Star Wars Megathread

What is it people love so much about Thrawn?
He's not some one dimensional bad guy. He's basically the Sun Tzu of the Empire. He's the only non-human the Emperor entrusted in the "Grand Admiral" role.

One cool fact is that he was the first (I believe) to discover/employ a species that nullifies force abilities.

His gimmick imo. He thinks that every sentient species has a tactical limitation that can be used against them if you study their art.

It’s a really cool feature for a SW villain

So he will give these speeches about the aesthetic choices of some famous alien painter in the middle of a battle, and then say something along the lines of “of course, as good as alien Picasso was, his species can’t see the colour orange” and then suddenly the entire enemy fleet has exploded in the background behind him and all the imperials are clapping. He will give a little bow and promote someone on the bridge who he will single out as having done a good job, then he heads to the next mission.

I think your misunderstanding me

All we have really seen from this High Republic stuff is concept art etc.

Yes it's diverse....but let's wait and see if it's virtue signalling or decent characters.

The sequal trilogy wrecked of it...but they want other people to feel like I did whe j first saw Luke (...well even as a kid I liked vader more but you get the picture)...and im for that.

The fact they went above and beyond in the diversification of characters is the very personification of identity politics. You are right, Kathleen Kennedy wants to bring in new fans, but she has an agenda to remake the fan base in her image though. The sequel trilogy proved that.

Apparently she’s forgotten that it’s the old fan base that are the gainfully employed parents funding these new ADHD short attention span kids she’s looking towards.

I have a gay 16 year old teen who is one of KK’s demographics. Even at this young age my kid smells the pandering. To the point she’s actually been turned off to the franchise. She loves some baby Yoda, Thicc Gina, and Ahsoka. She absolutely hates the sequel trilogy.

The difference between pandering and preaching gets more and more narrow every day, too.

In a totally unconnected note:

Hey @Peteyandjia I gotchu, more Burr talking Mando stuff

I haven't read the Zahn novels all the way through, but I have to imagine Thrawn represents the only "positive" progress of the franchise since the the Battle of Endor. He was created in a dearth before the Prequels, which nerfed the mythology. So his cachet exists one foot in one foot out as Schroedinger's Potential for the Big Bad because he is grandfathered in as part of the "neo-classic Star Wars."

Dude, as a dad of a gay teen, I couldn’t be more proud that she sees through the bullshit the media puts out. How a lot of it is hollow and for the sake of numbers and money. I’m sure my views factor a little bit in her decisions, but for the most part I give her free reign to make her own opinions on support for Social Justice issues.

She likes what she likes, and the sequel trilogy ain’t it. Not one single character.

Yeah, and like, everyone says Star Wars is for teenage boys but as a kid my mom really liked Star Wars. We watched the movies together all the time. She just loves movies in general and sees everything, reads any and all “bestselling” books that come out, just how she is.

Didn’t enjoy the sequels. I asked her who her favourite character was in the last Jedi and she said “R2 and all the rest were shite”
lol

I guess she couldn’t accept a “good guy” bitchy blue haired admiral who gave vague orders that didn’t make any sense, just like me! I wonder where I got that from

The whole Shadows of the Empire story was awesome. Not just Thrawn. If it was done right if they had made a movie about it,it was as good a story as anything else.

Talon Karrde,Mara Jade, and the Noghri were all awesome fuckin characters.

Dash Rendar was a can,but somehow he became the sole focus of the video game based on the books

What is it people love so much about Thrawn?

Canon & Legends-
Genius who rose to power despite his alien blood to become one of the most feared and respected leaders and military minds in SW lore...fucked with force users, including Vader, all with no Force ability at all.

Legends - fortified the Unknown Region with little support to defend the Galaxy against extragalactic threats. Returned 5 years after Endor when the Empire was at 1/4 of their strength, turned shit around, brought the Republic to it's knees before his untimely death. Decades later, the possibility of his survival scared the shit out the NR and united the last of the die hard Imperial loyalist for one more push against the NR.

Roll Sun Tzu, Sherlock Holmes, Rommel, Alexander the Great and Napoleon into a Star Wars villain....

GOAT

Shadows of the Empire was Xizor vs Vader with Leia in the mix looking for Han. Dash Rendar was in this one. Takes place between ESB and RotJ

Heir to the Empire was Thrawn, Karrde, Jade, Pellaeon 5 years after Endor.

The comic was SO WELL DONE

The art style was one of my fav depictions.

I'm a novel guy, so I liked that better, but still: Thrawn Trilogy is the best SW since Return of the Jedi.

I got the comic first and then read the novel. I see myself returning to both pretty soon.

'83 LukeGOAT had reignited the flames

Oh, I know all about him. I'm just not sure I understand why people want to see him so badly, he's an INCREDIBLY difficult character to present in this format.

It seems he's going to be in Ahsoka's show. Hopefully the writing will be strong.

As said earlier, he can be F&Fs "Thanos", the real big bad across several series....build him early with little across several platforms, so when he comes in wrecking shit in the climax of the major "universe" arc he's already legitimized (unlike Snoke...)
