I can't believe how the Breen are essentially a clone of Leia's bounty hunter costume.

A lot of people have asked about various trek books, and how they fit into the series, so I found this cool guide. It shows where various books fit in, or what crews they feature.

I still think Destiny is your best bet for a starting point for post Nemesis TNG, DS9, VOY, but there are many great new series that take place in all eras of trek.

I definitely get the most pleasure out of reading TNG stories. I haven't started Destiny yet, but I will as soon as I'm done with DS9.

Yeah TNG is my favorite, but Destiny brought me back into Trek Lit, and made me start following some of the other series. There are so many books, its a little overwhelming, so I started with the main big relaunch sagas. Destiny, Typhon pact, and the Fall. They have new one currently going called the Prey, but haven't gotten to them yet.

Discovery starts shooting on January 26th, in Toronto.

So Sarek's supposedly in this and they announced another guy's casting.

Hmm. How many already known characters are going to be in the show now? Thought this was supposed to be something new*?

*yet still a damn prequel. Why whoever insists on playing connect the dots beats me.

Just read that the launch of the show is delayed/"flexible".

So after all the delays, the CBS All Access paywall, the man producer/developer guy (can't remember his name) bouncing, it being a prequel, the established characters possibly on the show.. Are they still planning on using that tacky looking ship and having a 'real' religion follower on board? After all the mishaps and whatnot what are the odds CBS further alienates the fans with SJW level agendas and pandering? Hell, what are the odds the whole thing gets scrapped?

James Frain Cast as Spock's Father in STAR TREK: DISCOVERY; Premiere Delayed Again

CBS All Access' Star Trek: Discovery has been delayed again as the series continues casting.

The revival for the streaming platform has cast James Frain as Spock's father, producer CBS Television Studios announced Wednesday, as sources confirm that the show's planned May debut has been pushed.

"Production on Star Trek: Discovery begins next week. We love the cast, the scripts and are excited about the world the producers have created," reps for CBS All Access said in a statement. "This is an ambitious project; we will be flexible on a launch date if it's best for the show. We've said from the beginning it's more important to do this right than to do it fast. There is also added flexibility presenting on CBS All Access, which isn't beholden to seasonal premieres or launch windows."

Frain will play Sarek, the famed father of Spock who was first introduced in the original Star Trek and who has made several appearances throughout the franchise's many incarnations over the past five decades.

The CBS All Access show features the franchise's Enterprise, now known as the U.S.S. Discovery. The drama will introduce new characters seeking new worlds and civilizations while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966.

The Walking Dead star Sonequa Martin-Green — who will continue to portray fierce survivor Sasha on the AMC zombie drama as a series regular — will play a lieutenant commander on Discovery. It's also worth noting that Walking Dead has already wrapped production on its current seventh season and, should Martin-Green's Sasha survive, wouldn't return to production until summer 2017.

Michelle Yeoh, Anthony Rapp and Doug Jones were announced as the 13-episode series' first castmembers. Chris Obi, Shazad Latif and Mary Chieffo were also cast as Klingons.

Star Trek: Discovery was originally scheduled to debut in January and was pushed back to May, with The Good Wife spinoff The Good Fight now set to be the first scripted offering on CBS All Access, the network's VOD platform. This marks the second delay for the series, which saw former showrunner Bryan Fuller step down to focus on his Starz drama American Gods.

Star Trek: Discovery hails from Alex Kurtzman, Fuller and Roddenberry Entertainment. Executive producers include Heather Kadin, Gretchen J. Berg, Aaron Harberts, Akiva Goldsman, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth. Berg and Harberts took over as showrunners for Fuller, who recently noted that he will not be involved at all but has left his outline for the series as well as multiple scripts for producers.

'Star Trek: Discovery' Delayed Again as Spock's Father Is Cast

I am way more pissed at the Sarek news than at the delay. I already figured and said so repeatedly that there is no way you bring a series out in May if you did not already start filiming in, say, October or November. No chance for a series with such a need in post production.

Pushing the series until they think it's good enough is actually a good thing.

But this Sarek thing, I don't know. This is why there always is good reason to be skeptical about prequels.

They're basically the result of a costume designer or creator that didn't feel like establishing a set appearance. They're just bad guys, I guess.

I don't know if it's a fact, but I heard that the Breen are actually a collective of different species that all wear that same armor so one can't tell their true appearance.

Yeah the Breen confederacy is a collection of worlds, who value privacy above all. The suits were designed to hide the identity of the person wearing it. They are all different size and have different environmental requirements, but all wear the exact same suit. They never got into too much in DS9, but the Breen are featured quite a bit in the newer book series like Thypon pact and the fall.

I'd rather they get it right, than push it out. They need to give the TWD time to kill off the new star of the series.

I'm guessing Sarek will be involved in negotiations with the Klingons or something. Im thinking Discovery will be a joint Federation-Klingon ship, but you will have other federation and Klingons ships close by.
