don't you get about that concept....

They were iconic because like everyone who was around at the time says "nothing like that was ever seen before." and that was true, nothing like star wars existed before that. That's why theyre iconic. Because they were groundbreaking in every aspect. and of course being a good movie helps that. No one would disagree with that.

I said it already, what hurt the movie was it wasn't long enough.. I think enough characters were introduced it needed to be 30 minutes longer..

but it did what it was supposed to. Left you hanging with mountains of questions. AND the new cast was awesome. It made you care about these characters, especially Rey. She was the best part of the movie.

and if youre not curious about Snoke than I don't know what to tell you...

and I feel this movie is staying with the course of the episodes 1-6. I think the similarities fit perfectly.

Im curious kong

How would you rank force awakens compared to the other star wars movies

So good. Nostalgia up the wazoo. Droid and Rey both killed it. Fin was good especially in the middle but the star of this film is Rey by a mile.

"Everything has changed and nothing has changed."

That movie fits this quote perfectly.

It was pretty good, I liked the humor. Laughed out loud when I saw the "it's a trap" dude

I loved it, it exceeded my expectations. I have never been as hyped up for a movie before and no other movie has lived up to the hype like this did. I have to let it sit for a while, but right now I feel like this is the best of the 7. One of the best movie going experiences of my life.

I've seen a lot of people saying it's second best, you're the first to say it's better than The Empire Strikes Back. I find that really hard to believe, as amped as I am.

That's what I was debating in my head as I was driving home, 7 or 5, I had just re-watched 5 this morning. I'll re-watch 7 eventually. Maybe its just the release of all this excitement, but there's no question it was more enjoyable than the prequels and ROTJ

...and i see the same thing happening when the Phantom menace came out: people desperately want it to be good so badly that they convince themselves that they aren't disappointed, until years later when it's socially acceptable to talk negatively about star wars.

the movie is riddled with insane coincidences, bad acting, poor CGI (in places when it's not even needed)....and things that make you question the plot and motives of the characters. This, to me, is the prequels with Han and Leia sprinkled in for nostalgia.

below is a list of rants off the top of my head.

1) supreme leader Snokes hologram is too large and he looks like a cartoon golum from LOTR that has a long face instead of a round one. Duplicate copy.

2) rey steals (and flies) the Millenium Falcon... too easily, from some boring-design-cartoon creature that just happens to live in reys village lol?.... and Han finds them literally moments later (in outer space) too quicky and coincidentally. (this is a huge galaxy yes?) why wouldn't Han own the falcon anymore? not explained.

3) kylo rens sword looks dumb as f**k to me and nothing can ever change that. He is a force user that is so powerful he can stop blaster bolts in midair, then later in the movie he struggles to force-pull a lightsaber out of the snow a few feet away. kylo ren is a snotty kid that doesn't scare me. Every time he takes his helmet off his hair is perfectly combed, ... oh and people don't sweat in this universe.

4) Every character is a kid, like 18 yrs old. In Empire strikes back, Harrison Ford was almost 40 years old... Luke and Leia were full grown adults, people loved it. Now we get BB8, which is a little kid robot. ...if you can imagine a thing.

5) Skywalker is missing (not explained why) and Liea (looking for luke) discovers that some old guy in a village... on some remote planet... has a small missing peace of a map that r2d2 has (r2 is owned by liea now) BTW r2d2 has shut down and gone offline for years for some unexplained reason....(but then comes to life conveniently and at the perfect time at the end of the movie to complete the map.)

6) c3po has a red arm in the beginning (unexplained) and then has his gold arm back at the end of the movie. (again unexplained)

7) rey finds bb8 in a massive desert, being captured by a cartoon creature, literally right behind reys house. rey then just walks up and says "no" and just takes the robot. the cartoon creature just shrugs it's shoulders and trots off. What??

8) finn is a human jar jar binks and shouldn't even be in this movie. It should be poe dameron and thats it. but they have to push that interracial agenda don't they?.....you have no backstory of this character or why he does the things he does or his motives. He even speaks ebonics. not kidding.

9) maz kanata: complete cartoon fail. Everything about this character is wrong and my 10 year old boy could come up with something better in 10 minutes. the scene in the trailer when she hands the lightsaber to Princess Leia is not even in the movie. This character is disappointing beyond words. Boring. Why does she possess Luke's lightsaber just sitting in a harrypotter-esque unlocked wooden chest at the bottom of a CGI stairwell? Unexplained. Don't care at this point.

10) the creatures Han has in cargo bays are ridiculous cartoon blobs with tentacles. The blobs chase/eat the pirates (two groups of pirates when only one was needed who also show up literally 60 seconds after Han comically finds rey and the falcon.)....one blob grabs finn.... it holds him in its tentacles for 5 minutes and doesn't eat him for some reason. I guess the blobs read the script.

11)....i could go on and on and on.

12) the new death star (called: star killer, how original lol, I'm really surprised they didn't just call it "star death").. is 10 times the size of the old death star, and is literally the size of a planet, ...but yet finn and Han bump into rey in the halls of this planet as they are trying to rescue her. The coincidences in this movie are too crushing to ignore.

13) captain phasma is only in the movie for maybe 30 seconds and is not even needed. Does no action or shoots no blaster. does nothing, and I'm not even sure why she is in this movie. Flashy-filler-distraction. If you are expecting an updated badass Boba Fett? (which she should be)... let me relieve you of this illusion.

14) Rey only knows about the Jedi as fables, but yet in a single day without one speck of training she can use Jedi mind tricks, use force-pull, and use a lightsaber as prolific as Vader himself. Even Luke had to have several training sessions with Yoda.

15) and of course the most stupid scene of all, at one point stormtroopers are attacking and Finn all of a sudden has lightsaber skills and fights a stormtrooper that has a anti-lightsaber baton for some reason (remember no one has seen a lightsaber in 30 years)... why would the Stormtrooper have such a weapon? not explained.

.... I can literally list 15 more examples but this thread can only be so long. I was planning on returning to the theater today to watch episode 7 again but I have no desire to ever see it again... until maybe it comes out on torrent. I've watched Empire Strikes Back 30 times in my life and will probably watch it again 30 more.
See the diff?

I'm sad...but w/e. Hollywood isn't capable of making good movies anymore.

This movie has failed and is not good.

A New Hope could have been adapted to medieval times and still been a hit. In fact much of its story arch is borrowed from medieval mythos. The Hobbit movies didn't suck because Lord of the Rings had been done before, they sucked because they are bad movies.

If they really wanted to ripoff the Death Star then thats fine. But if you are going to then atleast make it decent. You could copy the original even and still give people goose bumps. Did they do that? No. This was a mess from both a story telling and cinematography perspective.

This movie lacked emotion and suspense. It doesn't have to be set in an original universe to do that. This is why no one can address my critical comparison of both Death Stars. I even stated that the duel with Maul in the Phantom Menace is better than anything in this new movie. The Phantom Menace is shit but even that at least had a decent and iconic scene. If George Lucas could get lucky with an iconic scene in 1999 whey cannot Disney make an iconic Starwars today?

If you're going to write a sequel to the Odyssey or Return of the King then you better do a damn good job. If you have a mediocre performance then you deserve the criticism. Just 'okay' really isnt good enough, especially when the whole hype around this movie consisted of bringing back what made the originals special. You know why they were special? Not because of X wings, Vader or Death Stars but because they are very good movies! (Perhaps minus Ewoks).

My complaints about the movie are that it was too rushed. 20 min longer would have been nice.

Secondly what supereem said, it lacked suspense. Other than that, great. I didn't have problem with basically rehashing the original story.

Hell ..Creed did that and its my favourite movie of the year.

I enjoyed it.
A shame one of the scriptwriters also works on bella and the bulldogs.
