Star Wars Megathread

Oh, shit, the SW thread is heeeeeeeeere.

Keiran Gillens run of Darth Vader for Marvel comics is some of the best Star Wars shit you've ever seen. READ IT!

Soules newer run is also good, but Gillens is epic.

Since Star wars has risen back to GOAT status and is the sole focus of all life again, how old are you,and what are your first memories of this illustrious trilogy, and well, those other things they did.

I'm 41. Arguably my earliest movie memories are star wars. I remember it being such a big deal that we were taping on TV with our super new invention, the VCR. Now we had Star Wars with commercial breaks! I watched that shit endlessly.

At one point we ended up getting a copies of the entire series from a friend who did the whole doubLe VCR recording so you had a legit recording that was unedited. But for some bizzare reason the recording flubbed during RotJ so we had this random cut of Chuck Norris is Missing in Action spliced into the jabbas barge scene.

I must have watched the original 100 times, Juicy Fruit commercials and all.

This is going to end well I'm sure.

For all the hype The Mandalorian got, I thought it was bang average, tbh.

I had all kinds of problems with this show, but I accepted the format and the fact it was a kid's show.

My expectations almost from the start have been really low, but there have been moments I have really, really enjoyed.

Absent the Baby Yoda storyline I am at the same level of interest I've been since the start, I expect nothing and hope for the occasional pleasant surprise.

If nothing else it feels like proper Star Wars.

I'm not a fan of the prequel trilogy but every one of those movies had scenes I really enjoyed. I never walked out saying "this bullshit isn't Star Wars."

I really enjoyed Force Awakens and Rogue One, even more so than the prequel trilogy. Sure, they had problems, but I thought they were really good.

I saw Last Jedi and all I could think was "this bullshit isn't Star Wars." In attempting to subvert my expectations they managed to subvert my fandom into something else. I'm normally very forgiving when a director pushes the envelope and tries something new, but I felt Last Jedi was a catastrophic failure and I didn't enjoy a single thing they tried. A movie that's part of the core Star Wars saga shouldn't be an arthouse experiment.

I didn't even bother watching Rise of Skywalker until a week or so ago and I didn't make it to the end.

ahh they arent worth that much individually. If you saved all of them and sold them together, thats where the real money seems to be at. I looked at how much that Jabba's band thing would sell for and its only $200 bucks. I had ALOT of shit from the 90s tho. If i had saved all that,I think i could have fetched a pretty penny for the lot.
I have an original boba, the one you had to send proof of purchases in to get, it’s worth a couple grand.

it’s here somewhere my kid plays with it.

he loves all my old Star Wars toys. When he got into star. Wars he was in heaven. We went into the attic and got my old Star Wars toys down I still had.
He was in heaven instantly haveing tons of Star Wars stuff. And going to ghrandma’s. To see what was at her house too.

Ive treid so many times to get into Mandalorian, but for a flagship live action series Disney seems to have forgotten the most important thing. A FUCKING BUDGET. The special effects are on the same level of half-assed fan film crap you find on youtube, the sets look like they are spraypainted plywood half the time, and the costumes aside from the main guy himself (I cant be assed to remember his name) and the 'I have spoken' alien from season 1 have been just awful (Did Fett use a roller brush on his armor? Because it looks like it.). And the acting, holy fucking shit. This isn't good acting, this is daytime soap opera levels of 'Im here for the acting credits and paycheck' acting. It's like they all took acting lessons from Nic Cage and then dumbed it down a notch.

Just.... what in the name of the Emperors tightly clenched butthole is Disney thinking with this show? I get it, it's a kids show to sell toys, but they could have at least sunk some real time and effort into this. There are actual fan films that have more effort and respect for the universe put into them then this, it's a god damn travesty.

Disney+ should have a new Star Wars show every calendar quarter. I can't be waiting a whole year for something new.

I saw posts today saying the Disney Store Toybox figures break easily when dropped on the floor. Something about the shit quality plastic. I guess I won't be trying to find Mando w/Grogu.

Didn't feel like buying the Walmart exclusive Retro Boba Fett re-release? I never saw it in store or online.

What I really want is a modern Boba Fett 6" or 3.75" done in the old Kenner colors.

I had this guy growing up...I would say I wish I still did, but toys back then were made for playing with...
Several hundreds of dollars in package now....

You inspired me to dig out my dusty box of geek treasures. I found a box of Star Wars Dixie Cups and a roll of Star Wars wallpaper, both worth nothing I'm sure but I've had them since the seventies.

I remember being like 5 and my parents rented a VCR and The Terminator. I was probably 5. They let me stay up and watch it. I was terrified for months. Couldn't sleep.

I miss the 80's.

I remember those Dixie Cups, and that wall paper is great.

I watched the finale of Mandolorian, and while I didn't get emotional I did appreciate the epicness of the moment.

I didn't get emotional... until now.

Mark Hamill tweeted this, along with a link to this video.

Everyone should watch this -

I did see Star Wars Theory's reaction when it went viral, but I thought it was just a one-off because he's such a super fan. Now I know its not a one-off, Star Wars fans globally had that reaction to the true Luke Skywalker (Not Jake Skywalker in Ep8 TLJ) making his return to screens for the first time in nearly 38 years.

That's what we wanted for the Star Wars sequel trilogy, and we were deprived of.

Now I 100% understand why the backlash to Pablo Hidalgo's "Emotions are not for sharing" tweet to Star Wars Theory. It was trending for HOURS on twitter because it was repesentitive of the arrogance and condescention the LucasFilm story group, Kathleen Kennedy, Rian Johnson, and JJ Abrams (To an extent) have for the fans.

They couldn't come close to creating anything that causes that kind of emotion within the fans.

Bob Igur and Disney bought LucasFilm just viewing it as a means to make money, and put it in the hands of people that didn't care to understand it or the responsibility they have to it.

This reaction to Luke in The Mandolorian finale... tweeted out by Luke Hammill himself... is a beacon to the LucasFilm brass saying "THIS IS WHAT WE WANT. GIVE US MORE."

Oh, for sure. We had an unedited recording of Terrminator, too. When I was a wee lad I would drive my parents crazy because I would wake up in the middles of the night and put on movies I wasnt supposed to watch, Terminator among them. I remember being so fascinated at the sight of actual boobs.

I am 54. I was 11 years old when A New Hope was released and I have been a fan ever since. One detail that i remember that i pressed me at the time was the state of some of the ships. Prior to SW a lot of scifi movies had spaceships as these shiny new things, always clean. And boom, SW. rings along ships with heat stains, oil etc. Nice detail.
