What if he was successful in spite of his training, rather than because of it?

Have you notice any carry over from doing zercher squats to boxing or muay thai?
haha, i dont know. i dont box or grapple anymore.

i feel like it reminds me of a clinch, though. the arms are engaged, and it drags me forward, uses more lower back. kind of a front squat mixed with a slow clean.

And i know Karelin did them.

Fair point

Seems like it's not a terrible idea though

Doing that many squats will build some insane leg endurance strength. Considering how fighters gas and then become stuck in the mud, having such crazy endurance would certainly offset that. Much more so than being able to squat 600 for a few reps imo

I can rep 135 for a a hilarious amount of reps not because of endurance but because it's light as fuck. I'm not saying strength train for endurance, but there's probably better ways to condition yourself other than a million reps.

You probably think you can, but when have you actually tried? You wouldnt have tried, it will be just something you think

I'd bet cant do 100 strict ATG squats with 135 on the bar, going down SLOW and controlled, say like a 5 second negative and explode up

But could he do 20 rep squats with 135 if he had to do 60 second eccentric and concentric phases for each rep....

A 5 second negative on a large range movement like the squat isnt excessive what so ever, its just a nice controlled descent but in doing so will make it a true test and one i dont believe he would pass

100 fast reps is one thing, which I think he may manage but maybe not, he would struggle like hell and be sat down for a long time afterward if he did make it

He also stated a hilarious amount of reps, i dont see 100 as some crazy amount, id say 250 upwards is so but i settled on the lowest possible number you could use for "hilarious amount of reps", but would have to be done with correct form

For me a hilarious amount of reps is at least 1000. I do not know where you come up with your random metrics(or assign numerical representations for vague common speech)...

I do it the same way you just did it

If someone told me they could do 100 squats with 135 I would be thinking thats some crazy number of reps. The Great Gama for example was doing 4000 bodyweight each day. That is crazy, 100 with 135 is not

So me choosing 100 reps was to make it "easy" for him

Hopefully he will try and even better video it

Im confident he wont complete 100

I will even throw a small amount of money in too, to make it fun

I literally just squatted 315 for 26. Lmao. Sure I'll go down slow with 135 for no God damned reason. That's the part people have problems with the going down, not the standing up lol.

Anyways, I have actual goals. So no. I'm not doing something silly like that.

Going down slowly makes it a true rep, anyone can fall down with the weight on their back, but to control it is an entirely different thing

You made it sound like you could do it easily before "I can do a hilarious amount of reps with 135"

In what part of mixed martial arts would a five second eccentric be beneficial?

Super high reps of anything sounds like working hard for the sake of working hard instead of working smart. Strength and conditioning training should be done at the minimum effect dose to achieve your goals as well as safe as possible so you can concentrate your efforts in your skilled training. Not only would 4000 bodyweight squats everyday take for-fucking-ever and take precious time away from your skilled training(you know, the shit that actually makes you a better fighter) but it also sounds like a recipe for developing an overuse injury.
