From my own experience (camping gear, mostly) REI is pricey stuff... the flashy, "designer" crap of the outdoorsy world. I couldn't begin to tell you if their climbing, biking or kayaking stuff is worth the money or not, but for basic "I'll be sleeping in the great wide open" kind of stuff, you're probably better off going to your local military surplus store.

enright:

How much are you going to squat on Sunday?

I don't know. It depends on my second attempt, which will be a 2 pound PR. My third will be something between 525-535 pounds depending on how heavy the weight feels.

I guessing you will try put up 5 pounds more on Monday.

Military surplus stores don't have as many young cashiers to stalk.

Not quite that soon. I'm going to order some smaller knee sleeves first. Also, I'm not sure that I'd be able to hit 540 at the moment (depends on the knee sleeves). 526 might be doable.

Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay climbede Everest in 1953. This should give you a good idea of what you "need" when doing outdoors stuff.

I don't think I'm getting a lot out of the Inzers. I guess at the most a good knee sleeve might get 10 at the most. I would definitely get at least one size smaller.

I think you are good for 525 now. Even if your not, you will pull 630-650 and squat 540+ by December. I would like to break 550 on the DL::icon_cry2 Christ, I have a lot of work to do.

You know, I was shocked as hell to find that Hillary was still alive... he came out with a public statement, what, last year (?) when some climbers on Everest abandoned one of their group to push on to the top.

Come to think of it, my tent is a Hillary, and might have actually been purchased at an REI. Hmm.

Anyhow, my point was that REI camping gear has what you actually need, and a whole lot of stuff that you don't. If you want a "camp" espresso maker (no joke), go to REI. If you just need a tent, mummy bag and camp mattress, you'll probably get more for your dime somewhere else.

Oh, and if I ever climb Everest, I'd like my odds of survival to be a bit higher than Hillary's were. :)

I think you could get much more than 10lbs out of knee sleeves, but they would have to be tight enough that you'd want to take them off between squat attempts. In training, I like the Rehbands, but I am going to order some way-too-small knee wrap sleeves for 1RM attempts and powerlifting meets.

540/330/630 sounds good to me. :D

Interesting ... I may have to have someone else tighten the shit out of them. I should have bought a smaller pair...:icon_twis

The USAPL is meeting tonight to discuss what raw means. I sure that will go well.

Are you going to show up? It might be interesting to see an internet-style debate in the real world.

Hi guys! What happened to the other pub? I was beginning to like the feel of it.

I have the last post in the top three threads in S&P. Somebody get over there to disguise my post-whoring ways, please.
