Movies Star Wars: Episode X - A New Beginning

Give me a fucking Rogue/Wraith Squadron type of series focused on the "War" in "Star Wars"

Doesn't have to be exactly like above but same idea, diverse group of human and alien commando fighter pilots doing secret missions on the ground and in space. Lots of action, good character development and relations and the occasional insanity...

The groundwork is already there, just fucking do it...

Can we just fuck off with anything Skywalker related please?

Hell, I'm pretty tired of Jedi and Sith if I'm being honest.
Needs Starkiller

So The Force Awakens basically ripped off A New Hope. I expect this "A New Beginning" to rip off The Phantom Menace, but replace the lightsaber fight scene with a scene on alien pronouns
The Phantom Menace had a scene on alien trade agreements.... So .. Who cares

I'm looking forward to this new movie. This previous trilogy was excellent. Arguably the greatest trilogy of films in the history of cinema.

No just no. Need to scratch ST from cannon and start over 5 years after ROTJ re cast Luke , Han an Leia. This would be trash an a embarrassment. Make Thrawn the big bad for first 2 then I tro in an old school sith like Plageius for 3rd..
They need to just abandon this era and go back to the era of the Old Republic.

It has to be humiliating for Disney that EA-- of all publishers-- put out infinitely better content in their collection of short films for the video games.

Biggest mistake Dianey made and they made many was ........ Not re-casting. Had they re casted they could of made the ST that was meant to be made - starting a few years after ROTJ and still with the big 3 as its core - then given the original actors small roles throughout as cameos. They were determined to use the original cast and we got the shit show we got. They didn't understand it was never about the actors it was the characters that mattered.

As of now - I agree to go the old Rwpublic route to start fresh and see. But I still think a Luke trilogy would still be a smash hit but will they ever make it . Its like a ball teed up but Disney just won't swing.

This is good news for Daisy Ridley because she really needs this 😁

Rey was not a bad character apart from being a Mary Sue. No idea why they felt the need to make her amazing at everything instead of going through adversity.
Yeah, its easy to forget how well received Force Awakens was, and even Rey was pretty popular in cosplay and whatnot. The anticipation for Last jedi was at an absolute fever pitch. And then Rian Johnson did whatever the fuck it was that he did. If you really analyze just how much impact the negative reception had, you could make the argument it was literally a billion dollar blunder. Theres assumptions involved, sure. But jeebus. Again, easy to forget that they were literally planning an entire Rian Johnson trilogy and people were excited about it. Moods changed super quick.

It just isnt gonna work without some serious canon changes. The Skywalker legacy has basically been trashed. Luke defeats the emperor and tries to start a new school, then has a bad dream and has to run away to an island and let the most evil force in the galaxy gain power. And then he dies from using the force too hard.

Its absolutely mind boggling how badly they failed the follow up to a legit smash hit that had people pumped for Star Wars again.

Like I said most the fault of the ST being so bad an hate by fans is they just had to incorporate the old cast into same roles. They severely limited themselves with what they could do. Instead of having g a full powered Luke ST the FANS WANTED we got a garbage mash up.

Even now they could make a Luke trilogy and it would do crazy numbers but Disney won't do it they are petrified to re cast those roles.

No, recasting Luke, Leia, and Han would have been stupid.

Why ? Re Casting they could have had the ST everyone wanted . By not they crested a shit show and ruined it - that was was stupid.

Yeah there would have been people bitching it wasnt the same. But it would have been better thsman saying it was a god awful mess.

Because then it just becomes another shitty "reboot' universe. We are so oversaturated with those. They're garbage and uninteresting. The only live-action filmmakers who did anything good with that were the creatives behind Spider-Man: Far from Home, but it only worked because they elevated the otherwise horrendous multiverse concept built into Marvel.

That's possibly the only decision they made that was smart. Luke, Leia, and Han have an identity as concrete and finite as the actors who played them. Their legends are one and the same.

I suspect that's one of the major reasons Solo flopped apart from how bad the mainline movies had become. Despite that it was a prequel...nobody wanted to see anyone besides Harrison Ford as Han. He couldn't play a young Han, so they shouldn't have made it.

One Luke. One Leia. One Han. It's perfect.

They already tried it with the Han Solo movie and look how that turned out

I actually agree with both of your takes on what they should do.

The Old Republic and New Republic eras are untouched goldmines of content.

The Old Republic having its own content begging to be adapted (KOTOR games, TOR MMO, and Darth Bane Trilogy).

As well as the post Ep6-era with several novels (of 'diverse' quality) can be picked over for the great ideas that can be adapted into Movies & Streaming Shows...but not live-action.
Don't know either of you have checked out the recent 'Tales Of The Jedi' & 'Tales Of The Sith' series in Disney+ but they really display the evolution of CGI animation that is actually worthy of being within movies released in theaters.

The 'Legends' books, the best of them, could be adapted with some of the great ideas of the 'not-great' books that weren't executed well but had a lot of potential.

A series of shows showing the Solo kids being trained under Luke? That's the Jedi Academy series.

A movie showing the developing romance between Han & Leia with a political storyline in the background? That's...

Or a giant intergalactic war with an invading species determined to wipe out the entire galaxy, with body horror, grim-dark adult themes, with no major character safe, with a death toll across the galaxy only estimated to be in the hundreds of trillions?
That's the New Jedi Order - 19 books.

From what I've heard of this book series from those who have read it, they describe it as 'peak Star Wars.'
Better than the movies.
No plot-armor.
Major battles lost.
Entire major planets destroyed.

I'm about to start reading the first book in the next few weeks.

I want to see tbe same thing most others do - full power Luke. What we should have gotten in the ST. They could atill do that series but they would need to re cast the big 3 to do it and they won't. I think it a smash hit if anyone competent writes/directs it. Almost a cant miss even if people whine about "its not the same without Hamill , Fisher, Ford) .

The old republic has an endless treasure trouve of options. Disney just decides to make the worst ones. Either do the Luke story or abandon tbe Skywalker story and go Old Republic.

Everyone agrees about Luke.
He's the only one that could get away with that 'Force Heal' bullshit that Mary Sue Rey could do... after being trained by Leia (who never was a Jedi in Disney Canon.)

One of the reasons why I propose the New Republic era is because there's many voice-actors that could emulate the voices of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford.
Here's Troy Baker doing a solid 9/10 performance of Indiana Jones.

It's not just that Disney 'chose the worst ones' they completely butchered them to the extent it seems like sabotage.

You seen the Solo movie, right?
I haven't, because I knew it was going to be ass in comparison to the 'Han Solo Prequel Trilogy.'

Spoiler - The 3rd book ends with Han sitting in a cantina in Mos Eisley worried about the bounty on his head.
