I still don't get why her name is Michael. That's a try hard move on their part.

You do it because the script and story excels with it.

You DON'T do it because you have an agenda.

Not this;

In both those cases I found that there was nothing that was drastically changed to make the characters female.

In both those movies the characters could've been played by men with pretty much the same script and you would've gotten the same result, both good and bad.

As for star trek? We've already had this;

And she's probably the worst most uninteresting captain in Star Trek. And that's saying something because Sisko was bad. Not to mention she was catty with the actress who played seven of nine off set.

OK, now I see that your problem is that you have bad taste. Never mind. Carry on.

If they force a mary sue, I'm gonna shit on it.

Don't like that I shit on it, don't respond to my posts.

If you are going to assume the character is going to be a Mary Sue for no other reason than her gender, then that's is bullshit and I am entirely free to call you on it.

I might give ya Sisko. Because that guy can't act...but are you honestly rating Janeway above Piccard or Kirk or Archer?

Sisko was awesome.

As for the ranking of the Star Trek captains, in my opinion it goes like this:

Picard >>> Sisko >>> Kirk >>> Janeway >>> Archer

Janeway may have been a mediocre captain, but Archer was a hack.

You're saying Avery Brooks can't act? Wtf? I know he was a bit over the top in the first season. But my guess is that was how he was directed more than anything. He was great in later episodes. And he was great in American History X.

Sisko couldn't act. When he tried to sound upset or excited he just came across as out of breath and over reacting. And judging from his interview in Shatner's "the Captains" I'm pretty sure he's insane. Or he was just being as disrespectful to Shatner as he could without it being obvious.

Archer was pretty damn great who at least had a semblance of realistic interaction between T'pol and Trip. Janeway was cringe worthy whenever she tried to butch up with an authoritative tone.

It just didn't work. And I'm glad the captain is male this time around as I'm not ready to try that experiment again.

Nope, he sucks.

1:45 in and he starts in with his "I'm out of breath" shit again. (the show is filled with scenes like this) He's no Patrick Stewart or campy like Shatner. He's just average at best.

I'd say both doctors in the Enterprise and Voyager had the most talented actors on each show however.

I mean, I get that.. still very uncommon for a female though.. and you know they went out of their way to name her Michael. I don't understand why.

Like @JDragon said, Bryan Fuller has a thing for giving the lead female character in his shows masculine names:
  • Dead Like Me >>>> Georgia "George" Lass
  • Wonderfalls >>>> Jaye Tyler
  • Pushing Daisies >>>> Charlotte "Chuck" Charles
You might as well go ask Tarantino about all the trunk shots.

Well, fucking Enterprise blew. Seriously, I couldn't get through it because it was so bad. Brooks is a fine actor. He may not be the best. But Jesus Christ he's better than Scott Backula, at least in the captain's role.

I want to start reading some Star Trek books.
I heard there are some great big stories that span multiple books, and I remember people here giving some
recomendations a while ago. I think most of them are not canon ?

Is there a good book series to start with ?

Just read the very first page of this thread :)

The main problem with Enterprise is that they didn't start doing what people wanted to see until it was too late. If they had started doing what they did in Season 4 from the beginning, the show would've lasted all the way to the end of the Romulan War.

I didn't want them to start doing anything other than recast and rewrite the role of the captain. The character was terrible, and Scott Backula, who is a solid actor despite his flaws, just wasn't right for that.

Meh.

EDIT: Huh, for some reason they set it to private. Well, that was the trailer. I didn't care much for it. The designs looks wonky and the part about "my species has been biologically tailored for a single purpose: to sense the coming of death" bit was reallllllly dumb.

EDIT2: Looks like they turned it back on.

Here we go

More details
Season 1 extended to 15 episodes, ‘Talking Trek’ Announced
Besides the trailer, the other big news item from the upfronts is that CBS has extended the first season episode order from the originally planned 13 to 15. In addition CBS announced a new aftershow called Talking Trek. There are other details available at this time on that show, such as who will host.

Still set for fall
As for a premiere date all that was said is what we have already heard. The show will premiere in the fall with the pilot airing on the CBS Television Network and subsequent episodes will be available on the CBS All Access streaming service. However, we still don’t have a specific date.

is she the show's main protagonist?

is this another "libtard we need more woman hero's" show?
I'm starting to see a pattern here. Uses the word libtard (super original btw), doesn't like any of the captains that aren't white males, doesn't like the fact that Ghostbusters was remade with a female cast. Ok. We get it.

So it looks like the theory about this involving some ancient Klingons has been proven correct. The Klingon Sarcophagus ship from the early art designs was there. Big question is whether the more traditional Klingons will be in, or if they totally just changed the look.

We Only see the Star Ship Shen Zhou, but no Discovery or Captain Lorca. So either the Discovery will be the secret federation ship, that they are calling for help, or it will be the Federation/Klingon hybrid ship, to confront these ancient Klingons.

Other notes: The blue guy, could possibly be a re-imagined Bolian. \

Cmdr :Burkham Appears to have been raised on Vulcan or is maybe part Vulcan, which is why Sarek has so much interest in here
